Darius felt much better with himself as he watched other cars pass by the ones he was in. A little while later he heard a loud growl from his stomach. It was protesting that he had not eaten since the previous day. ‘Calm down, almost there. Things are going to be so much better now.’

He picked up his phone and called the hospital. He wanted to check up on his mother and see if she was faring well. A nurse picked the call and assured him that the surgery had been completed successfully and that his mother was resting. He told the nurse he wanted to speak with his mother so the nurse took the directed the call to his mother’s bed.

“Hello mum, how are you doing?” There was a tone of worry in his voice. He heard a low chuckle as his mother replied him weakly.

“I’m doing well Darry, you don’t have to keep calling me everytime.” *cough* She paused and swallowed. She sounded weak and tired.

“The doctors have performed the surgery on me. I’m feeling much better but I need to rest. I hope you’re doing okay?”

Darius chuckled in reply. “Don’t worry mum. Just rest easy. I’ll explain everything when you’re much better. Just focus on your recovery mum. I’ll check up on you later.”

“Alright, take care son. Be safe.”

He terminated the call and then sighed with relief. His mother had been able to undergo the surgery successfully and all that was needed was rest.

Considering everything that had happened today, he began to wonder why his mother would keep such information about her family secret from him all these years. ‘Well, she might have had a good reason. I’ll just ask her about it when she recovers.’

‘As for that damned man...’ Darius’ anger suddenly surged again as he thought about what he would use to payback what his father and his stepmother for what they did to him.

He just had to call down, the situation would present itself when the time was right. He could just lick his wounds and lie in wait. He would make all those who had looked down on him pay!

It was at this time that the taxi stopped in front of a fancy gate. This was where the address had led him to but he needed guidance to reach the villa itself so he came down from the taxi and paid the fare.

He approached the men in uniform who were seated at the small room beside the gate to ask them to help him. They noticed him before he got to them and then they stopped him.

“Hey, stop right there! Where are you going to? I think you’re lost” one of the men with a stout body and scruffy beard said to him. Contempt written all over his face.

Darius was a little taken aback but he regained his focus and replied the man. “I need directions to one of the villas here.”

“Yeah right, like someone of your caliber has any business here.” Another man with a lean body and light brown hair replied him. “Why don’t you scurry back to where you came from like a rat you are.” He said as he wrinkled his nose in annoyance.

Now Darius was confused. Why were this people treating him this way? It wasn’t like he had met them before and so they had no reason to antagonise him this way. He simply wanted to ask for directions.

It was then that he looked at the other people who passed by him to enter the gate. They were either properly dressed or they wore luxurious clothes and accessories. He wasn’t dressed like them, he looked at his clothes.

He was wearing a simple shirt and trouser with a pair of sandals at his feet. He was obviously very different from the other people who came to this area. But what could he do? He had lost his house and it wasn’t like he could afford proper clothes. And all the ones he had were all worn out and out out of style.

It was just based on this that the men reacted negatively to him and they weren’t friendly at all. The lean man that had first spoken talked to him again.

“If you don’t know where you’re headed to, get the hell out here. Can’t you see that you’re causing a disturbance just by standing here? Crawl back to the hole or wherever you came from...”

It was at this moment that a car that was driving by stopped and a gorgeous woman came down from the car and approached. When the three men saw her they immediately stoop up and were greeting her with bright smiles on their faces. They were obviously boot lickers.

The woman wore a blue dress that hugged her figure, accentuating her perfect figure. She had black curly hair and a fair face that made men mesmerized by her beauty. Even Darius gulped when she suddenly turned to face him.

Immediately one of the men remembered that Darius was still there and yelled at him. “Get out of here you pauper. You stain this place with your presence..”

Before he could continue the woman’s gaze turned sharp and she cut the man short from completing his words with a hint of anger in her voice. “What did you just say?”

The man turned his face to her and replied. “He’s just a stray ma’am, he came her some minutes ago and won’t leave. I was trying to get him away from here ma’am.”

She glared at the man angrily. “What the hell are you saying, that man is my friend. Are you so dumb that you’ll insult him just because of the way he looks? He’s my guest and he was trying to get directions to my house.”

The men paled with an expression of horror on their face and they started pleading and begging Darius for mercy. Darius was also in a shock but he didn’t show it and just played along with the strange woman. He shrugged like they were worth nothing in his eyes.

The woman invited him into her car and drove away with him.
