Adrian’s lungs burned, every breath a struggle through the smoke and ash that choked the air. The rooftop beneath them groaned and cracked, threatening to give way at any second.

Emily’s grip on her blade was taut, knuckles white, eyes flicking nervously between Adrian, Grayson, the rider, and Lucas.

The city was a maelstrom of chaos. Fires raged unchecked, twisted metal hung precariously from buildings, and the streets below were a maze of destruction.

The massive drone from earlier lay in smoldering ruins, but it had been only a taste of the destruction Lucas and the rider were orchestrating.

Adrian glanced at the rider, poised and calm despite the collapsing environment. Her presence was terrifyingly serene.

She raised her blade slightly, a silent signal of the imminent strike. Lucas, weapon in hand, stepped forward, a cruel grin stretching across his face.
