LYON POV
"Lyon, brother, please look at what we brought you!" Connie Darlington forced a high-pitched, sweet laugh as she set a silver-wrapped gift box onto the small wooden coffee table near the front entrance.
Lyon sat motionless in his wheelchair by the window, his gaze focused on the scrolling medical code on his tablet. He did not turn his head. He did not utter a single word of greeting.
Lydia Darlington smoothed her designer dress with hands that shook slightly, her face pale beneath her heavy makeup. She stepped closer to his chair, attempting a warm, caring smile that looked unnatural on her features. "We know things got heated at the banquet yesterday, Lyon. Father was just stressed about business. Mother hasn't slept all night because she misses you so much. The house feels completely empty without you."
Lyon adjusted his left wrist position against the armrest. "You have ninety seconds remaining."
Connie’s artificial smile cracked instantly, a flash of her usual venom surfacing before she managed to suppress it. "We came here out of the goodness of our hearts! We know you're struggling in this small apartment. Father is willing to let you come back to the main estate as a senior technical consultant. You will have your own room again, a monthly allowance of twenty thousand dollars, and full access to the family driver!"
"You just need to sign a small technical waiver for the new neural patent," Lydia added quickly, leaning down until her breath smelled sour in Lyon's space. "Just sign off as the original creator so the banks can unfreeze our operating funds. We are family, Lyon. Family always forgives."
Lyon reached out with a single finger, tapping the spacebar on his black laptop resting on the side desk.
The screen flickered to life, displaying a high-definition live surveillance feed of the Darlington Group’s central distribution warehouse in the northern industrial zone. On the split screen beside the video, thousands of red financial figures rapidly descended to zero as automated cancellation notices flooded the screen.
"What is that?" Connie frowned, stepping toward the desk. "Why are you showing us our warehouse?"
"That is Logistics Hub Four," Lyon said softly. His voice lacked any pitch or inflection. "At nine-fifteen this morning, the Apex Medical Group secured the regional distribution contract. The Darlington Group lost seventy percent of its daily fulfillment revenue three minutes ago."
Lydia gasped, grabbing the edge of the desk as her face drained of color. "How? We had an exclusive five-year agreement with the provincial health ministry! No one knew our bidding threshold!"
"You left your unencrypted administrative credentials saved on my shared network drive four years ago," Lyon said. He did not look up at her. "I used your exact system parameters to structure Apex's counter-proposal yesterday afternoon."
"You... you sabotaged us?" Connie shrieked, her face twisting in pure rage as she raised her hand to slap him. "You ungrateful cripple! We fed you! We gave you a roof over your head when you were useless!"
Lancelot stepped silently out from the adjacent kitchenette, his massive frame blocking Connie instantly. He grabbed her wrist in mid-air with a grip like iron, forcing her backward until she stumbled over her own heels.
Lyon shifted the push-rims of his wheelchair, pivoting smoothly toward the door.
"You called me a parasite for eighteen years while I kept the lights on," Lyon said calmly as he rolled past them toward the open hallway. "The lights are off now."
"Lyon! Come back here! You can't do this to us!" Lydia screamed, her voice cracking as she chased him into the hallway, only for Lancelot to slam the heavy oak door directly in her face with a deafening bang.
The impact echoed through the hallway as both sisters stood frozen outside, their faces pale and wet with tears of absolute panic.
Ten minutes later, the black sedan carried Lyon through the rear gates of the Metropolitan Central Hospital complex. Mandolin sat in the front passenger seat, adjusting an encrypted satellite transmitter connected to a primary surgical suite on the top floor.
"The patient is Lord Harrison, the retired Chief Justice," Mandolin reported, turning his head back to Lyon. "The thoracic tumor is adhering to the C4 spinal nerve cluster. Every senior surgeon in the province refused the operation. They gave him a two percent survival rate."
"The risk is zero if the incision vector is angled at twelve degrees relative to the transverse process," Lyon said, his fingers rapidly entering structural coordinates into his mobile command unit.
They reached the private observation gallery overlooking Operating Room One. Through the double-paned glass, a full surgical team stood nervously around the unconscious patient.
Dr. Jessica stood at the primary surgical position, holding a specialized laser scalpel designed by Blackwood Medical. Her eyes were fixed on the wall monitor where Lyon's digital avatar appeared via secure feed.
A live, high-definition broadcast of the procedure was currently streaming to over twelve thousand chief medical officers across the continent.
"Director Blackwood, the patient's blood pressure is dropping," Jessica's voice came clearly through Lyon's earpiece. "The tumor sheath is fused to the main artery."
"Do not cut the sheath," Lyon commanded into his microphone, his voice smooth and devoid of stress. "Inject three cubic centimeters of the Blackwood neural stabilizer into the lateral border. Wait four seconds for tissue contraction."
Inside the operating theater, Jessica followed his instruction instantly.
The surrounding monitoring screens showed the dense tumor tissue immediately shrinking away from the vital artery, clearing a clean three-millimeter path.
"Proceed with micro-dissection along line B," Lyon ordered, his fingers tracking the live biological feedback metrics on his screen with mechanical precision. "Angle deep. Sweep right."
Thirty minutes passed in total, tense silence across the global medical feed.
"Tumor completely excised," Jessica announced, her voice trembling slightly with awe as she held up the intact mass. "Nerve function intact. Vital signs fully stable."
In the observation gallery above, three visiting hospital directors gasped aloud, dropping their notebooks onto the floor in sheer disbelief at the historic achievement.
"Flawless," one senior director whispered, staring at Lyon's calm profile in his wheelchair. "He guided a impossible spinal separation remotely without a single micro-millimeter of error!"
Lyon closed his tablet interface with a quiet click. He did not wait for the applause, rolling his chair back toward the private elevator before the surgical team even finished suturing the incision.
Two hours later, inside the high-rise board room of the Darlington Corporate Tower, emergency warning lights flashed red across the executive presentation displays.
Dean Darlington sat at the head of the long mahogany table, his face grey and sunken. Esther sat beside him, clutching her rosary beads with trembling hands.
Nathaniel stood near the window, his suit jacket off, his collar unbuttoned, and sweat dripping off his chin onto his expensive leather shoes.
"The board of directors has reached a final determination," the senior shareholder representative announced, standing up and laying a thick, signed legal decree onto the center of the table. "Effective immediately, all executive authority granted to Nathaniel Darlington is stripped."
"What?" Nathaniel slammed both hands onto the table, his eyes bloodshot. "You can't do this! I am the lead heir! I am marrying into the Vance family!"
"Jennifer Vance publicly broke her engagement with you forty minutes ago," the shareholder replied coldly, pointing a finger at the wall monitor displaying the live financial news feed. "Furthermore, the bank has seized your personal assets to cover the fraudulent patent purchase."
Dean Darlington slumped forward into his chair, his breathing ragged and shallow. For the first time in his life, his cold, arrogant eyes filled with absolute, overwhelming terror as he looked at the empty seat where Lyon used to sit during family meetings.
"Father..." Nathaniel whimpered, reaching out to touch Dean's arm. "Father, please, we can fix this..."
Dean pulled his arm away with violent disgust, staring at Nathaniel as if looking at a venomous snake. "Get away from me."
Before Nathaniel could respond, Dean’s encrypted desk phone began to ring with a harsh, piercing tone that filled the silent room.
Dean reached out with a shaking hand and hit the speaker button.
A deep, unfamiliar voice echoed through the boardroom speaker: "Mr. Darlington, the forensics team has just completed the DNA sequencing on the hair sample retrieved from your safe."
Dean’s heart hammered against his ribs. "What sequencing? What are you talking about?"
The caller paused for two seconds before delivering the final line: "Nathaniel Darlington possesses zero biological relationship to the Darlington bloodline. The real son you cast out was the only legitimate heir you ever had."
