The Useless Waiter

"Hey, are you blind or something?" Darren heard someone speak, loudly in an angry voice.

He turned his head and saw a furious lady glaring at him furiously. He darted his eyes wondering why he was being shouted upon. He knew he hadn't done anything wrong so what was the lady glaring at him with a dagger look?

"Why are you staring at me? Your filthy shoulder touched my outfits and yet, you are still staring at me without apologizing." She hissed at him with disgust.

Darren's confused expression was so apparent and all he wanted to do was to just quickly apologize to the lady, as he knew he would be done if the issue escalated.

He was only working as a waiter at the restaurant as he needed to earn a living, so if a problem occurs just because of this lady, then he doesn't know what he will end up doing.

It would be so devastating if such a small issue resulted in him being dismissed. He won't even know what to do if it escalates."

Without wasting time, he quickly spoke up. "Ma'am, I don't know what I did to offend you, but please do accept my apology." He said, with the hope that the lady would stop this whole argument.

Upon hearing Darren's apologies, the lady frowned even more. "Are you insinuating that I'm at fault and you are in the right?" She asked,

Darren, who was getting frustrated, didn't know what else to do other than to explain, so he spoke calmly. "Ma'am I am sorry if you get me wrong, it's never my intention to blame you for being at fault."

The lady doesn't look like she was cajoled by Darren's words, instead, she was infuriated with disgust. "Just shut up! Are you now trying to say I'm blaming you unnecessarily? You are just a trashless idiot and yet, you have the guts to talk to me in such a way." She shouted with her vein popping out.

Her loud voice suddenly attracted a lot of the customers' attention to them. With their eyes glued on them, Darren fell into distress, as he wondered how to get himself out of this mess.

"Your worth isn't more than a trash bin, after all, you're nobody but a mere waiter here." Her ridiculed expression was so obvious as she rolled her eyes.

Hearing all that the lady has said to him, Darren was trying his best to remain calm, as he cooled his nerves down. He breathed in and out before speaking in a more calm voice. "Ma'am, this issue isn't worth all this and I feel we can settle amicably. That's…" he was interrupted uprightly before he could complete his words.

"How are you going to be able to settle this?" Her question wasn't asked politely, instead, it was out of anger. It was obvious from her eyes that she doesn't care to listen.

Darren paused to look at her seething expression. "I'll use a clean towel to wipe the place I touched and then, it won't be a problem again." His eyes showed that he was expecting the lady's temper to have cooled down, but seeing her expression now shows that she was even angry.

"You want to use your worthless hands on me again? You sure won't try such a thing!" She warned with a bad glare.

" Would the clean towel permanently remove all traces of you ever having skin-to-skin contact with my shoulder? No, just tell me, would it?" She asked. " Of course, I know you would surely have no answer to it, so since you have no answer just keep shut!"

Every single customer watching didn't even care to settle the dispute, instead, they just sat back and started watching the argument as a drama.

An unwavering headache came on Darren, as he felt speechless as to how to deal with this lady. It seems utterly useless trying to even please the lady. He just doesn't know exactly what's else to do. All he knows is that he must specify this lady by all means possible. Just when he was about to explain again, a short man walked up to them.

"What's going on here?" The short man asked. He was the manager of the restaurant.

Hearing the question, Darren quickly wanted to explain, but the lady beat him to it, as she hurriedly spoke with anger. "Ask this stupid Walter! He dared to lay his useless hand on me, and he's still trying to act all innocent." She raised her voice high, as she spoke.

"This restaurant sure doesn't know the right workers to employ. How can you employ a senseless man, who doesn't know how to behave in front of customers!" She yelled loudly.

" I felt completely disgusted, just by even remaining his skin contact on mine. This restaurant disappointed me by employing such a thing."

The manager frowned upon hearing the lady's words. "How dare you try such a thing with a customer! Do you want me to lose a customer just because of your tangled life?" He didn't hold back in rebuking Darren right in front of everyone.

Darren felt completely embarrassed, but right now he was more concerned about hoping that this whole issue was wandering after him in a bad way.

"You are so dumb and inefficient in your work. I don't think it would be better if you continue working here, so from now on, you are relieved from your job." He prefers chasing someone like Darren than losing a worthy customer like the lady.

Daren felt disheartened hearing the manager's partial words. Although he knew his manager did treat him as a useless thing, what he never expected was to be sacked just because of this issue that was never intentional.

He just doesn't want to lose his only means of income just like that so he wanted to plead to the manager, but before he could even say a word, the manager walked away leaving him alone.

When the lady saw the anguish and distrain in Darren's eyes, she sneered. "Useless poor waiter, move away! She kicked him aside as she went back to her table to continue having her meal.

Unwavering distress and pain erupt from Darren's eyes as he stood still on the spot. He was just completely downcasted. With a solemn expression, Darren received a call and when he checked the caller ID, it was from his mother-in-law.

An astonished expression bewildered Darren's earlier distressed face. He was completely surprised as to why his mother inlaw took the initiative to call him for the first time since he got into their family.

With a perplexed look, he checked the screen once more before picking up the call. "Hello, mother-in-law."

"Come home, right now." The caller said and immediately the call got disconnected.

Daren was once again surprised. He was astounded because when he called her mother-in-law, she didn't rebuke him nor did she scold him.

He was beyond amazed and flabbergasted!

However, he was at the same time confused as to why she called him to come home right now.

Although he had some questions in him, he didn't brood over it for long, instead, he left the restaurant without informing anyone since he was already sacked.

When he got to the Rowland mansion, he felt a little strange as he began hearing some low moans coming from inside. The atmosphere felt off as he approached his apartment door. He hoped it was just his imagination playing tricks on him, but the strange moans coming from inside made his heart race.

However, he ignored his thoughts and stepped forward into the apartment.

With every step he took, the anxiety grew, and he tried to convince himself that he was overthinking things. Maybe the neighbors were having a wild party or the TV was left on, he thought. Yet, as he opened the door, the moans became more distinct, unmistakably human, coming from the living room.

Dread enveloped him as he walked further into the apartment, hoping against hope that he was wrong. But the sounds were undeniable now, and they pierced through him like a dagger to his heart. Each footstep felt heavier than the last as he approached the living room.

When he got into the living room, he saw the most shocking thing that he had never imagined in his life. His wife was entangled with a man on the couch!
