"You dare to feed me Dragon Blood?"

The voice that was emanating out of the mouth of Sarah was not hers. It was like banging embers and boiling fires. It was ancient. Divine. Terrifying.

Her hand was choking Alex on the throat.

Alex choked and his feet were hanging inches above the floor. His eyesight was grayed out.

He was the Dragon King. He was able to smash tanks with bare hands. He had survived nuclear explosions and came out of the epicenter. But right now, he was helpless.

The reason the hand that was crushing his windpipe was that of the woman he loved more than life itself.

"Sarah..." With a strangle Alex choked out, scratching at her using his nails. "It's... me."

"Lies!" she shrieked.

BOOM!

A wave of heat burst out of her body. The bed-clothes immediately became ashes. The costly mahogany wardrobe was set on fire. The tragic force of her aura broke the reinforced windows open.

There was, at the back of her, a flicker into existence of a gigantic, screaming avian creature of crimson fire. The Phoenix.

The Dragon Blood that Alex possessed was pure Yang energy. It was fire. He had not only healed her body by feeding it to her to give her her life. He had accidentally stirred up some thing that was sleeping in the depths of her blood. Something that detested Dragons.

She threw him.

Alex shot across the room resembling a ragdoll and smashed into the distant wall. Plaster and brick fell down upon him and covered him with debris.

"Cough!" Alex spit and a glob of blood.

He attempted to get on his feet, but his legs were trembling. Blood Transfer Ritual had cost him half his strength. He felt weak. Dizzy.

Sarah floated off the bed. There was a fierce, predatory light blazing in her eyes which were shining red slits. Her hair was gravity defying and it hung round her head like a halo of fire.

She raised her hand. On her palm of hand a ball of fire the size of a basketball appeared. It whirled with heat to fright.

"Die, Dragon," she hissed.

WHOOSH!

She threw the fireball.

Alex rolled himself to the side and was slow in moving.

CRASH!

The spot where he was standing a moment ago was struck by the fireball. The wall melted. Melted away, almost literally, like hot wax.

"Sarah! Stop!" Alex screamed, and avoided another volley of fire that burned off his eyebrows. "Look at me! Look at my face! I am your husband!"

She didn't hear him. The Phoenix instinct was quite in full blast. Alex just was a competitor, a predator to her. One of a Dragon attempting to smother her Phoenix fire.

She screamed--and made the glass in the picture frames on the wall break.

She lunged at him.

She was fast. Swifter than she had been as a human being. She was going in a cultivator fashion.

Before she had a chance to rip his eyes open Alex got hold of her wrists. Her skin was burning hot. It was as though I were holding molten iron.

"Let go!" she shrieked, kicking in his arms.

"I won't!" The agonizing pain was large and Alex gritted his teeth. His palms were burning, and the odour of flesh was in the air. I vowed never to lose you again!

She headbutted him.

CRACK.

Alex's nose broke. Blood was streaming down his face, making him blind in one of the eyes.

He stumbled back, dazed.

She took out a long piece of broken glass on the floor. It was red with her heat, and made a sort of a dagger.

She raised it high.

"Die!"

She lowered it into his heart.

Alex didn't dodge.

He didn't block.

Should he thrust aside, he could injure her with the rest of his Dragon power. She would attack him again and again but only spend more life force in case he escaped.

And what he could do he did.

He opened his arms.

SHINK.

The piece of glass had plunged inside his shoulder. Deep. it cut on his collarbone and ripped through flesh and bone.

Blood--his golden Dragon Blood--smeared upon her face.

The room went silent.

The fire that enclosed them flickered and was dim.

Sarah froze. The glass shard in his flesh was still clinging to the hand of her. She was panting heavily. Her red eyes gazed at the golden blood on her fingers in bewilderment over the warmth.

She looked up at his face.

Alex was bleeding. His nose was broken. His shoulder was impaled. His skin was burned.

But he was smiling.

Hi, said Alex and his voice was harsh with pain and smooth as a breath. "Are you... back?"

The red light of her eyes shook. The vertical slits widened. The ghost Phoenix who was behind her screeched once again, and disappeared in smoke.

Her eyes turned brown. Soft, beautiful, human brown.

"A... Alex?" she whispered. Her voice was small. Terrified.

She gazed through the glass she was holding. She stared at the blood upon his grey coat.

"Oh god..." She snatched her hand back as though it were burnt. "Alex! What... what did I do? Why am I holding this? Why are you bleeding?"

Tears welled up in her eyes. She put her hands on his face, and her hands were trembling.

It is all right, Alex replied, and she caught her hand and kissed her palm, not even thinking of the blood. "It's just a scratch. I've had worse shaving."

"You... you came back..." she wept, and threw herself into his breast. "You really came back..."

Alex hugged her tight. He had felt complete, in five years in a row. It was nothing to the warmth of her body in his arms, compared with the pain in his shoulder.

Here, I am here, he told her, in her hair. "I'm never leaving you again."

She leaned her head on his neck, and shivered. Then, suddenly, she stiffened.

"Run..."

Alex froze. "What?"

She looked up. Her eyes were dreadful and wide. The dark color was wearing away, flickering the red. She held fast on to his coat and her nails tore into it.

"Run, Alex! You have to run!"

"Why?" Alex requested, holding her by the shoulders to support her. "Sarah, what's wrong?"

He... he is here, she gasped, and pointed a tremulous finger at her own head. The Master... he is not just watching. He planted a seed... in my mind."

She cried out in agony, with her hand all around her head, like it was opening.

"He knows!" she cried out. "He knows you are here! He knows you are weak! He is coming for the harvest!"

BOOM!

Beyond the villa, there was cracking of thunder.

Never mind; five minutes ago there were no clouds in the sky.

Alex peeped through the broken window.

The city sky had gone pure black. Not black as night, but black as unnatural, storming ink. It whumped like a living sea of darkness.

The villa was overwhelmed by a huge pressure. The seriousness was ten times greater in a minute. The furniture broke in upon it. The floor groaned.

It wasn't just a storm. It was a Domain.

A Cultivator's Domain.

"He found us," Alex whispered.

He looked down at Sarah. She had fainted in his arms, worn out fighting the instinct of the Phoenix.

He put her down lightly on the ground, out of the windows.

He stood up. He extended his hand and grabbed the piece of glass that was protruding out of his shoulder.

GRUNT.

He ripped it out.

He threw aside the bloody glass. This took too long, too long, to heal his shoulder. The golden light was dim. He had lost too much power.

He went up to the window and examined the black sky.

"So," Alex said to the darkness. You have finally decided to make a show of yourself.

Some booming voice shook in the clouds. It was a great thousand screaming souls together.

"DRAGON KING."

It was the voice that trembled at the very base of the house. The floor glass vibrated.

"YOU STOLE MY VESSEL. YOU DISRUPTED MY RITUAL. AND NOW, YOU ARE WEAK."

The black clouds took a giant shape in the form of a face. It was monumental, and it enclosed the whole city block. There were two green eyes lit as with rotting stars, gazing down at the little villa.

It was the Master.

"HAND OVER THE GIRL. AND I WILL LET YOU DIE QUICKLY."

Alex laughed.

He was bleeding. He was tired. He was half his cultivation gone.

Nevertheless, he remained the Dragon King.

He moved onto the balcony, where the wind was blowing his ragged coat about him. He gazed up upon the vast face in the sky.

He raised his middle finger.

"Come and get her," Alex roared. "If you dare!"
