THE HUNTED HUNTER

THE HUNTED HUNTER

Kael dropped his hands down, causing his blade to run along the jagged ground, sending burst of sparks infused with dark-magic across the floor. His victim, a bloodied werewolf, laid on the ground, staring at him with his one trembling eye. Kael growled as he knelt beside the dying beast. “They sent me to tell you, wolf…” He lifted his sword and placed it on werewolf’s neck. “… your end has come.” ................. The world was dying The Blinding Veil - a divine seal formed by the beings of past was the one thing stopping the entire world from meeting its end. But it’s effects are already fading as the seal had begun to break and the evil curse the ancestors had tried to ward off with the seal had begun to seep in through the cracks in the bleeding veil. Vampires were going rogue, werewolves killed without reason, the Elves turned to dark magic, the faes sat and watched the evil unfold without interfering. And the humans? They were reduced to hundreds, losing a battle even their techs couldn't help win. But Kael Draven, a god-blade wielding killer with no memory of his past, is not like them. Once a child soldier and now a hired gun, Kael believes his targets are the danger—until a failed assignment reveals a terrible truth: They're not the threat. He is. Chased by his former masters, Kael joins a half-elf warlock, a exiled werewolf, a Fae torturer, and a human prodigy. As the world is about to end, Kael learns that he's not human—nor hybrid. He is something more... With everything and everyone after him, will Kael become the monster he was designed to be, or seal the pact that wants to end him?

Chapter: CHAPTER 10: THE BROKEN HUNTER
The gut-wrenching stench of charred corpses drifted through the night air. A dying werewolf, its innards spilling over its sliced belly, groaned at Kael's feet. Hissing, Kael stabbed him in the face, his blade sinking deep into his skull, quieting him. “Tech Knight?" Kael muttered as he bent down, wiping his bloody blade on the werewolf's carcass. "The order told me ‘bout a human wielding cursed tech and working with the resistance. That you?" He stood up, whirling the god-blade around as he took a good look at Mira. He cocked a brow as he tilted his head to the side, his gaze traveling down her neck. With one swift sweep, he placed the sharp blade under her chin, lifting her face up. Mira didn't move and instead grinned at the hunter. “Those disgusting blue veins tracing down to your chest," Kael said coldly. "Your body is rejecting the magic. Using your machine is killing you.”Mira chuckled, flicking the blade from her chin. "I never knew the hunter to be someone who cares.”K

Chapter: CHAPTER 9: THE TECH KNIGHT
Kael took a few steps back, his gaze locked on the being standing in the shadow. His arm had begun to heal but the bloodied sleeve of his shirt caused the thick fabric to mat against his torn skin, sending sharp pains up his arms whenever he moved. The moonlight glinted off the sleek metal armor plating covering the stranger from head to toe and the blue runes etched across the suit pulsed faintly with magic. A mechanical mask covered his face, the two glowing eyes at the front the only thing that seemed to hold any hint of humanity. Their gloved hand was still pointed at him, the blaster at the center humming with restrained energy. "Magic-tech armor," Kael whispered to himself as he cradled his arm close to his chest. It wasn't easy for just any human to come by a tech infused with magic. So who was this person? And why did they want him dead? They... seemed human, so there was no way they were working with the Order. Or... were they? Kael was about asking then who they were wh

Chapter: CHAPTER 8: THE REAPER TREMBLES
Kael looked around, his teeth gritting as he watched the creatures surrounding him and Eldrin, slowly creeping closer. There were three vampires in their beastly form, two Faes with wands soaked in dark-magic, and five massive werewolves growling at him – and that wasn't counting the monsters lurking in the shadows of the trees."We can take them... right?" Eldrin said in a low voice as he glanced at Kael, whose eyes were fixed solely on the massive werewolf before him.He opened his lips to tell the vampire he didn't know -- that the poison's effects, although fading, was still there -- but before he could speak, the beast suddenly let out a thunderous roar. The deafening sound thundered through the silent forest, shattering the peace as trees shattered and fell. And then the monsters began to attack.Kael barely had time to prepare himself when the first werewolf rushed towards him, snapping its jaws inches from his throat. "Dammit," he swore as he swerved in time, its fang missing

Chapter: CHAPTER 7: THE ORDER'S DECEIT
Kael closed his eyes, taking a deep breath as the magic from the god-blade poured into him, filling him with life once more. His hands tightened around the hilt as the red and black runes on the blade pulsed like a heartbeat. The sound of feet shuffling brought him back to reality. He turned his head to the side and found Eldrin standing by the still open grave, staring into the pit. “Start talking,” Kael said, turning to face him fully. He had regained his strength-or at least most of it. "How did you find me? How do you know I was here? Why did you–”"One question at a time, dead boy," Eldrin said, cutting Kael off. Sighing, he crossed his arms across his chest, tilting his head to the side. "You were poisoned, Draven. Your blood is drenched with the smell of rot magic.”"I know I was poisoned,” Kael answered curtly as his jaws clenched. "You still haven't answered the question I asked you.” Eldrin's smile faded. "Fair enough," he muttered as he walked away from the grave and tow

Chapter: Chapter 6: RISEN FROM THE DEAD
His arms burned as though they were on fire and his heart felt like it was about bursting out of his chest. Images, memories he didn't have, flashed through his thoughts, flooding the halls of his mind. The vision Eldrin had shown him kept playing in his head on repeat like a haunting nightmare-the bloody creatures, Maltheon cackling as he ordered his archmen to shoot more arrows, and he and the other Grandmasters feeding off the Bleeding Veil. “Wake." Kael grunted, his eyes shooting open as his body jerked forward. His muscles felt loose and his heartbeat slowed down. He felt weak, as though something had drained him of all his strength. It was the weakest he had ever felt before. He tried to scream but his voice came out muffled as though he had something over his mouth. No, it wasn't just his mouth. His entire body felt as though it was being held down by something. He moved around, trying his best to dislodge himself from whatever had him pinned down but the more he moved, th

Chapter: Chapter 5: THE SIP OF DEATH
Kael squeezed the letter and shoved it into his pocket before standing from the bench. He adjusted his cloak before walking towards the main hall. Grandmaster Maltheon rarely called for him and Kael assumed that his summon was going to be related to his questioning the scribes and searching the archives. It was about time anyways. He needed to know the truth and who better to tell him that than the one amongst the five who founded the Order. Kael walked past the main hall and through an unfamiliar corridor, one that he knew of but rarely visited. The corridor opened onto a high chamber bathed in silver moonlight from the open roof above the room. The room's walls were carved with ancient runes depicting stories of the past, stories Kael was taught for as long as he could remember. And there, standing by the window of the sanctum, was Maltheon, clothed in a robe of crimson and gold. Kael could not see the fae’s features, but from the outline of his shoulders, he could tell he had a

THE HUSBAND THEY BULLIED, THE KING THEY FEARED

Useless, broken, ordinary, worthless--these were the tags etched on Damien Hale's back by the people meant to be his family. Chapter: CHAPTER 72: ERASED FROM THE PIER
ERASED FROM THE PIERThe city had barely woken up when Damien pulled out of the hotel's parking lot. The morning sun had just peeked over the high-rise buildings, its warm blue hue bleeding over the horizon and washing over the glass panes in muted color. The streets were thankfully still thin with traffic, just the delivery vans and the occasional commuter driving through intersections. Damien took in a deep breath and exhaled sharply as his hands rested steady on the steering wheel. His posture was calm, but his mind was a chaos of thoughts. Ryan. The muted voices. The gunshots following. And then silence. His phone buzzed softly in the cup holder, the sharp sound cutting through his thoughts. His eyes drop down briefly at the name dancing on the screen. Commissioner Jim. The call cut just before he could answer and a message preview immediately followed after, glowing across the display. ‘We need to talk. It's urgent.’Damien's jaw tightened. Was it about the recording he'd

Chapter: CHAPTER 71: LOW TIDE
LOW TIDEThe room had fallen silent now except for the soft hum of jazz filling the space between Damien's breathing. It drifted from the loving area, looping so many times that the melody now felt woven into the very walls. Damien sighed softly as he turned over and stared up at the white ceiling. The place was darker now, lit only by the dim bulb in the dining area. A body stirred beside him and he turned his head. Elara lay curled tightly against him, her messy hair resting calmly over his chest. She had one arm draped across his torso as if fearing he might disappear if she loosened her hold. Her scent had clung to him now–floral and warm, mixed with the faint trace of wine and something sweet. Damien ran a hand through his head as his gaze drifted to the dining table. The food arranged neatly over the top still remained untouched, plates full. A lump formed in his chest as he thought of the mess still waiting for her in the kitchen. She had gone through a lot of stress prepa

Chapter: CHAPTER 70: LOVE LONG WAITED
LOVE LONG WAITEDDamien found Elara sitting behind the table, one leg crossed over the other as she swirled the wine glass balanced between her fingers. The candlelights surrounding the dining area caught beautifully against the emerald silk dress hugging her skin. A few strands of her had slipped loose from the hairband she'd used to hold them in place, framing her face. Her lipstick had softened from the wine, smearing slightly across her cheeks. Her makeup looked ruined now… but she still looked as breathtaking as ever. A little undone, but breathtaking. Her gaze lifted slowly from the glass when she heard the door click shut. Her eyes settled on him, holding his stare for about a second before rolling lightly. “Oh,” she said, setting the glass down on the table. “You finally decided to come, huh.” She glanced toward the clock before returning her gaze to him. "Only three hours after our decided time. That's really early.”The words weren't sharp, but they definitely weren't li

Chapter: CHAPTER 69: THREE HOURS TOO LONG
THREE HOURS TOO LONGThe sound of soft jazz filled the apartment, drifting low and warm. It wrapped around the dining room like a quiet embrace, its gentle trumpet and faint brush of drums softening the silence that felt too loud. It mingled with the sweet scent that lingered in the air, and at the center of it all–at the head of the dining table–sat Elara. She leaned forward against the table, her deep emerald silk dress pulling her laps together. The soft fabric caught the candlelight each time she moved. She turned to the worn grandfather clock at the corner, staring at her reflection on the glass, studying the way the dress hugged her figure. The neckline was modest, revealing only a little cleavage. Her hair, usually left loose, had been pulled into a clean bun with a few stands cascading over her shoulders in soft waves. Her face held a touch of makeup that highlighted her features–subtle eyeliner, warm blush, muted red lipstick. She had chosen this look carefully for the nigh

Chapter: CHAPTER 68: A MAN'S BEST FOE
A MAN'S BEST FOE The night slowly descended over the city as Damien drove toward the police station. The moment he pulled into the parking lot, he found Commissioner Jim walking toward the door. “Jim," he called from the window. “Wait up." He came down from the car and walked up to Jim who'd stood now, waiting. Upon reaching him, the two headed toward the large building, discussing in low voices. The police station buzzed with life under bright floodlights that lit the curbs harshly. The place still carried it's usual hum of activity even at this hour. Officers strode in and out of the main hall, some holding case files, other clutching steaming paper cups that smelled faintly of burnt coffee. Commissioner Jim pushed the double doors, he and Damien walking through as it swung to the side. The florescent lights etched over them gleamed slightly on his bald head and his thick bushy moustache twitched everytime he spoke. A quiet air of authority surrounded him and he made it palpab

Chapter: CHAPTER 67: PROMISES AT BREAKFAST
PROMISES AT BREAKFASTThe morning sunlight poured in through the wide glass windows, cascading over the polished floors of the restaurant and casting soft golden streaks across waxed wooden tables. Outside, the city was already awake. Cars honked impatiently in the growing traffic, barking dogs yanked their owners around and a delivery truck rumbled past.Inside the restaurant, the air was filled with the sweet smell of ground coffee beans, buttered toast and something sweet–vanilla, perhaps. The soft clinks of cutleries against plates came from every table. A waiter weaved through the space with quiet efficiency. Elara sat opposite Damien in one of the tables. She wore her usual warm smile as she stirred her coffee with her spoon. “Oh, you saw their faces, right, Damien?" Her smile widened, satisfaction etched on her features. “Sebastian looked like he'd swallowed a lemon whole. But Vanessa?" She laughed softly, shaking her head. “I literally thought she was going to rip her eyes o
