"Why are you not talking to me?"

Jalen's voice broke the silence in the car, but Sonia didn't answer. She kept her eyes on the road, her hands firm on the wheel, lips pressed in a straight line. Not even a glance at him.

He sighed. The tension was thick, and no matter how much he tried to lighten it, Sonia refused to give in.

Whatever was wrong had clearly dug deep into her chest.

When they got home, Sonia dropped her bag gently, but her words came sharp and fast. “You didn’t listen to me back there, Jalen. You just went ahead and lost control.”

He blinked. “At the mall?”

“Of course, at the mall! What if something had gone wrong? What if you got hurt? Or worse, what if you killed someone there in the course of the fight? You don’t fight every battle with your hands.”

She paused, then turned fully to him and then back to the road. She just wanted the man she’d come to love to be able to listen to her. Especially when things are tough.

She just wished he could see that.

Sonia wasn't jus

The morning light slanted through the blinds of Jalen’s office, spilling over the table where files, contracts, and reports lay scattered. His eyes were fixed on the spreadsheet before him, yet his mind wasn’t fully in it. He was still nursing the unease of the last two days: the confrontation with Aisha, the danger of those leaked files, and the bitter taste of knowing someone close was plotting his downfall. The low buzz of his phone jolted him out of thought. It vibrated against the wooden surface, the number flashing on the screen strange and unfamiliar. He hesitated for a second, then reached for it.“Hello?”The voice that came through sent a cold shiver down his spine.“Hey, prince charming.”Jalen’s lips parted slightly, but no words came, recognizing the voice. He leaned back into his chair, pressing his fingers against the bridge of his nose.“I want us to have dinner tonight,” Elena’s voice dripped like honey. “At my place. Please don’t say no.”For a moment, silence str

The afternoon sun streamed into Jalen’s office, glinting off the polished glass table. He was bent over some documents, his pen tapping against the margin, when the door opened softly. He looked up. His brows shot upward in surprise.“Chuka?”The man at the door smiled faintly, pushing his glasses higher on his nose. He looked leaner than Jalen remembered, his hair closely cropped, his shirt tucked in neatly with a press that spoke of long hours behind a newsroom desk.“Long time, Jalen,” Chuka said, stepping inside.Jalen rose quickly, moving around the desk to embrace him. “My God, it’s been years. What brings you here? Please, sit.”Chuka worked as an investigative journalist for The Daily Chronicle, one of the most widely read newspapers in the city. He had once been Jalen’s roommate during university days before life took them in different directions.Jalen gestured toward the side cabinet. “What do you want to drink? Water? Juice? Something cold?”Chuka shook his head firmly.

  • Chapter 155: A War on Two Fronts

“This one you’re calling now after weeks of nothing,” Tiana’s voice came low and unhappy over the line. “It better be something good.”On the other end, Elena chuckled softly, her tone rich with ease. “Apologies, my dear. Jalen has been… a little difficult to pin down. But not to worry. I’ve crossed the first stage.”Tiana’s brow arched. She turned in her chair, one leg crossing over the other. “First stage? What exactly are you talking about?”Her excitement was like spilled wine; quick, staining everything it touched. “I got him to fall for me, Tiana. We’ve already had lunch together. Twice, in fact. We talked. We laughed. We even planned to see again soon. He trusts me now.”Tiana’s lips curved slowly, satisfaction dripping from her expression. “Good. Very good. But don’t get carried away. Lunches and laughter are child’s play. What I need is blood from his veins, not just his smile.""You must get close enough to strip his empire bare. I want access to Adesins Corporation from the

  • Chapter 154: Aisha Finds Out

The glass walls of the Adesins Corporation office reflected the bright afternoon sun, casting streaks of gold across the polished floors. Jalen stepped quickly out of the elevator, his wristwatch showing ten minutes past the hour. He adjusted his jacket, inhaled deeply, and pushed the conference room door open.Inside, the CEO of Ceprod Group, Mr. Richard Callahan, was already seated. Tall, broad-shouldered, with a presence that carried the weight of decades in business, Richard’s cool grey eyes lifted to meet Jalen’s. He did not rise, but the faint tightening around his mouth said everything: he wasn’t pleased.“I’m sorry I’m late,” Jalen said immediately, moving forward with an extended hand. “Traffic on the express was brutal.”Richard’s handshake was firm, but his voice was measured. “Punctuality is the backbone of every partnership, Mr. Adesina. A late man can cost millions.”Jalen gave a small, respectful nod and gestured for him to continue. “You’re right, and it won’t happen

“So, to what do I owe this—” Jalen gestured with his hand, his brows raised as though he already knew the answer but wanted to hear it from her lips. “This meeting?” He lifted his glass of wine and took a sip, his voice calm but laced with impatience.Across from him, Elena’s face dimmed slightly. The sparkle in her eyes faltered. “You need to calm down, prince charming,” she said softly, leaning back in her chair with elegance that looked rehearsed.Jalen dropped his glass on the table gently and tilted his head. “Do you have to keep calling me that? Prince charming?”She laughed lightly, brushing an imaginary strand of hair from her forehead. “Of course. That’s what you are to me. Don’t you see it?”He chuckled, shaking his head. “You women and your sweet words. You’ve not even told me about yourself, yet you already branded me royalty.”“Exactly why we’re here,” Elena said, her smile tugging wider. “First, let’s get to know each other.”“Fine,” Jalen said, folding his arms. “Tell m

  • Chapter 152: The Distraction

Jalen parked his SUV neatly in front of Adesins Corporation headquarters. Fiona, his assistant, quickly gathered the files in her lap and slid them into her bag. Jalen was about to step out when a Toyota Camry swerved behind them, stopping with such force it almost hit the rear of his car.“What the hell is this nonsense?” Jalen thundered as he opened his door. His voice echoed across the compound, and two of the security men turned in alarm. He stormed towards the Camry, anger burning in his eyes. The driver’s door opened slowly. And then she stepped out. Tall. Fair. Effortlessly stunning. The same enchanting beauty that had unsettled him days ago.Jalen’s chest dropped, the anger in his face dissolving like mist under sunlight. He sighed, long and deep. “You again?”Fiona’s eyes widened. She looked at her boss, looked at the woman, and then looked back at Jalen. She had never seen him switch moods that fast. “Sir… you know her?” she asked cautiously, trying to mask the curiosity
