“Su Jian, what are you waiting for? Go now! I’ll hold them here!” Lengyi’s voice was firm, though fear gnawed at every fiber of her being. She knew well that facing this group alone was a dangerous decision. But she also knew that if they stayed together, they would be easier targets.
Su Jian was shocked by his wife’s stern command. He wanted to say something, to express that he couldn’t leave Lengyi in the midst of danger, but the words didn’t come out. His gaze met Lengyi’s eyes, filled with certainty, and in that moment, he knew there was no other choice. He had to leave.
“But, Lengyi!” Su Jian finally managed to speak, his voice full of concern. “I can’t just leave you—”
“Run! Now!” Lengyi cut him off, her voice undeniable. “You don’t know anything about them. Don’t hesitate, go now!” Her voice was slightly hoarse with tension, but still commanding. There was no room for further discussion.
Su Jian bit his lip, looking at his wife with a worried expression. But after what felt like a long moment, he finally turned and started to run. Each step felt heavy, as if he were leaving part of himself behind.
But deep down, he knew Lengyi’s decision was the best. If they stayed together, they might be more vulnerable to attack.
Lengyi watched her husband go, his steps quick and full of worry. She knew she had to face them now. There was no time to stop and think. Several of the Xia family’s guards were already moving forward, trying to block the mysterious group’s progress. However, despite their greater numbers, the confident aura carried by the mysterious group sent a shiver down Lengyi’s spine.
The leader of the group looked at Lengyi with a sharp and hateful glare. “He’s running, Miss Lengyi. But there will be no safe place for you. Hand over ‘Heaven’s Echo,’ or you will suffer the consequences!”
Lengyi didn’t respond. Their words only made her more certain that they had to be confronted.
“I won’t let you harm my husband or my family,” Lengyi replied firmly, though her heart was full of anxiety. She drew her sword from her waist, and in an instant, it gleamed sharply, ready for battle.
The group began to move. Three of them rushed forward, each carrying sharp weapons and malice. Lengyi’s guards immediately moved to protect them both. However, they were outnumbered. Lengyi felt an overwhelming pressure, but she did not back down.
“Stay focused!” Lengyi shouted to her guards, signaling them to concentrate on defense. She couldn’t let this mysterious group threaten her husband any longer. As soon as the first strike came, Lengyi moved swiftly. Her sword clashed with one of the group’s swords. The sound of metal colliding echoed through the silent market.
But these enemies were no ordinary opponents. They were well-trained and moved in sync. Lengyi felt a powerful force against her chest as one of them attacked with incredible speed. Her sword nearly struck her, but with extraordinary speed, Lengyi managed to dodge. However, at the same time, another strike hit her right arm.
“Ah!” Lengyi stifled the pain coursing through her right arm. Blood began to flow, but she didn’t allow herself to stop. With determination, Lengyi endured the pain and kept fighting. She would not let them take what they wanted.
Her left hand blocked the next attack, and her sword once again struck at the enemy, forcing them back. However, even though her guards were trying to protect her, the attacks became more intense. One of the mysterious group members managed to exploit a gap in Lengyi’s defense and kicked her in the stomach. Lengyi staggered, but she stubbornly held herself up, refusing to fall.
Her body felt heavier, and the wound in her left arm grew more painful. Every time she tried to strike, the pain disrupted her concentration. But Lengyi couldn’t give up. She knew that if she fell, her husband would be in grave danger.
“I won’t let you win,” Lengyi hissed, gritting her teeth to bear the pain. With the last of her strength, she leapt sideways, avoiding a strike from behind, and aimed her sword at one of the group members. Her sword hit her opponent with great force, sending him stumbling backward.
However, despite one enemy being defeated, the other two became more aggressive. Lengyi knew time was running out. Her guards were visibly exhausted, and if they held out any longer, they would be outnumbered.
In the midst of the chaos, Lengyi felt a strange sensation creeping inside her. A decision had to be made—a decision that could change everything. Should she attack harder and injure the enemies more deeply, or should she give her husband the chance to get help?

An Optimistic
The night had fallen over the Xia family estate. Stars flickered in the clear sky like scattered diamonds, and a cold breeze blew through the ancient courtyards. Su Jian was sitting on a small wooden stool in the courtyard, a sigh escaping his lips as he watched the moon.“How did I end up here again?” he muttered to himself, scratching his head. He looked at his calloused hands and then at the large family mansion around him. Every day, it felt like he was living in someone else's life—a life filled with cultivators, powerful martial arts, and people who looked at him like he was nothing. The only person who ever seemed to give him any attention—despite the occasional scolding—was Xia Lengyi. His wife, though distant, had defended him more and more lately. Still, Su Jian knew he was out of place here. Lengyi took a deep breath, as if feeling the morning air for the first time in a very long time. Her chest felt lighter, unlike the days before. Her head turned slowly, her eyes catching the image of Su Jian sleeping on the chair beside her bed. Su Jian looked exhausted, his head drooping with his body slumped awkwardly. Lengyi smiled faintly at the sight of him, warmth stirring in her heart.“What has he done to end up like this…” she murmured softly, her voice trembling slightly.Lengyi tried to move her body.
