THE GUARDIAN OF MIDGARD

Ten years ago, Jayd Valen watched a god slaughter his mother. Powerless to save her, he was taken to Valhalla, where the Valkyrie forged him into the greatest warrior Midgard had ever known. After surviving impossible trials and defeating the legendary Ten Godly War Souls, he earned a title coveted even by the gods: The Guardian of Midgard. Chapter: CHAPTER 7
The journey back to the village was quiet. The destruction left behind by Blackstone Fortress stretched for miles. Broken trees littered the roads, abandoned wagons had been overturned by the shockwave from the collapsing mountain, and there were even corpses of soldiers littered around , being picked on by scavenging beasts.Ria walked beside Jayd, stealing glances at him every now and then.He hadn't spoken much since leaving the fortress. She knew why, he had saved her, taken revenge against that evil man, but yet, he still blamed himself.Especially for the women who he couldn't save, and the Lich who he couldn't defeat. As the familiar outline of the town finally came into view, Jayd slowed his pace.It looked even worse under the bright rays of the sun. Many of the houses had collapsed completely. Others leaned dangerously to one side, barely standing after years of neglect and recent attacks. To think this was the place he had lived his young years, and had fun playing arou

Chapter: CHAPTER 6
The prison fell into complete silence.Kraden's headless body remained on the floor, his blood spreading across the cracked stone floor. The women locked inside the cages stared in horror, while the other guards backed away. Some even started running. It was best to return back to their families than stay here.Naj didn't spare Kraden a second glance. He dusted his sleeve as though crushing his subordinate's skull had been nothing more than an inconvenience."I've always disliked incompetent followers," he said with a faint smile. "They become troublesome once you start putting them in charge of hard work."Jayd's grip tightened around his sword. “What makes you think I won't become incompetent and then you'd discard me just like that?” He said, instantly taking a fighting stance.Naj shrugged. "Pawns exist to be discarded once they've served their purpose. Kraden opened the Abyss for me, gathered suitable vessels, and helped in using this region wisely. He fulfilled his role admirab

Chapter: CHAPTER 5
"I'm sorry, Ria." Jayd said, as he rushed forward."You don't have to apologise," she replied weakly, shaking her head. "You came back. That's all that matters." Speaking was taking a lot of her strength but she was willing to do it just to make sure her brother didn't take all the weight.“The fault lies with Kraden even if you want to be angry.” She continuedThe chains binding her wrists snapped apart the moment Jayd's fingers touched them. And before she could lose her balance, he caught her and gently lowered her onto the cold stone floor."Easy," he said softly as he knelt before her. "You're safe now, I'm really sorry."Ria forced a weak smile despite the pain coursing through her body."I told him." she whispered, struggling to keep her eyes open. "I knew my brother would come."Jayd couldn't help but smile back. "You've always been stubborn."Ria closed her eyes, allowing herself to lean into him, "I learned that from you."They shared a quiet chuckle, but it only lasted a

Chapter: CHAPTER 4
Lightning streaked in the sky and thunder blazed with intensity, a man flew without stopping.Until the eastern mountains came into his sight, before he stopped in his advance.Jayd looked down, standing on the pointy top of a mountain.“That's the place.” His eyes narrowed, resting on a large castle.Blackstone Fortress stood tall, on a large cliff, with raised black walls around it. Countless banners bearing a strange insignia fluttered in the cold wind.Jayd studied the castle and his senses sharpened as the sounds of screams and the cracks of whips filled his ears.Along with all these, he could also see the auras of the occupants in the castle. Some were faint and some were non existent.“What are they doing with dead bodies?” Jayd's frown deepened.Aside the auras he had sensed, one of them stood apart, a raging black fire, reeking of blood and greed.“So that's him.” Jayd said, stepping forward, and at once, the earth exploded beneath his feet.A streak of golden light tore th

Chapter: CHAPTER 3
Deep in an underground chamber, the stench of blood and rotting flesh filled the air. Inside cages with thick bars were different young women, their faces were stained with fear, holding the look of despair.A man clothed in black, held a terrifying aura, and his gaze was held in stone. His heavy footsteps echoed through the prison.“Simply wonderful.” Commander Kraden strolled with his hands behind his back, his lips curled into a pleased smile as he admired the terrified faces before him."Another successful hunt," he said with a satisfied chuckle. "The boss will be very pleased with this batch." His deep voice echoed as he stared into the eyes of every one of the young ladies. Then his eyes landed on a lady.Kraden stopped in front of another cage.Unlike the others, she stood at the bars located near the door of the cage There was not an iota of fear in her eyes. She was badly hurt with her torn clothes and her bruised arms, but she couldn’t stop staring at him.He took time to

Chapter: CHAPTER 2
Thunder crackled in the air and a terrifying presence spread. In the midst of all that, Jayd stood, staring down at the gangAnger flashed in his eyes. “Who gave you the authority?” He moved again, and his hand gripped the neck of another gang member. The man's feet left the ground as his fingers dug into his throat."I asked you a question." Jayd said, tightening his grip. The gang member clawed desperately at Jayd's wrist, his face turning purple."Cough.. let me go! You bastard!”The others finally snapped out of their shock."Do you know what you've done?""You killed the boss!”The gang lashed out, drawing out steel swords, ready to fight. To them, Jayd was more of a cockroach and they believed the death of their boss was simply because of the element of surprise. One of the men, a broad-shouldered brute with a scar running across his face, pointed his blade at Jayd and laughed."You're making the biggest mistake of your life."Another spat on the ground."Even if you kill us al
