Daxon Winter is the son in law of the Pierce family, one who is classified as a lowly, humble son in law who runs errands for the entire family. By his stripes, he is constantly burdened with the responsibility of doing every chore in the large house.

After working like a camel on a deserted journey yesterday night, Daxon found solace in his sleep for only a few hours when he felt freezing water being blasted upon him. In tremendous shock, he flees from the bed frantically, only to find his wife, Veronica, standing at the corner of the bed, with a lasting fury on her face.

As the spoiled and overindulged daughter of the Pierce family, Veronica has always been a rare beauty. It is very easy for one to become confounded to her just by the slope of her hourglass shape, her heavy bosom and siren eyes that could trap even the strongest of men.

Her skin is pale as porcelain and in the sun, it glistens like ravishing gold. However, this morning, there is nothing but damnation on her face as she looks down at Daxon, her husband whom she treats like a mere stranger.

“Veronica, what is the matter!?” Daxon asks, watching water drip from his shirt. There is also remorse on his face for his already depreciating bed that has been soaked by water.

“I should be asking you! How can you be asleep when all your mates are busy working in this early hour of the day?” Veronica laments, pointing a finger of disregard at him.

“Veronica, you threw a party yesterday and I spent all night cleaning after you and your friends.” He replies, stating the obvious, infact.

“Wow!” Veronica exclaims with a clap of her hands.

“Have you failed to realize that in this house you are the errand boy? Don’t you know cleaning up after the rest of the family is what you ought to do?”

“Now, listen! I want you to go to the market and get these!” Veronica says, flinging a piece of paper on the floor and also, an amount of money which she squeezed all together.

Daxon’s jaw tightens as he bends, he picks the money and paper from the floor. On the paper is a list of groceries and beauty supplies. As he stares at it, he wants to squeeze the paper until it becomes nothing but dust. Yesterday, he was up on his feet, running errands, to and fro for her spoiled friends.

He calculates the money and to his surprise, transportation fare isn’t a part of it.

“Please, Veronica, can’t this wait? I’m really tired from yesterday’s chores. I really need to rest. But if you really need it, can you at least give me a ride?” Daxon asks.

“What!?”

Veronica scoffs and Daxon is stopped from saying another word when she slams him. Again and again, she slams the bowl that she used to spill water on him without any sort of empathy that even animals would have.

Slap!

Daxon steps back in shock and holds his cheek that is throbbing like a heartbeat. He cannot fathom why Veronica is acting so spiteful in the early hours of the morning. It’s almost as if she wants him to leave the house.

“Veronica, you know I don’t have a vehicle! And the market is far from here. Why did you hit me when I asked for transportation?” Daxon demands an answer for her actions but Veronica simply rolls her eyes at him.

“Then, get a freaking car! Can’t you do that? Of course, you can’t! You are dirt poor like those beggars on the street!” Veronica says.

There is instant annoyance in her eyes and Daxon doesn’t recognize her anymore. They got married one year ago and it was only because Veronica wanted to prove to her friends that she could get any man she wanted. Daxon was basically the man at arms length and from a distance, she thought he would be hard to get.

However, he wasn’t but she loved how Daxon worshiped her and treated her like his prized possession but soon after, she began to hate him.

Veronica compared her friend's husband to Daxon and he was the opposite. Daxon didn’t have lavish cars or businesses, he only had money to buy her cheap, discounted items but she longed for the luxurious things of heaven and earth . So slowly, she began to hate him and it has prolonged to date.

“Is this because of that luxurious bag you wanted? I don’t have enough money…” Daxon says.

“You never have enough money Daxon, the beggar of the Pierce family! Why did I even marry you?”She says.

“I’m trying my best to be the husband you want, why can’t you see that?” Daxon asks.

“You live with your in-laws, you eat our food and spend our money.” Are you trying your best by spending all our money!? Veronica yells.

“Veronica…” Daxon tries to say.

“Just get out and do as I have told you! I don’t care if you take all eternity to get back.” Veronica screams, turning her back away from him and walking out of the room.

This is one of those days where he has to ponder about why Veronica married him. However, her combative behavior is a reoccurring event that Daxon has had to go through ever since they got married. He takes off his shirt and replaces it with another from the wardrobe.

A son in law who has the honor of a servant.

At this point, he has no other option but to ask his mother in-law, Agatha, for transportation fare to the market. He heads over to the sitting room where Agatha is present. Since Veronica won’t be able to give him a ride to the market, he tells Agatha that he may need a bit more money to take a cab.

“You need what? More cash for a cab?” Agatha asks.

“Yes, mother.” Daxon replies.

“If my daughter didn’t give you more, then, there isn't anything to give!” Agatha says with a smirk.

“It’s at least two hours by transportation...I won’t make it back home immediately.” Daxon says.

“Do you really think you have a say in what you are allowed to do in this house!? You are nothing but a poor piece of crap and as long as you live in this house, you will follow our orders!” His mother in law says, looking at him with disgust.

If he ever wondered why Veronica turned out like that, Agatha would be the answer.

In anger, Daxon storms out of the house and begins to trek the long distance. It is considered a severe punishment for one to use their feet to walk such a journey of a hundred miles. At 7pm, he returns home, and he is soaked in sweat, panting frantically and parched like a warrior who lost battle to his enemies.

Though, Daxon was able to arrive earlier than expected because he got a free ride. So, he sneaks into the backside of the house and leaves the groceries at a corner of the kitchen. He is beyond fatigued, he hasn’t eaten today, his feet are covered in dust and grimes

His entire body deserves rest.

Despite her condescending and vulgar tone, Daxon doesn’t like it when he argues with Veronica. So, despite the times where she’s wrong, he usually apologizes just to end the matter. Thus, being exhausted and wanting to relax his sore ankles. He heads toward Veronica’s room and knocks at the door.

There is no reply and he wonders if she’s asleep after all. They stay in different rooms because according to Veronica, he isn’t fit to stay on the same bed or space with her.

When Daxon opens the door to her room, his heart feels like a stone that is thrust into the abyss of a deep ocean, and even swallowed by the biggest of fishes. Right before his eyes is something so blasphemous that he cannot remember how to breathe.

A scene that shatters his trust, hope and everything in between.

Veronica, the woman he surrendered his heart and soul to has her legs spread and her voice, moaning the name of a man that isn’t him. If this was earth, how bad would hell be?

They are both naked and his wife is on top, riding the unknown man. Their sounds of pleasure echoes through the walls and they are so busy to even realize that Daxon is in the room.

“They are intimate, their lips are locked together and Daxon’s whole world comes crashing down.”
