Still Deborah kept her head low, her fingers shaking lightly as she held her hands together. She couldn’t look at him.

“You only saw him as a low person,” Uncle Bernard continued, his voice rising. “And now look! Look at what has happened! You caused this, and it’s not just your loss, it’s the family’s loss. We will all feel it. We will all suffer because of you.”

Jessica’s face was still tight. She looked at her mother with a kind of pain she didn’t know how to express. Her jaw moved like she wanted to speak, but she was just too angry to form the right words.

Deborah swallowed hard, then her voice came out, low and weak. “I’m sorry,” she said quietly. “It was Victoria... she was the one always lighting my fire. Even when I wanted to calm down, she would come again, whisper things to me, and I... I let her.”

Her voice cracked, and she wiped her face with her hand. “I’m sorry.”

Jessica let out a small, bitter laugh, shaking her head. “Sorry? Now you’re sorry?”

At that moment, David couldn’t help it he started smiling, but it wasn’t a smile of joy. It was smug. Condescending. He slowly rose from his seat like a man who believed he had just cracked the biggest joke of the night. Straightening his suit, he gave the crowd a short nod, soaking in the energy of the whispers and laughter that still lingered in the air like smoke after a fire.“Well,” David began, his voice loud enough to capture the entire hall’s attention, “I honestly didn’t want to say anything. I really didn’t. I came here to have a good time, not to be pulled into some circus performance.”A few people chuckled, others turned to look at him with curiosity.“But one thing about me,” David continued, now walking slowly in front of the long banquet table where Sophia and Damien sat, “is that I hate liars. I hate people who live fake lives. People who walk into rooms trying to act like something they’re not. I hate people who think they can take others for a ride.”He turned, his

At that moment, Demian simply smiled. It wasn’t forced or nervous it was calm, controlled, and deliberate. The kind of smile that said he saw through the game being played. The kind of smile that warned everyone in the room not to push further than they could handle. He didn’t need anyone to spell it out. It was obvious from the way the announcer dragged out his words, the way eyes kept darting between him and Sophia, the way the silence stretched just a second too long after the question was asked. This was staged. It wasn’t curiosity they were setting him up. Planning to expose or embarrass him. Maybe they thought he was just some random man Sophia picked off the street. Maybe they believed they could throw him off, make him stumble, make Sophia feel ashamed for bringing a man like him here.Well, they picked the wrong person tonight. That was exactly why Demian came prepared. He knew how these circles worked he understood the whispers behind polished smiles, the judgment behind eve

Then, without hesitation, he stepped forward and bowed deeply toward David not out of formality, but out of pure, unshaken respect. He remained that way for a few seconds before rising slowly.“In all honesty,” he said, “I shouldn’t even be standing tall while speaking about a man like David. I am not worthy to list his name in the same breath as mine.”The moment carried weight. The atmosphere thickened with reverence. But then David, calm and composed, slowly rose to his feet. His presence was effortless like a breeze that didn’t announce itself but changed the air when it arrived. He gave the announcer a small nod, his voice deep, but gentle.“You’ve said enough,” David said. “But if you must speak of me... mention this humble people deserve great respect. That is all.”The words echoed through the crowd like thunder wrapped in silk.A few people clapped softly, others bowed their heads. Even Rebecca, seated a few steps away, looked toward David with a different kind of gaze this w

At that moment, the announcer smiled warmly, his voice echoing across the event hall as he took center stage beneath the elegant, softly glowing chandelier. He clutched the microphone with confidence, clearing his throat just slightly, before speaking with cheerful energy.“Well, ladies and gentlemen,” he began, flashing a charming grin, “now that everyone is present and properly seated, I believe it's time for us to officially kick off this much-anticipated gathering. It has been far too long since some of us have seen one another, and I must say, the room tonight is glowing filled with familiar faces, and of course, some beautiful new additions.”He took a small pause, allowing a ripple of polite laughter and warm glances to pass through the audience.“I see that many of our gentlemen have arrived with their stunning girlfriends, and some of our gorgeous ladies are here with their charming boyfriends or should I say, husbands now?” he added, his tone playful and teasing. The crowd c

Rebecca blinked slowly, still saying nothing. Cecilia didn’t give her the chance.“Now tell me,” she continued, shaking her head in disbelief, “how can you open your mouth and talk anyhow like that in front of someone like David? You’re trying to make him look small when he hasn’t even said a word back to you. Do you think that’s okay? Is it not foolishness? Don’t try that nonsense again.”She turned slightly to look at David, as if silently reaffirming her loyalty, before looking back at Rebecca with an even firmer stare.“And that’s not all,” she went on. “You think it’s just military they have? You don’t even know the half of it. That family, the Johnson-Jude family people call them JJ for a reason. They don’t just wear ranks. They wear power. Their influence stretches across business, security, healing yes, I said healing and more.”Cecilia then took a step forward, as though drawing a line between herself and Rebecca with nothing but her words.“They own one of the largest import

At that moment, Rebecca nodded her head firmly, her voice trembling but certain.“Yes,” she said. “Not just a military personnel or some ordinary officer. No. He’s extremely ranked like at the very top. Everything you heard outside, the helicopters, the cars, the soldiers… all of it belongs to him. He came down from a Rolls-Royce I’ve never even seen before in my life. It wasn’t just expensive it was the kind of car only a handful of people in the world would even dare to sit in.” Her chest rose and fell quickly as she spoke, her eyes darting around the hall nervously as if she feared someone else might have overheard her confession. Then she looked back at Cecilia, her tone dropping into a whisper. “That man… Sophia’s man… he’s too powerful, too connected. Nobody should mess with him. He’s in a completely different league, Cecilia. I mean it.”Cecilia froze, staring at Rebecca like she was hearing nonsense, yet the seriousness in Rebecca’s eyes kept her from brushing it off. Slowly
