Chapter 39; The Seat He Was Never Supposed to Have

The entire boardroom fell silent after Michael spoke.

“A seat at this table.”

Nobody reacted immediately because the statement itself felt unreal.

Luxter Energy had always belonged to the Luxter family. Even major shareholders understood the invisible line they were not supposed to cross. They invested, earned profits, attended meetings, then went home.

But Michael was not behaving like an ordinary shareholder.

He was behaving like somebody who intended to take control.

Marcus adjusted his glasses nervously before speaking. “Mr. Krux, with all due respect, seven percent does not automatically guarantee you a board position.”

Michael nodded calmly. “Normally, yes.”

Layla noticed the slight emphasis on the word normally.

Then Aria stepped forward and placed several documents on the table one after another.

“But these do,” Michael added.

Gabriel immediately collected one of the files while the other board members hurried to open theirs.

Layla leaned slightly forward.

Then her eyes widened.

More shares.

Different acquisition reports.

Different companies.

Different dates.

But all connected.

Gabriel’s face slowly lost color as he flipped through the pages.

“You bought more shares?” he asked quietly.

Michael folded his hands calmly in front of him. “Nine point three percent as of this morning.”

The room exploded immediately.

“What?”

“That’s impossible!”

“When did this happen?”

Layla looked toward her father instantly.

His face had gone completely dark.

Not panic this time.

Pure rage.

“You planned this,” he said coldly.

Michael met his gaze calmly. “Of course I did.”

Marcus looked genuinely shaken now. “Nine percent makes him one of the largest shareholders in the company.”

Another executive lowered his voice nervously. “If the media hears this…”

“They already have,” Aria replied smoothly.

Several phones immediately began vibrating around the room.

Layla picked hers up quickly and opened the latest headlines.

LUXTER ENERGY STOCKS FALL AGAIN

The comments underneath were even worse.

Investors were panicking publicly.

People were already predicting internal collapse.

And worst of all, The market was reacting in Michael’s favor.

Gabriel rubbed his forehead slowly before looking at Michael again.

“What exactly do you want?” he asked quietly.

Michael’s expression remained calm.

“Transparency,” he replied.

Layla almost frowned at how easily the lie came out.

This was not about transparency.

This was personal.

One of the older board members suddenly looked toward Gabriel’s father.

“With all due respect,” he said carefully, “perhaps allowing Mr. Krux a temporary seat would calm the market.”

The room became quiet instantly.

Layla slowly turned toward the man in disbelief.

Her father looked like he was seconds away from exploding.

“You can’t be serious,” he said dangerously.

The board member adjusted uncomfortably in his seat. “Sir, investors are already nervous. Fighting publicly against a major shareholder right now may worsen things.”

Another shareholder reluctantly nodded.

“He’s right.”

Layla’s eyes widened slightly.

They were turning already.

Michael had not even been in the company for one full day, yet people were already beginning to side with him.

Her father noticed it too.

“You people have lost your minds,” he snapped angrily. “This boy is manipulating all of you.”

Michael gave a faint smile for the first time that morning.

“No,” he replied calmly. “I’m simply prepared.”

That answer landed harder than shouting would have.

Layla noticed several executives avoiding eye contact again.

Because deep down, they knew he was right.

Luxter Energy had been reacting emotionally ever since Michael returned while he kept moving calmly one step ahead every single time.

Gabriel suddenly stood up before the argument could worsen further.

“Enough,” he said firmly.

The room slowly quieted.

Gabriel looked exhausted already.

“We’re not making any decisions emotionally today,” he continued. “The board will review the situation privately before responding officially.”

Michael nodded once. “Fair.”

Her father stared at him with visible hatred.

“You walk into my company acting like you already own it.”

Michael slowly stood from his chair.

“No,” he corrected calmly. “I walked into a company that’s beginning to realize it needs me.”

The statement irritated several people instantly, but before anyone could respond, one of the assistants hurried into the room looking pale.

“Sir,” the young man said nervously while looking toward Gabriel, “the investors from Singapore just canceled the partnership meeting.”

Gabriel frowned immediately. “What?”

The assistant swallowed hard.

“They said they don’t want to move forward until the internal conflict inside Luxter Energy is resolved.”

The room became silent again.

Layla felt the tension increase immediately.

Those investors were important.

Very important.

Her father’s expression hardened dangerously. “Did they say who informed them about this situation?”

The assistant hesitated.

Then slowly looked toward Michael.

Nobody needed another explanation after that.

Her father gave a cold laugh filled with disbelief.

“So this was your plan all along.”

Michael calmly adjusted the cuff of his suit.

“If your business was stable,” he replied, “one shareholder wouldn’t be enough to shake it.”

That was the face slap.

A painful one.

Because nobody in the room could deny the truth inside those words.

Gabriel closed his eyes briefly like a man developing a headache.

Meanwhile, Layla quietly watched Michael.

And for the first time since this battle began, She realized he was not trying to destroy Luxter Energy quickly.

He wanted them humiliated first.

Slowly.

Publicly.

The same way he must have suffered years ago.

Michael turned toward the door calmly as if the meeting no longer interested him.

But just before leaving, he paused slightly.

Then he looked directly at Layla.

“Ask your father why my mother died,” he said quietly.

The room froze.

Layla’s heartbeat immediately quickened.

Her father’s face changed so suddenly that even Gabriel noticed it.

And in that exact moment, Layla understood something terrifying.

Michael was not bluffing.

Her father was genuinely afraid of that question.

Layla sat quietly in the living room scrolling through the headlines on her phone while her father paced across the room angrily. “He planned this,” he muttered for what felt like the hundredth time that day. “Every single step was planned.” Gabriel loosened his tie tiredly. “Complaining about it won’t stop the market from reacting.” Her father stopped walking immediately. “So what exactly do you suggest?” Gabriel hesitated briefly
