Chapter 3

Everyone in the room screamed desperately for help, but Luca wouldn't let them.

His only thought was 'kill' as he watched them explode one by one, and as a flood of blood filled the rusted examination room, it was then that Luca realized he was in New York's main underground laboratory.

That was where Luca had toiled alongside his mentor, and Luca could only smile sarcastically, realizing that even his workplace had backstabbed him.

Despite the slogan "We Are a Family of Great Government Scientists" hanging on the wall, it seemed they never truly accepted Luca from the start, and they must have felt a moment of gratitude for being able to exploit Luca's stupidity to banish him, along with the only mentor who had stood by him.

"So, they just collected what was left of my genes, revived me with some experimental drug compounds, and ran more drug tests, huh?" Luca read the paper he had snatched from the headless scientist's hands.

“So, after Professor Silas and I died from the poison, the government immediately started looking for a replacement head, and it turned out to be this madman? All the scientists here are the same people who used to oppose me, and I should have known their insidiousness from how easily they let Lisa in. Lisa and Daniel must have researched this lab so they knew about the poison gas project and could act as heroes…”

Luca randomly threw the information sheet into the pool of blood.

“Well, it seems whatever they did to me worked pretty well. My body feels fine, and I feel more immortal now, I didn’t even want to be born with this special mutated blood…” Luca said, watching the bruise on his wrist quickly fade.

As Luca searched for clothes, deciding to reach into the dead scientist’s lab coat, his eyes fell on the bed beside him, which was covered in a white blanket.

There was Professor Silas’s name on his rotting big toe, and as Luca was about to touch it, a glowing blue light appeared, revealing a blue tablet. Luca frowned as it reminded him of the lab’s database system, and he recoiled at the sound.

[Hello, Luca. My name is LOL System, and you are currently in the game.]

[You are now not only a Kane with special blood, but also a superhuman. But you are currently very poor, penniless, and nothing more than a John Doe. Don't you want to do something to change that?]

“Money? What can I do if my life is already so ruined?” Luca sneered, looking around his bloodied corpses work. “There's CCTV upstairs, and sooner or later the police will come to handcuff me. I can't even fix my life when I get out.”

[You can still change your fate. It's never too late. All you have to do is say the word 'delete,' the same way you say the word 'kill' in your head.]

The machine spoke.

“Wait, what does LOL mean?” Luca interrupted as the machine began to dim.

[It's just a simple LOL phrase, the laughter of life?]

[Just like a laboratory. The humans of this world are like guinea pigs trapped in a glass aquarium, until someone realizes they can actually be rulers, and even rule outside the glass aquarium.]

[Okay, time's up and it's time for me to go. Just tell that girl if you want to make a deal, but I'm sure you'll want to give her your clothes before you say yes. Unless you're hoping for something more.]

Then, all the tablets vanished, and before they completely disappeared, Luca saw the word 'trial' appear on the screen.

A groan echoed through the blue light emanating from Professor Silas's covered body, and rising from the bed was… a very attractive blonde woman in her 20s.

“What the—” Luca's eyes widened at the sight of the naked woman.

“Are you my new master? Master Luca Kane?” the girl asked with a yawn. She stared at her bare breasts, and realizing the situation, Luca stripped off his clothes before searching for new clothes, which turned out to be the most blood soaked.

The girl was like a baby fresh out of her mother's womb. She had no memories, no knowledge of how to dress, and all she could do was talk.

Ava. That was the only name Luca had access to, and when he asked for more information about the LOL game, she immediately shook her head. 

She refused to speak unless he agreed to participate.

“A—Ackh…!!”

“Sorry!” Luca stuttered as he accidentally pressed too hard on the girl's chest while buttoning her shirt. He had done this to Lisa before when Asher was born, but he still felt it was wrong to do it to another woman.

Luca felt this was very wrong.

"Done, you're ready to jump now. Now let's get out of here," Luca said, extending his hand.

Luckily, the girl accepted his hand and was able to walk. "I'll burn this place down first since it looks like someone witnessed us. There's no need to get your hands dirty since you're innocent here."

Luca said before muttering the word "kill" in his head as he saw a black shadow run through the door.
