Those guys didn’t even have time to raise their firearms when the zombies hit them with crowbars or fists.

Chaos escalated, with dogs barking in the background. The humans still tried to fight, but the zombies overwhelmed them.

“Don’t get too far behind me, Gwen.” Cody got out of the car and took a rifle that the house guard had been holding.

He pointed the weapon at the guard, who swiftly crept away. “Was he also involved in killing your friends, Gwen?”

Gwen gulped. “Yeah…”

Cody shot the man without hesitation, and Gwen looked away. The weapon’s jolt caused Cody’s injured shoulder to feel as if it might detach, but he didn’t care.

This ruined world doesn’t need someone like that guard.

The young man turned his attention back to his zombies. The small one fell from a gunshot to his head, while the big one crashed into another man.

While Cody was focused on other things, he could only give basic instructions to their brain. He couldn’t make those living corpses remember a series of complicated movements, let alone make them have their own initiative.

Despite that, the zombies managed to defeat those people. Cody command the big zombie to lift the last person’s body, then slammed him hard.

A thud echoed, and the person didn’t move anymore.

Instead of being happy, Cody became even more wary. He had a bad feeling. This is too easy.

“We haven’t finished them all yet,” Gwen hissed. “There’s still one more.”

“You useless worms!!!” A human roar came out from inside the house.

Gwen added. “I believe he is their boss.”

A person with pale, grayish skin came out of the house while yawning. Cody’s zombie ran towards him, but he caught it and threw it as far as possible.

Cody shot the two-meter-tall man. But the bullet bounced off that man’s skin. He and Gwen couldn’t help but gasp when they saw that.

“I told them, if they can’t guard this place, I don’t care if they die.” The yellow-haired man muttered and kicked a corpse. Yawning again, he stretched his body, making his large muscles stand out even more.

[Another Zombie System User detected]

Cody’s eyes widened at the text in his menu system.

Name: Brigg Howard

Role: Zombie Body Manipulator

Attack: B

Defense: A-

Stamina: C+

“Oh, you also have the power too, huh?” Brigg moved his fingers in the air, just like Cody when he was using his system. “Zombie puppeteer? You can control them?”

Cody held his zombie so it wouldn’t attack. He had to think of a way to fight that man first.

[If you defeat other system users, you will get fragments of their power]

Brigg laughed. “Maybe if I beat you, I can control those zombies, too, Cody Wolfe?”

Cody kept aiming the rifle at that man, even though he knew the bullet would have no effect.

“How about I tell you a little story?” Brigg yawned again. “Perhaps, by knowing my abilities, you will be more motivated in defeating me. You want to get my power. I’m tired of always fighting weak and unmotivated enemies.”

Cody forced a smile onto his face. “I’m listening.”

It was the young man’s way of buying time. He still hasn’t come up with an idea to defeat that man.

“Ooh, you’re getting enthusiastic. It seems like this will be more interesting.” Brigg grinned, walking towards Cody and Gwen, causing the two to step back. “As you can see, I am a zombie myself.”

Gwen widened her eyes, but Cody chuckled.

“Let me guess, you can manipulate the bodies of the zombies, but you can’t control them.” The young man replied.

Brigg shrugged. “So, this power is useless at first. If I use it, I make the zombies stronger to kill me.”

“So, you turned yourself into a zombie? How could that be? If you become a zombie, you will lose your ability to think like a human.”

A gigantic laugh escaped Brigg’s mouth. “One day, fate was not on my side. A zombie bit me.” He removed his shirt, revealing a bite mark on his shoulder. “Strangely, I can still think like a human, even as a zombie.”

“From then on, you enhanced your own body with your system?” Cody concluded.

“That’s how it is.” Brigg turned his body and hit Cody’s zombie, which had been sneaking up on him from behind. “That’s enough chit-chat! Let’s have a real fight!”

Cody, now wearing the appearance of an old man with white hair, sat in his yard. Next to him was a little girl.“Why did you have to move, Mr. Wolfe?” The little girl pouted. She wouldn’t look at Cody.Cody chuckled. “I just wanted a change of scenery, Sasha. I’ve lived here for years. Maybe it’s time for me to go back to exploring the world.”“But I enjoy talking to you. Your stories are always interesting, even though sometimes I’m not sure if they’re true or not. You might make them up.”Cody laughed and stroked the little girl’s brown hair. “We can always video call each other.”“My mom said that face-to-face conversations are always better…” Sasha found her mother waving at her from the house next door.“I think it’s time for you to go home, Sasha.”Sasha got off the chair and held out her pinky finger to Cody. “But you promised to call me, right?”Cody intertwined his finger with the little girl’s and smiled again. “I promise.” After that, Sasha ran to her house while her mother

  • 187 – In the Silence of The Night

After exchanging information about various types of diseases with his data about the special zombies, Cody went to work. He built a structure of microorganisms that could damage any type of body. He didn’t understand the body structure of beings in other dimensions, so he was on guard. But in the end, he couldn’t make something as small as bacteria. So, he preferred to make various organisms the size of dust that could release toxins from within themselves. The toxins were what would make those another dimension beings sick. Even so, Cody made sure they didn’t die. He felt he had to hold his moral high. He wasn’t certain that those beings really wanted to invade the earth. Who knows, they just wanted to do research or diplomacy. If the microorganisms multiplied and became deadly, they could wipe out the entire planet. Cody didn’t aspire to commit mass murders. But Cody and the government agreed that waiting for them to come wasn’t worth it. If it turned out that they wanted to destroy

After that moment, whoever was in the other dimension did nothing to the spy device Cody had sent. He could only assume they didn’t know how to approach that thing yet. This was a time Cody couldn’t miss. He had to do something while that thing was still there. Because that was the only thing that allowed him to connect to the other world. If he was late, they would perform surgery or something, making the spy device unusable. He had sent some more of that thing, but he wasn’t sure if they would still keep it. They could kill them right away. Now, he was in a government room with the president, Tia and Luna as representatives of Zeno’s town, Jane from intelligence, Kevin who represented the navy, Helena from the senate, and various other government departments. They were having a secret meeting.“So, after hearing your explanation, I have come to one conclusion, Mr. Wolfe.” The president, a man with graying and thinning hair, spoke. “You are asking for more of our resources to build y

Helena closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “Yes, I remember someone, but I forgot her name and who she is. She means a lot to me, but not in a romantic way. She’s….”“Your little sister.” Cody cut Helena off.Helena’s chin dropped. “But I’m an only child.”“I won’t explain it too long,” Cody continued. “But I will slowly restore your memory of five years ago, when all that happened.”The senator was about to say something, but he gulped and answered instead. “Okay. Just do it.”Cody made a special zombie in his house approach Helena, but without her knowing. However, Cody also made sure that individual did not get too close to the senator. The most important thing was that Cody made the special zombie signal Helena’s brain little by little.“Hey.” Helena frowned. “Why aren’t you doing anything…”Before she finished speaking, she gasped. Her eyes widened.“Do you remember that memory?” Cody asked.“We used to be friends?” Helena asked back. “And I used to be your right-hand woman….

  • 184 – Memories

It turned out that even after quite a long time, Cody had received no news from the spy he sent to the portal. He still saw endless darkness. But that was bliss for him. He had created a system so that his special zombies would work automatically and cooperate with the government, the sea kingdom, or those from Zeno’s town. The special zombies would only provide updates via telepathy. That way, he could often be with Freya, while also looking for a way to free Nigel. And that went on for almost three months. Fall would soon be over, but everything was still the same.Cody wondered how long this peace would last.“If only my position was higher, I would protect you more than this, Cody.” Akira, who was now a major, sighed in his office chair. “Unfortunately, I can only make you invisible in this city. I can’t guarantee that in other cities.”Cody smiled. “That’s okay. I really appreciate it. Freya is also not someone who wants to always go on trips.”Akira was silent for a moment. “Hav

  • 183 – Into the Void

Cody supervised Luna’s body reconstruction through a transparent wall connected to the operating room. They used various mechanical hands to build that woman’s body from the smallest parts.“What do you think, Cody?” Tia came and stood beside that man.“This is the most perfect way to build a body from scratch. I can indeed form a new body, but it still doesn’t fit Luna and her friends.” Cody commented. “They have fundamental differences compared to my special zombie.”“Well, but this method is so slow, while we are still pressed for time. There are still many former commander-in-chief candidates whose bodies we have to rebuild. We are still looking for a solution for that.” Tia sighed. “By the way, isn’t it time you dropped the special zombies’ call? They aren’t the living dead like the ones you met in that apocalypse world, right?”“I don’t know what to call them.” After saying that, Cody left the room to meet Randy, who was sitting outside. The former officer who was sitting on a w
