Chapter one

Devon POV:

*Night time* Father barged in, causing the door to hit against the wall.

"Luke!" Mother exclaims in shock and clutches her chest.

Father goes through some of our things and his. "Where is the suitcase that I kept here?!" he shouts in fright.

"Luke what is going on?!" Mother asked Father.

"I can't explain right now. I beg of you. Just tell me where the suitcase is. Please!" Father shouts in mother's face, shaking her back and forth with his hands on her shoulders.

"Luke I don't know what you are talking about. Why are you so desperate? What happened?" Mother asked, worriedly.

Father lets go of her. "No! No-no-no. We are doomed!" Father said, squeezing his hair, resulting in the skin of his forehead being stretched back.

I hold on tight to my mother's hand. "Mommy. What is wrong with daddy?" I ask her.

"Don't worry son. Everything is going to be fine." Mother said to me.

Father stops in his tracks. His eyes search in the room we called a house.

"We have to run..." Father said, almost in a whisper.

"What?!" Mother exclaims.

"Susan. It's the Wilsons. I got in trouble with the Wilsons! We have to get out of this city or else they will kill us!" Father shouts.

"Luke! Why?! I told you not to get involved with them! See what you have done?! We have a son for crying out loud!" Mother screams as she drops punches on Father's chest and cries at the same time.

Father grabs her hands.

"This is no time for tears! Take only what is needed. We need to run!" Father said.

Mother lifts me into her arms as father searches about and throws some things into a bag.

"Luke Nelson!" Someone shouts my father's name from outside and we hear a gunshot after.

Father freezes in fear.

"Luke what was that?!" Mother fearfully asked.

"We are too late. They are here!" Father said, tears filling up his eyes and pouring down.

"Come. Hide under the bed." Father whispers to me and Mother.

Mom pushes me deep under the bed till my skin touches the wall. She also enters after me. Almost seconds later, footsteps sound loudly in the room.

"Mrs. Wilson... It's such a surprise you chose to visit me at this hour." Father said.

One could sense his nervousness from miles away.

"Luke Nelson. What an unpleasant surprise." a woman's voice sounds.

"Where is my suitcase?!" she yells.

"Ma'am please forgive me. I... couldn't find it." Father replied.

"You mean you lost it?!" the woman shouts.

"I... I... I swear it wasn't on purpose ma'am. I swear I will pay you back! Please don't kill me!" Father begs.

"That was two point five million dollars. Even your poverty-driven soul can never replace it." the woman said.

"Shoot him dead," she adds.

"Ahhh!" Mother screams from under the bed.

I watched from the open space in the clothes as my mother was dragged out.

"What do we have here?" the woman asked. "I heard you also have a son. Where is he?" the woman asked.

Father and mother didn't answer her question.

I saw a leg kneel and then the second leg. After that, a woman's face becomes visible to me. She looks upwards then down. Unable to find me, she gets back up. I remain shivering in fear. I have no clue what is taking place but I knew it wasn't good and I had to stay put.

I hear gunshots after and dropping sounds on the floor. Hot tears escape my eyes.

"Let's head out." the woman said and I hear people walking out.

After some time, I crawl out from under the bed and stood on my feet. I saw my parents lying on the floor and covered in blood.

"Mom?" I say, touching her face. her eyes were still open. She coughs up more blood.

"Son... Go to Francis' place." Mother struggles to say.

"Uncle Francis?" I ask her.

"Yes. Uncle Francis. Go now." Mother said.

"Is mommy okay?" I ask her.

"Yes. We will be fine dear. Just go. I will come for you tomorrow." she told me.

"promise?" I asked her.

"I promise," she answered.

If there was a place I knew the way to on my own, it was uncle Francis' house. I was born with a great memory. That was probably why I never forgot what took place. I was five back then and wasn't that educated to know what gunshots and bleeding parents meant.

Mother never came back for me and uncle Francis, who was also poor, adopted me.

I woke up from sleep and wiped off my sweat with the rag I had kept beside my mat. This dream never surprised me and no longer scared me. And I know that it will keep repeating itself until vengeance is served.

As I grew older, the grudge I held against the Wilsons, all the hatred, and all my inward madness grew with me.

I never forgot that face I saw peep at me while I lay hidden under the bed. Don't ask me why I didn't reveal things to the right authorities after I got older. Firstly, there wasn't any investigation done at all. Secondly' I was sure that the police or whatever they are called, had no power over the Wilsons.

If I speak up then they will come after me.

I chose an easy way to get into their home and also hurt their ego at the same time. The Wilsons have three children of their own. Alex Wilson, Xavier Wilson, and Tamira Wilson. What better than to get her to tie the knot with me?

Winning her heart and adding a bit of dirt to their name. No billionaire will be happy to give away their daughter to a poor man. I have monitored and studied her lifestyle and the kind of men she dates. She feels hostility toward show-offs and that is why I have chosen to come into her life as a poor but humble man.

My name is Devon Nelson and this is the story of how I became the billionaire that I am today and crushed everyone else who ever under-estimated me.
