Tom looked back and could not see anyone, he looked at the mirror again and the person was really gone.
He rushed out of his car and ran toward the direction he saw the person but he could not find anything anymore.
He was so frustrated.
He returned to his car and angrily kicked his car tires!
Without wasting any more time, he drove his car straight to the office and walked into the station with the lunch pack in his hand.
Immediately he met with the cleaner who gave him a warm smile and a polite greeting.
His mood was quite bad, so he only gave a fake smile before handing the meal to her.
"It's a homemade meal, personally made by me, just have it" he said and walked away expecting her extra greeting because he could she won't stop thanking him if he had waited a little while.
"Morning" Dave greeted and Tom nodded and entered his office. He hung his jacket and sat down on the chair, resting his back as his mind was far from settling.
"Morning sheriff" Hank greeted as he worked in with Dave. "Morning, any progress?" Tom said as he sat up and looked at the men whose expression were worst that his.
"We checked on the footage as you instructed but there was no recording since the morning. We tried to hack it but it didn't work out. I guess someone tampered with it"
Hank said and Tom was shocked. He angrily hit the table instantly. "F*ck" he said and looked at them.
"The guy who came to the station to report, what's his name?,what's his job description and hold up, locate him instantly, I have some questions for him.
The gym events seems like set up. And checked if there is anything that we could check into.
We must have missed something out and I want a video recording of the gym for the past two weeks till date.
Watch them and give me details of people who look suspicious. We won't want to deal with the matter without knowing what it is for us fully?
I also want details on the last events as well. Give me something I really want.
Watch the footage thoroughly, no scene missing!" Tom said and stood up from his seat and walked to the window side that was at the left side of his desk.
"And how is Jane doing?" Tom asked and the officers looked at each other.
"Mister Tom, true be told, the last time we checked on her was yesterday, she should be fine, we guess!" Hank said and Tom looked back at them surprisingly.
"That's bad and to be sure, is there any office on stand-by in the hospital?" Tom asked as he picked his cell phone to make a phone call.
"No,we are all busy with the impending work and research, the hospital is secure enough" Dave said and Tom was speechless.
He tried calling Jane's phone but it was not reachable. He tried thrice and yet it was the same.
"She is also involved in this investigation and she was almost killed yesterday, more reason why she needs to be protected now than ever.
Send an officer to the hospital and make it a shift or whatever, all I know is an office must be by her side and I will be going to see her now, let the officer meet me there."
Tom said and picked up his phone and walked out of the office, leaving the two officer in his office.
"He is just too much of a workaholic, he really needs to slow down!" Hank said and Dave chuckled as Hank's expression.
"He is just doing his job" Dave said and Hank looked at him, "with extra sauce!" He said and they both laughed before returning to their desk.
Hank's phone rang immediately he sat down and he looked sideways to see if no one was watching him before he went toward the men's rest room to pick up the call.
Tom drove at a normal speed with a lot in his mind to the hospital. He inspected the environment properly before proceeding to the ward where Jane was kept.
He entered the ward and everything was too quiet, he looked around the room to be sure it's safe and out the windows before sitting beside Jane.
"Detective Jane, I am really sorry to risk your life like that, I couldn't even protect you when you needed me at that moment. I have heard and seen that you have that fighting spirit again.
Please fight again, I want to conclude this mission with you and unravel everything pertaining to this. I trust you" Tom said softly as he looked at Jane's body on the bed.
His head was down as he was so sober and reflecting on what happened and what should have happened.
"So sweet of you sir" Jane's voice resounded in Tom's head loud and clear and he looked up in shock to see that Jane was awake.
"Jane, I never knew you were awake" Tom said as he was so embarrassed to sit he just released a rollercoaster of his emotions to her.
"Yes boss, it's part of skills to pretend till I know the situation I am in. And I am glad I faked it to get such a word from your mouth. Anyway, I am not a weakling.
It's just a scratch from that bloody beast. I won't die so easily" Jane said and Tom chuckled.
"No CCTV camera was walking at that time and it seems like a set up to me, we walked right in and it attacked us and it knows it's way around the gym because it ran away pretty too fast" Tom said, going straight to the point.
Jane looked up at him and looked away.
"The beast looks more like it was coming for you" Jane said and Tom looked at her and nodded before standing up.
"What do you think?" Tom asked and Jane looked at the window and sighs.
"Someone amidst us is working with those beasts!" Jane said and Tom looked at her.

"Mountain ash, huh? That's an intriguing idea. Considering its folklore, it just might work. I would say it's a long shot, but it's worth it.
