Zed raised the glass once again and gulped down the water. He sighed heavily and dropped the glass onto the counter in front of him. Loosening his black tie to breathe more freely, he wiped the beads of sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand.

The pub was packed with people, and despite the three ceiling fans rotating overhead, the place remained stiflingly hot. Every single person there was drenched in sweat, their clothes clinging to their bodies.

“Rough day?” the female bartender asked, noticing the worried look etched across Zed’s face.

“Yeah,” Zed nodded, picking up the glass of water once more and downing the entire contents in one go.

“You really are thirsty. Don’t they offer you water at your fancy company?” she asked, grabbing the glass and walking away to refill it. Moments later, she returned, now holding a glass brimming with ice water.

Zed accepted it and took a small sip.

“You know,” she continued, “this place is always filled with lowlifes and folks without jo

Elsewhere, inside an opulent mansion adorned with crystal chandeliers and gold-trimmed furniture, Mr. Damien reclined comfortably on a plush leather sofa, a glass of champagne balanced elegantly in his right hand. Sitting across from him was his stunning daughter, Mia. She, too, held a delicate flute of champagne, her gaze intensely focused on her father as he spoke.“The trial is in a few days,” Mr. Damien began, his voice calm but laced with calculation. “Steve already confessed to his crimes, so he’s definitely going to jail. No matter what Zed does, he won’t be able to save him.”He paused, taking a small sip of his drink, then continued, “I’ve been keeping a close watch on Zed and his company. I know Steve is his top engineer and that he has a soft spot for the guy. He won’t want him rotting behind bars for years. I’m certain he’s doing everything in his power to stop that from happening.”Mia brought her glass to her lips and took a slow sip, her eyes never leaving her father. S

"Alright. I'll give you the ship you want," Zed remarked audibly, his gaze fixed intently on Mr. Anderson.A sinister grin crept onto Mr. Anderson’s face as he took a long, slow drag from his cigarette, then exhaled a thick cloud of smoke through his nostrils and mouth."You know, this could have gone a lot easier. If you had accepted the deal earlier, we wouldn’t have gone through so much stress," he bellowed, smoke curling from his lips with every word. "I’m the type of man who hates stress. I get everything I want without going through unnecessary effort—without even breaking a sweat. But you stressed me out, and for that... you must pay."Zed said nothing. He simply watched and listened, his face unreadable."For causing me this trouble, you won’t be getting a single penny from me. The support I promised earlier is off the table. You won’t receive any funds… and you certainly won’t be paid after the ship is completed," Mr. Anderson articulated coldly.Upon hearing those words, Zed

“What they don’t know,” Mr. Anderson began, his voice low and gravelly, “is that there are some secrets I keep. Really dark secrets. Secrets that only a handful of people know—and those who aren't supposed to know… are often taken out.”He leaned forward slowly until his face was just inches from Zed’s. His eyes bore into him with unnerving precision.“And you, my friend—you know about it. I’d like to know how.”A tense silence gripped the basement like a vice. The atmosphere was heavy, stifling. Everyone’s gaze was fixed on Zed.Zed’s heart pounded in his chest like a war drum. He forced himself to maintain his usual calm, collected exterior, but no matter how still he sat or how carefully he composed his face, Mr. Anderson could see right through it.How de hell he know? Zed thought, his mind racing. It was the system that had revealed the truth about the Anderson Group’s secret dealings. He had never breathed a word of it to anyone—hadn’t even hinted at it. He made sure to cover hi

Sparrow pulled open the door of the black van and gestured for Zed to step inside. Zed hesitated for a few moments, eyes narrowing slightly as if trying to assess the situation, before finally stepping in. The instant his feet touched the floor of the van, Sparrow slammed the door shut and locked it with a decisive click. Without wasting a second, he made his way to the driver's seat, slid in, started the engine, and drove off without delay. The van rolled through the bustling streets of the city, weaving between honking cars and hurried pedestrians. The city buzzed with life—honking horns, distant sirens, and the occasional call from a street vendor. But the longer they drove, the more that vibrant chaos faded away. After what felt like forever, the van left the crowded streets and ventured into a much more desolate area.Zed couldn’t see a thing from where he sat. The windows were tightly covered with thick black curtains, blocking out any view of the outside world. Yet, despite the

"I told the cute chick out there that my name was Collins. But that was obviously a lie. I go by the name Sparrow," the man said, his voice low and smooth, a dark smirk curling at the corners of his mouth like poison on lips.Zed rose to his feet, a rigid tension stiffening his posture. The muscles around his eyes twitched slightly, and a shadow passed over his face."Sparrow, huh? And who are you, really? Who sent you?" Zed asked, his voice low, brittle. "Was it Salazar?" He swallowed hard, and the sudden dryness in his throat was undeniable. His eyes locked on the man's face, and his heart pounded violently against his ribs like a war drum."Salazar?" Sparrow scoffed, shaking his head slightly. "No, I don't work for Salazar. I work for Mr. Anderson."Zed's face changed instantly at the name. His lips parted, but it took him a second before sound came out."Yes… I do," he muttered, barely above a whisper."That's good," Sparrow chuckled, his voice oddly calm as he strode forward with

Mr. Anderson sat down quietly in his neatly arranged office, the soft ticking of the antique wall clock the only sound that accompanied his keystrokes. He was busy typing away on his computer, his fingers gliding smoothly across the keyboard with precise rhythm. The glare from the screen reflected faintly off his square-framed glasses, his eyes focused and his expression cold, as always. Outside his window, the overcast sky painted everything in shades of gray, mirroring the aura of the man behind the desk.As he continued working, a small notification popped up in the corner of his screen. It was an email—one he had been waiting for all day. The sender’s name glared at him like a challenge: Zed Zimmerman.Mr. Anderson's fingers froze mid-typing. His lips curled into a faint smile, subtle yet rare, softening his otherwise fierce expression. He moved swiftly, clicking the notification to open the message. His heart pulsed slightly faster—not out of excitement, but because he was cert

  • Is it a threat?

"I don't think she wants to meet you to talk about business. She probably just wants you two to hang out, sip some wine, maybe see a movie—""You're talking about a date?" Zed blurted out, eyes widening slightly."Well, yeah." Amanda affirmed casually, like it was the most obvious thing in the world."A date with a woman like Mrs. Josephine? Don't make me laugh," Zed muttered with a scoff, leaning back in his chair.Everyone in the city knew who Mrs. Josephine was.She wasn't just famous because of her wealth, her booming businesses, or the powerful web of connections she had spun over the years. No, Josephine's allure went far beyond influence and money. She was also strikingly beautiful—breathtaking, in fact. The kind of woman men dreamed about. She had received countless proposals from millionaires and billionaires scattered across the country. Hundreds of men were dying just for a chance to take her out to dinner. Heck, dozens of the wealthiest and most powerful men were willing t

"The police can't save me. I'm alone in this," Zed bellowed, lifting his glass of juice and taking a slow sip.Kimberly stood silently after hearing his words. She was completely speechless. The weight of what he said sank deep into her chest. She could sense the tension in Zed’s voice… and more than that, she could tell how frightened he truly was. This wasn’t just some casual issue. This was a matter of life and death. It felt as though Zed had been dragged into a war—one where he had no soldiers, no allies, and no safe retreat. He was facing it all on his own.Zed continued eating for a few minutes in silence. The clinking of the cutlery on his plate was the only sound in the room. When he finally felt satisfied, he took another sip of juice and then rose to his feet with the help of his cane."I'll be leaving now," Zed announced, pushing the chair back gently. He turned slightly to face Kimberly, his expression firm and commanding."Make sure to keep the doors locked and stay indo

The morning sun rose, and the rays flickered into the room through the window and shone brightly into the eyes of Zed. He opened his eyes sluggishly and slowly shielded his eyes with his right hand. He sat upright sluggishly, and when he glanced around the place. He recognized where he was instantly. It was his room."Hmm.." Zed mused as he scanned the place. The last thing the remembered was lying down on the sofa in the living room last night, and then he passed out. He had no idea how he got to his room.As Zed glanced around he spotted a walking cane resting beside his bed. The cane was pitch black in color with some gold etchings on it, and the top of it was designed like a wolf's head.Zed reached for the cane and grabbed it. With the help of the cane, he got off his bed and slowly walked towards the window. He stood by the window, his right hand holding the walking stick, and his gaze fixed outside the mansion. He could still feel pains around his body, but it was much better t
