Lucian woke up in a hospital, his eyes peeling open to the bright lights above him. He deflected the brightness with his palm and looked away.
His gaze met the same men from earlier, all of them were in the room with him and it made him feel uncomfortable.
He couldn't stand such a crowd, irrespective of why they were there. Just as he sat up, he saw the same woman his gaze had met before darkness took him.
"Angelica," he said her name, his gaze then switched to the men in the room. "You are aware I am not a fan of such a crowd."
Hearing him, she quickly apologized, retracing her steps. "I am so sorry, Master."
Without further words, the men left, taking a stand outside while Lucian remained with Angelica.
Lucian heaved a sigh as he made a comment before relaxing his back. "That's better."
"I am glad you're alright, Master."
"Thank you. Didn't expect I would live to see the light again," Lucian replied, his gaze fixed on the window and the beautiful view beyond it. His voice seemed distant, yet calm.
"Master, I wish to inform you that the research on the cure for your limbs was successful, and you have been injected with the serum." She paused for a moment before letting out the bomb. "You can walk again!"
Lucian raised a brow as he asked, "How sure were you that it would work before injecting it?"
"I was 100% sure, Master. We ran through all possible tests to avoid yet another failure in trying to secure a cure for your limbs," she responded immediately. Her words carried assurance and loyalty.
Lucian hummed for a moment. His gaze fell on his legs. He didn’t smile. He didn’t laugh. He was still pissed about all that had happened before this moment.
He remembered how death tugged at him like a galloping horse, how fate sat there mocking his chance of survival.
While he remembered the disaster, he felt his limbs. For the first time in seven years, he could move them.
"Incredible," he marveled at his limbs' response. Angelica was right, the serum was 100%, and he could walk again.
He placed them on the tiled floor of the room and got up, feeling his entire body in one piece. He walked, did different things with them.
And there, he muttered, "This is magnificent! I can walk again!" Joy lingered in his words, but it was only a matter of time before he got hit by it again, Tracy's betrayal.
It didn't leave him. And now that he could walk again, there was only one thing on his mind.
He turned around and found Angelica still standing in the same spot he had left her.
"Get me another wheelchair," he ordered. "I have scores to settle."
"Sir?" She was startled for a moment. Why did he need another wheelchair? He could walk just fine, so why?
"Any problem?" He turned around, his gaze calculating the odds against him.
"No, sir. I will get it right away." She didn’t hesitate further. She left the room and returned later with another wheelchair as requested.
"Perfect." He sat into it, not as a crippled man but as a man yet to make ends meet. "Another thing." He raised his fingers. "Ensure no one knows about my secret."
She nodded affirmatively before she grabbed her purse and led him out of the room.
Lucian arrived at his designated location as planned. His gaze met the mansion, and his expression changed just as fast.
Angelica didn’t come with him, he ordered her to leave after she dropped him off. She was hesitant at first, but she had no choice other than to let him do whatever he pleased.
He passed the security post unattended. He then wheeled into the interior parts of the mansion. He first came into the living room, where something caught his eyes.
His ears bled to unpleasant sounds that came from the couch not too far from where he stood.
His heart slammed by bricks of pain. Tracy and the same man he caught her with were together. She had herself on top of him, sharing a passionate kiss.
His heart tightened even more. The urge to get up and separate them burned desperately within him, but he stopped himself before his legs acted.
He continued his pace and stopped not too far from them. The sound of his wheels forced the two lovers to stop and check to see what made the sound, only for them both to be shocked when they saw Lucian sitting there in his wheelchair.
"Oh my God!" exclaimed Tracy as she got off Henry.
"Lucian? How did you– I thought you died."
Lucian didn’t say anything.
Her words hit like bricks. Did she really want him dead? Did she not even care about him at all? Was everything she said about him true?
His fingers tightened around the armrest, his gaze dark and rageful. "So you wanted me dead?"
"The building came down, there was no way you escaped. How?”
Lucian smirked, "I'm here now."
"What's going on here?!" a voice interrupted them. An elder of the household, along with some other members, came into the living room.
The voice belonged to Tracy's father, and when he sighted Lucian, he frowned.
"Why aren't you dead, you crippled man?" The man belittled him. "Why show up all of a sudden?"
Even this man wants me dead, after everything I did for him, Lucian thought. Then his gaze found Tracy’s mother, who looked at him with so much disgust.
"How funny of you to find your way back here. Your belongings were sent to charity since you were gone for two days." She smiled haughtily, before continuing. “You can't blame us for thinking you died.”
Lucian raised a brow, his mind fixed on her statement. It’s been two days already?
"Someone throw this dog out of here."
"Answer me Tracy, why did you cheat on me?” Lucian locked his gaze back on Tracy. "I never expected this from you."
His words were deep and hurting, but Tracy retorted, "You gave me nothing but disgrace through our three years of marriage. All my friends call me the wife of a cripple!
You can't even make love to me. Even incapable of earning a living!"
Lucian didn’t say anything, but the words struck at this heart. She could have talked to him, instead of this betrayal.
"Henry here has just broken past his third energy meridian, and coupled with his family's wealth, he will be able to move me to an A+ Level city, whereas you will be thrown back to a C+ Level city. I can't afford to be thrown into that dump alongside you."
"Is that so?" Lucian’s gaze didn’t waver. "What if I told you I have reached the twelfth energy meridian? And I also have an estate in a Z+ city, which you very well know is the highest city." He carefully wheeled his wheelchair backward and paused. "And it’s only because of me you’ve been getting good roles."
Lucian’s words left Tracy in a dazed state. She had known him for three years and he had never lied to her.
What was he saying about being powerful and rich now?
"Look at this fool!" Tracy’s father barked at him. "You dare make claims for what you can’t and will never do? Pathetic!"
"He's just a dog looking for shelter. Have him thrown out at once," her mother added.
"You are such a liar! A very good one! How did I even end up with you?" Tracy snapped at him with her words. "I really wish I never met you."

She was confident that Lucian was innocent. When ten minutes passed, Blake clapped his hands."We've watched him for ten minutes but nothing has happened. How long was the corn supposed to take before transforming?" he asked, his grin wide. The servant who brought the corn responded, "Five minutes, sir."Blake laughed scornfully. "You hear that?" he asked Lucian. "Five minutes. It's been double the time and yet nothing happened."Lucian was silent as he tried to regain calmness. He didn't care what the corn said. He knew what he saw."Miss Amelia," Blake continued, turning to Amelia who was silent in confusion."I believe we had a deal. Either the corn changes colour or Lucian is thrown out."Amelia turned to Lu
