Alvin climbed back down and found a mask to cover his nose, in addition to a short broom and brush. He endured another torturous climb up and returned to his initial position.

The space was so compacted that he needed to crawl on his belly like some rat.

Rat! The moment he thought about it, he shuddered at the thought of a little rodent jumping on him. He shook his head, suppressing the disgust he felt, and used the broom to carefully sweep dirty matters aside, while also removing cobwebs

On hearing ‘A visitor’, the sentinel's head snapped up. This place was far away from normal civilization, and they had used their people in government to ward off common people, turning the area into a forbidden zone. Besides, it was night when desert monsters were the most active, how could there be someone stupid enough to enter the black owl citadel? Especially with Lord Ning awake? Probably, the person didn't know he had come out from his secluded cultivation. Still, it didn't make sense. “Ah!” A thought occurred to the sentinel and he looked at Lord Ning. “My Lord, a team was sent to replenish provisions for the human team heading the transformation elixir research. It could be them returning.” The corner of Lord Ning’s lip turned up in a disdainful smirk. “Is that so?” He didn't believe it one bit. But he was too lazy to check. He wasn't the type to volunteer for thankless jobs. If someone wanted to spy on them, so what? With the measures set in place, the person could onl

  • Demon King, Lord Ning

Dark owl secondary base interior. Deep inside the base, there was a tower. Ten feet below it, a creature was chained with gigantic chains made from an unknown metal. The creature was a giant humongous being that seemed like part orc part goblin. It had two sharp protruding teeth, and green slime was pouring steadily out of its body. It took up more that seventy percent of the room, and was chained between three massive pillars. Behind him was a huge blood sigil runic circle carved into the wall. The outer part of the formations carved on the wall behind the creature looked like a containment/ restriction array due to its shape. But the inner part filled with blood hexagons and rune carvings made it seem like a forbidden formation used to fire up the creature and make it more ferocious. There were also rune carvings on the pillar. Light glowed on the floor beneath the creature, exposing a formation similar to the one behind it. However, the formation on the ground was mainly c

“It might be hard, but there's always a way.” Came the system’s flippant reply. Alvin rolled his eyes. “Do you have an idea? Any safe route? Which path should I take?” “How am I supposed to know that? You're the human, figure something out. My duty as your system is to help.” Alvin sneered but kept silent. The system always pushed him to the forefront of dangerous situations and expected him to come up with omniscient abilities to succeed. Just then, a search light swept in Alvin’s direction. He dove down, lying flat on the ground and holding his breath to prevent the detectors from sensing anything. Thankfully, he was still wearing his black cloak which somehow blended with the dark brown sand dunes. The Searchlight swept pass, and Alvin heaved out a sigh of relief. Before he could relax, he felt an ominous presence, and his hairs stood on edge. Sending out spiritual energy to investigate might attract attention, yet he couldn't sit still and do nothing. “System, fill me up on the situation.” Alvin quickly entered his inventory partition, and changed into his mission gear. Pills went into his gloves, and his storage ring got filled up with utilities. He also wore a special heat control and bullet proof vest underneath. The vest was very light, and breatheable, cool to the body beneath his normal clothes. Anesthetic guns, poisoned needles also went in. He strapped on his special system bracelet, and his lens went in to disguise the color of his eyes. He also ran over a few spells, and information he got on the evil organization during his most recent investigations. His military boots were slipped on, alongside other additions, and he was ready. “The evil organization’s lab just made a breakthrough with their nefarious research. The elixir they developed, when paired with a certain chip, would enable them to transform even the weakest children into terrifying existences. They would turn into undead soldiers, mindless, with s

Alvin began to steadily retract control from Elena. He no longer gave her unrestricted access to the companies and funds. For example, instead of financial reports being submitted to her, he relegated it to his desk, and took back the power of attorney to sign away money for projects. Since he didn't know which of them was working for the evil organization, he didn't want to take chances with his assets. Thankfully, two other major corporations were being managed in secret with the system’s help. He was already regretting letting her see everything about his three companies’ cash flow and list of assets. What if greed makes her betray him tomorrow? Sure, she was dedicated and helpful. But if she was working with the enemies, it would be devastating. It was better safe than sorry. Her sphere of influence was cleverly reduced, using the excuse of stress affecting her health and making her unable to find time for cultivation. The next on his list was Tiffany. He needed cleve

“Are you ready?” Alvin looked at Ryker, who was sitting opposite him with an ancient scroll sitting between them. Ryker wheezed out a breath. His palm felt clammy with sweat, and his heart wouldn't stop beating a mile a minute. “Does this have any side effects? I…” “As long as you don't betray me or sell me out to my enemies, nothing will happen to you. However, this is irreversible. Once we complete the oath, you're stuck with me. Even if you get discharged in the future, you still won't be able to leak information or go against my interest.” “What's the penalty if I break the oath?” Ryker stuttered nervously, rubbing his palms against his trousers. Alvin smiled mysteriously. “Are you planning to break it?” His eyes hardened the next instant. “Cut the crap, let's start.” Ryker inhaled deeply, and exhaled, then inhaled again. He was doing it. He was really tying in this madness. The point of no return already arrived before he knew it. He looked at Alvin, his heart unable t
