Chapter 2

“Okay, I have to go now! Honey? Can you and the men over there throw this rotting corpse into the center zone? I think the chemicals are going to explode now, and we have to leave!” Daniel said.

Luca's eyes widened as Lisa confirmed Daniel's words and ordered the laborers to carry his decomposing body to the center of the high mutation zone.

Luca struggled, trying to free himself, but Lisa stabbed him in the neck with a syringe. It was the same syringe Luca had given her for protection in case a bad guy threatened her during the mutation, and it turned out that bad guy was herself.

Luca howled as they threw him into the center zone, and the green gas melted his skin quickly.

“I'm so sorry, Luca. I hope you'll forgive me,” Lisa said in a low voice.

“I will pray for your peace, and I hope God grants you an easy death. You will find someone much better in the next life, and I hope you don’t love me again, because I always hated you, Luca Kane. You always made me so upset, and I should have lived happily with Daniel,” she finished, before turning and leaving.

Luca could barely hear her because his left ear had melted, and now his left eye too.

The high mutation zone was too severe for Kane’s blood to heal him, and when Luca tried to call for help, he only coughed wetly.

His throat had completely rotted away. All around him was gas, and Luca cried, realizing he was doomed.

He had only tried to be a good husband, a faithful husband when his wife gave him the chance to love her. Luca thought he should have listened to his mentor, when Lisa suddenly became very kind and asked to see his lab.

In Luca's laboratory, there was a sophisticated government biological weapon that Luca had implanted with his own blood, but out of loyalty and not wanting to further alienate his wife, Luca let her in.

He let his wife in despite the warnings of his chief scientist, his only mentor in life, and now Luca would spend the rest of his life mourning his death.

"In the end, no matter what I do, I'll never be enough for her, huh?"

"I abdicated, defending and challenging my father because he rejected her, and Lisa became even more inferior because of it. I, the Kane heir, humbled myself and sentenced everyone who had been faithful to me to death. If I had another chance at life, I should have also struck Daniel down during the Sorella family battle. Lisa's family business wouldn't have even grown this big without my help, and Lisa was always worried about Daniel getting hurt..."

Later, as the gas leak intensified, Luca closed his remaining eye as his breathing became increasingly labored.

His nostrils had also rotted away, and Luca finally breathed his last as his mind began to blur.

The tinkling from his remaining ring finger is heard as the wind blew away the remains of his body, and his wedding ring to Lisa is the only thing on the ground now, before it too decayed and disappeared.

Luca opened his eyes as the sound of a saw rang out, and the first thing he saw was himself being stabbed by an old man who looked like a mad scientist.

Luca coughed up a large amount of blood, and the old man laughed hysterically as applause rang out around him.

“Look! My masterpiece, the corpse has just been reanimated! The medicine worked, and now he’s alive and mine!! He’s now my pet and my slave!!” he shouted, and Luca stared at him in utter confusion.

Luca felt something cold but hard press down on his back, and when he tried to move, he found his hands and feet tied.

Many hands held him in place as he struggled, and Luca’s ears rang from the pressure.

He tried to free himself, but was hit on the head, and when he tried to scream, something hard and long was shoved into his mouth.

Something electrical ran through his body as the object was inserted, and somehow Luca suddenly felt a surge of power surge through him.

[System activated.]

[The master has been chosen, and his power will now surpass human capabilities. Stay away from this place if you wish to live.]

“What the hell—What do you mean the master has been chosen?! Shouldn’t I be the master here?! This bastard owes me a favor because I saved him, and he should—”

Something sharp stabbed into Luca’s temples, and memories of him and Lisa suddenly replayed in his mind like a broken record.

It weighed even more on Luca’s already exhausted body as he remembered how he died, and as he realized that even though he was saved, he still had to grovel for someone, Luca suddenly felt a surge of anger.

He was furious at his own fate: having to deal with the Sorella family and now having to deal with a group of mad scientists who wanted to exploit his body.

Luca’s anger only intensified as the television came on, and when the scene of Lisa and Daniel’s wedding was shown, and Daniel said that he had just saved the world by simply spraying the drug his family was developing into a high mutation zone to stop the gas… Luca’s eyes suddenly turned red.

The machines beside Luca vibrated violently, and the mad scientist frowned as he heard Luca's rapid heartbeat on the monitor.

“Huh? Why is he acting like this? Is he broken?” the mad scientist muttered as he checked the monitor. “We can still sell him at auction for a high price. I heard Sorella is looking for contaminated corpses to test on and—” CRASH!

The mad scientist's head exploded upon Luca's words.

The atmosphere in the lab became tense as blood gushed from his severed neck before his body fell, and everyone screamed, realizing the danger come from Luca, their guinea pig.

[The system is fully activated, and the master within the program is Luca Kane.]

The system spoke before it died. Luca's eyes glowed red, and the man already knew who his next target was.
