Chapter 1

"Your master won't save you. It's better if you spill everything out; otherwise, you won't dare to think about the consequences." Nathan's voice was icy as he spoke to the man kneeling before him. Deltery Hamel, president of Hamel Enterprise, Beloberg's largest company, felt Nathan's sharp shoe tip beneath his chin.

Nathan learned that the bomb implanted in his parents' plane was the work of the Hamel Group, which caused Deletry to be in this precarious situation.

"Everything I'm telling you is the unvarnished truth," Deltery stammered, shivering. "A person like me is no match for a legend like you."

Even before Nathan opened his mouth, his phone rang, and upon seeing the name on the phone screen, his cold face became warm, and a small smile crept across his lips, only to vanish within seconds.

“Hello,” he answered calmly with a pleasant voice.

“I need divorce,” his wife Karina said.

Her request made Nathan speechless and stunned. He hung up on her without saying anything and then turned to Deltery, who watched him with fear in his eyes. In the next moment, Nathan's fist struck Deltery's face, his fingers clenched in the man's hair, and he issued a chilling warning.

"If I discover any news that contradicts your statement, you will see your family’s demise mercilessly unfold before your eyes."

He threw Deltery to the ground and walked away. He went to his wife's company after changing from his 4-piece tailored suit to casual plain clothes.

“Nathan, you are finally here." I do not know if a person like you also takes a long time to arrive," Alice, his wife Karina's female secretary, remarked sarcastically. Nathan frowned but said nothing after hearing her words.

"Follow me," she said as she walked forward. He followed her upstairs and into the president's office in silence.

"Nathan, here is Ms. Blackwood's divorce agreement; just sign it." Alice took some A4 papers from the drawer and placed them in front of him, turning them to a divorce compensation page.

Seeing that paper, Nathan knitted his eyebrows together and questioned,

“What was this?”

"Oh, do not say you do not know what that was. My madam is so generous that she is offering you three million US dollars, which is more than enough to live a peaceful life, as well as a building and a car. I don’t think you deserve all these,” Alice ridiculed him.

Nathan refused to sign the agreement, which infuriated Alice.

“Do you understand what you are saying? You don’t have any authority to refuse the divorce because she has already divorced you. You are nothing but a smear on her reputation,” Alice said.

“What do you mean by your comment?” Nathan questioned.

Three years ago, Blackwood Company was nothing and Karina was struggling to keep up with the family’s business. Everything began to change after Karina married Nathan, and her company rose to the top ten thanks to Nathan's covert assistance.

“If she wants to divorce me, ask her to meet me,” Nathan said without any feeling. He tried to suppress all his emotions without letting them out.

Alice lifted her chin toward him and sneered.

“What? Do you think our president has that much idle time like you that she will waste her time on such trivial matters?”

“A trivial matter?” Nathan was trying to control his dissipating anger, but Alice is really making it hard for him.

“Yes, do you think you are eligible to lay a condition for her?” Alice looked over the magazine cover where Katrina's photo was used as the main cover, and that magazine covered an article about Karina's journey to success.

“See where you stand, Nathan. My president worked hard day and night and earned two billion dollars in a span of three years, propelling her company into the top ten, but you are still doing nothing and relying on her," Alice added proudly.

“Nathan, listen to my suggestion. Simply sign the papers to receive your compensation. If you keep irritating and annoying Ms. Blackwood, you might lose this compensation too,” Alice suggested, to which Nathan threw a cold look towards her and said,

“I don’t need a dollar from her. She has to meet me if she needs a divorce.” After saying this, Nathan stood up and walked out of the room, leaving no room for Alice to argue or say anything else. As he was about to leave the room, he noticed a curvy figure approaching him in a white knee-length frock and loose, wavy hair.

"You're finally here!"

Nathan felt a gush of emotions wash through him after seeing his beautiful wife. They both always led a peaceful life with love and care. But how did this end, and he is still not able to understand what had gone wrong?

“I am sorry, I am late; I was caught with some emergency.”

"You are always so busy that you sent the divorce papers through your secretary." Karina, who sat in her swing chair with her alluring looks, just cast a glance at him but didn’t bother to explain any further.

“Since you’re here, let’s come to the point. I want this to end on a pleasant note. I am sorry I am doing this to you, but how about a house, a car, and three million US dollars?” Karina didn’t beta around the bush.

“I want to know the reason behind your decision,” Nathan stated.

“I don’t have any use with you,” Karina said plainly but even before Nathan opened his mouth, Alice interrupted, saying,

“Alex Atwood, the heir to the fifth company in Belloberg City, had his interest in our president and when compared to you, he is far better and his reputation value adds to our company.”

Nathan ignored her completely and turned to look at Karina, who was standing at the giant window and gazing outside.

“Is this the truth, Karina?” Nathan questioned her; his heart is being twisted inside him.

“It’s my own decision,” Karina stated.

“What about the three years of marriage we shared? Am I being a hindrance to the growth of your company?” Nathan questioned. Karina felt sad after hearing it but she immediately let it go and nodded her head.

“Nathan, we already reached this point and there is no need for all this now. Just sign the papers and leave,” Karina spat in anger.

“Is your company more important to you than me?” Nathan questioned.

“Yes, my company is more important. Look at yourself; you are no match for me,” Karina spat venom in her words.

“I am asking you one last time: is your company more important to you than me?"

"Yes." The second he heard that answer from her, he didn’t utter a single word and signed the papers in silence.

“I don’t need any money from you but give me back the Tinder that I gave you back then,” Nathan said and Karina handed it over to him. He walked away from there with Tinder in his hand, as he didn’t want her to drag him into inner family turmoil.

Karina felt a wave of sadness hit her. Even though she was the one who asked for this, she felt she was losing something precious by seeing him walk away from her       like that.
