Days passed quietly. There were no attacks—from Don Derek, Daniel, Liam, or the new enemy. It was calm. The calm before the storm, perhaps.

Ten men stood, eyes lowered, as Xavier faced them. Black dress shirt and trousers, hair slightly tousled, leather gloves tucked in his pockets. He leaned on a table with tools, then rolled up his sleeves—it was time to work.

A gun with a silencer was passed to him. He moved closer, firing execution-style. One… two… three… nine bullets.

  • 67. Sofia's trap

Xavier looked at the notification. He didn’t type anything back or call, but he knew Sofia was capable of anything. He didn’t want people linking her death or any drama to him by any means. He looked at Svetlana on the bed, fast asleep. Something in him wanted to kiss her goodbye. He didn’t even want to leave her today he wanted to be there when she woke up, showering her with a kiss again. A gut feeling perhaps? But this would take a minute to fix.He walked around the bed, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead before leaving the room. Downstairs he spoke with Vladimir about her breakfast preferences so she could have a good morning. “Where are you?” he texted her once he was in the car. She sent him the location. It wasn’t her brother’s mansion or the hotel she usually frequented, but a house in the middle of nowhere. He didn’t think much of it at first; it just seemed like a secluded place, possibly where someone might attempt suicide. A foolish idea on her part, but when

  • 66. Having her to myself

The moment was disturbed by Vladimir’s knocking, breaking the mood.“What is it, Vladimir?” he said, already irritated.“I have some news I must convey, my lord.”“Can’t it wait until morning?”“No, my lord.”“Come in,” he said, letting Krasavitsa’s hands go. She moved back quickly as Vladimir entered the room. She excused herself, going out to give them privacy. Her face was still flushed. She didn’t think in a million years that Xavier would initiate a kiss. Last time she did, but this time he had. The feeling of his lips on hers still lingered, making her heart race.Xavier was what women called handsome, attractive, and irresistible. Even when she tried to ignore it, he made her weak in the knees when he touched her, even casually. She could never get enough of his presence, yet she hated how easily Sofia could hold onto him.His words echoed in her mind, and now that they were legally married, she felt even more conflicted. She cou

  • 65. "You are mine "

I stood by the window focusing on the lights that sprawled over the city. The cold night breeze blessed my face, telling me to get inside and sleep. I had been standing there for a while now, wondering about business tactics and what she was still doing downstairs. But my patience was wearing thin. She knew where my room was so… I dropped my glass on the mini bar table, that’s when she emerged behind the door. She didn’t make eye contact yet, probably because of what happened. I didn’t say a word to her but I just walked to my side of the bed, removing my watch and going to bed after switching my alternate night lamps since there were now two. Although I acted like I didn’t see her movements, I still followed them with my eyes closed. She did her daily night routine and then came to bed. The following day it was the ceremony. Their parents were obviously happy, especially Xavier’s mother who was

  • 64. Fake pregnancy

"She what?" Xavier stood up, looking at the doctor."She asked me to tell you that she was pregnant. Are things okay at home?""Thank you, doctor, for your time. I will take my leave." Xavier didn't want to answer the question. The doctor didn't pry further, shaking Xavier’s hand before he left.Xavier didn't say anything, walking to the car without waiting for her. She followed behind him, afraid to start the conversation. The drive back to the hotel was filled with silence; Xavier was looking ahead."Xavier," she called to him, but he ignored her entirely."I can explain," she said, her voice breaking, looking down with shame all over her face."Explain what? That you just lied about the baby or that you just tried to bribe the doctor?" His jaw was tight."I didn't know what to do to get your attention, Xavier. I'm sorry." She held onto his arm."Don't touch me." He moved her hand off him with force."Xavier, why are you

  • 63."I don't know how to put this, but your wife tried to bribe me."

Xavier kept ignoring Sofia's calls. He didn't want to talk to her for now. He was busy with the planning and the busy day ahead. The mansion was getting new decorations, so were the renovations for his penthouse. His parents were going to be staying in another villa, but his in-laws were going to stay here with them as per Svetlana’s wishes. He agreed because he wanted her to be happy before realisation hit. She didn’t know the whole plan yet, and he was sure she would not take it well. He told Svetlana to stay home and prepare for her parents’ arrival, fixing the rooms per their liking. He didn’t want her using her card, so he left his platinum card. Rose was also coming by the house later. Sofia kept calling even during the drive to his office, but he declined it. She was honestly causing him a headache. What did she want that badly? It couldn’t wait. Paper after paper, Xavier first read through then approved or disapproved the ideas. During lunch time, Zayne came w

The sun rose, brightening the sky with its rays, adding colour to the dark sky.Xavier was in his sleek charcoal grey suit, slowly descending down the stairs, sleeves rolled, on the phone."Yes, Saturday would be best. I want everything ready per my orders," he spoke with a tone of authority. She too came down, walking slowly, looking at the ground to avoid slipping and falling, since for some reason the floor looked shiny.Xavier noticed her steady steps, walking near the stairs, holding out his hand for her to take. He was still on the phone; she didn’t place her hand, hesitation was visible. But then in the end she placed her hand in his he held it firmly, not putting too much pressure to hurt her. They walked towards the table the workers obviously had their heads lowered. Xavier saw her blush a little before hiding it.He let go of her hand, pulling the chair for her as well. She sat down.
