Chapter Seven

Detective Sam was in the strategic room when the DPO entered. He had initially gone to his office and he was told that he hadn’t resumed work. He was surprised by the sudden presence of the DPO and he paused what he was discussing with the ladies.

“Good Morning, sir,” the ladies saluted.

Detective Sam and Sergeant Clinton also extended their greeting.

“I was just told that you guys resumed to the police station late last night. I thought you ought to be at Oriental Hotel.”

Detective put forward his word.

“Yes. But everything was shortened by the sudden vacation of Herbert Halloway. In the middle of the night when the ladies had already won his attention, one of his bouncers approached him and immediately, he walked out of the premise hence, we also have to leave since we have nothing doing.”

“What! You mean he left there that night?” The DPO ask having a thought.

Detective Sam and Sergeant Clinton nodded gazing at him. They were already wondering what he was thinking. Suddenly, he brought out his phone. Overhearing the conversation, they knew he was talking to one of his colleagues. He nodded and ended the call after a few minutes of talking on the phone.

“One of his men was caught yesterday and his Castle was raided. I just called the police division who went there with the NDLEA to search the Castle.”

“Wow. Little wonder. What did they get?”

“I am not sure anything great comes out of it deduced from the conversation I had with the DPO now. Well, I will converse with him better when I settle down. I was surprised when I learnt of your presence that was what prompted me to be here. Let me be on my way to the office. When you guys are done, you can come,” the DPO said and walked out of the strategic room.

Detective Sam and Sergeant Clinton returned to the drawing board and continue their conversation with the Supernumenary police.

“Now. We have a lot ahead of us and I think I will be meeting the police commissioner again because the mission is stages and we seem to have passed the first stage which is winning his heart. That was executed to perfection and I hope other stages will be the same. The sectors of the illicit activities Herbert Halloway engage in had to be divided into five with each of you having a physical property of it because he would certainly want to visit to confirm it. Herbert Halloway from our record is very smart…,” Detective Sam said.

Sergeant Clinton interrupted.

“I think our meeting have to be reduced. Herbert Halloway will soon keep an eye on these ladies and we know none of his spies. I think we should also work on that.”

Sam nodded and continued.

“We will need more men. Perhaps, more policemen majorly the newly recruited who hadn’t been known by anyone as a police which will serve a great purpose on this mission. I will also discussed that with the police commissioner.”

They concluded their discussion and the ladies left to take their breakfast. They never knew that everything would be that fast and they seemed to be gaining confidence as they passed each hurdles.

Sam and Clinton were also hungry but Sam was very curious and thought of meeting the DPO first. He wanted to know the outcome of the raid in Herbert’s Castle. When they touched down at the police reception, they lingered a bit before they met the DPO because he was busy with one of the prominent men who came visiting.

Herbert Halloway had concluded the meeting he was having with his cabinets. It wasn’t an important meeting, he just wanted to pass a message to those who would be present as his blood was inundated with fury concerning the recent raid to his Castle. His activity had been soothed recently due to some of the eyes brow raised against him and thinking he would soon return to engaging his international client, this came up again.

He later got the cabinet member who the guy that confessed worked for. Herbert Halloway had several times warned them against using his name to send any of their workers message. Chukwuemeka was led to the judgement room by two guards with tears rolling down his eyes. He knew there was never going to be a second chance except by miracle.

It wasn’t his fault. The person caught with the drug was his junior brother who worked as one of his transporter. He knew about the relationship between Chukwuemeka and Herbert Halloway very well and their drugs transaction. He never knew the rule and didn’t want to implicate his brother which coerced him into mentioning Herbert Halloway’s name when he couldn’t endure the torture anymore.

Chukwuemeka made effort to explain everything to him but Herbert Halloway old habit of not listening after trespassing hadn’t left him. Chukwuemeka was brought down on his kneel before him with tears gushing out of his eyes like a baby crying for food. Chukwuemeka was one of his most loyal member and Herbert Halloway was also pained that he would be going soon. He closed his eyes and pulled the trigger. Within the twinkle of an eye, he fell to the ground lifeless after two bullets penetrated into his body.

Few of Herbert Halloway’s followers were already left emotional. Chukwuemeka was the most generous among Herbert Halloway’s men and a few of them thought of pleading with Herbert Halloway on his behalf but they knew their life might be gone with it. Herbert Halloway had killed one of his guard in the past who tried to stop him from shooting a trespasser.

“Go and throw his body into the deep sea where the water dwelling spirit will feast on his body. In his next life, he will never involve family in business,” Herbert Halloway said with his thick tone and dropped the gun on the floor.

His bouncers walked behind him forthwith as the guard in the judgement room rushed to the corpse and lifted it and hauled it out. Herbert Halloway wasn’t happy with the fact that the only free day he did have in the week wasn’t well spent. His psyche went to the ladies as he couldn’t get his head off their physical endowment.
