Chapter 52. Between Two Worlds

The night was silent for a single breath. Then the gun clicked. Kevin froze on the wall, his small body stiff with fear. Jonah’s golden eyes snapped to the sound, glowing brighter in the darkness.

The scarred leader stood tall, rifle steady, his cold gaze locked on Jonah. His voice was sharp as a blade. “This ends now.”

The survivors on the wall followed his lead, rifles lifting as one. The air hummed with tension, with fear, with hatred.

Jonah did not move. He stood in the ruins, claws flickering faintly, the horde whispering in the shadows behind him. Kevin turned, his voice cracking. “No! Stop! Don’t shoot him!”

The scarred leader didn’t look at him. His eyes were fixed on Jonah. “Step away from the boy, monster.”

Kevin spread his arms wide, standing between the rifle and Jonah. “He’s not a monster! He saved me! He saved all of us!”

The leader’s jaw tightened. “Step aside, child. You don’t know what he really is.”
