Chp 4 - Call Out Your Leader

Intending not to risk what had happened before or any other distraction that could delay him from where he was going, Damianus cast a spell on himself that made him invisible to human eyes. Since they couldn’t see him anyway and couldn’t be shocked by whatever he did, he decided to teleport to his destination.

The Grand Palace of Santa Eyre.

Santa Eyre practised the monarchical system of government. It had been so since the inception of the city back when it was but a town and other cities used the executive form of government, The Great king of Santa Eyre, King Saldus Kovarick was the current ruler of the state. His power was like that of a governor who doubled as a monarch. Kovarick is a powerful ruler. More powerful than the richest family in the city, The Macmillan.

The great wealth and affluence of the king could be seen in his majestic palace made mostly of gold, what was not made of gold was substituted with expensive bronze, iron ore and brass. After all only the best could fit King Saldus, the Great.

With its imposing entrance distanced away from the house to allow an uninterrupted view of the breathtaking front part to the huge black marble sculptures floating on water flanked on both sides by mosaic columns and tens of uniformed guards roaming the ground, The Grand Palace was nothing to sniff at.

The interior was even more so jaw-dropping with its marble floor with unique waterjet designs, and high arched ceilings riddled with ancient artistic drawings. Damianus had a lot to feed his eyes on with the spacious layout, high decorative ceilings, use of luxury materials he had never set his eyes on, golden colours that seemed to be the focal point of the palace and all the unique art pieces splayed about.

Not to talk of the people. The people, the beautiful lot of them both males and females, most of them in uniforms as they go about their businesses and few dressed in grand wears being waited upon.

Damianus was a man on a mission though and what he sought was not the grandeur of the palace but what lay unknown to the human eyes in its backyard.

Still cloaked under the invisible spell, he passed by the workers, went through the kitchen, picking a well-buttered scone in passing, on his way to the backyard. He ignored the picturesque scene in the backyard which was almost a replica of the front and headed to the enchanted door.

All it took was a touch of his hand to the ornate door that would bar itself against any external force. The door the humans passed by without having an inkling of what it housed. The door swung silently in and opened to a lighted tunnel.

Damianus raised his eyes at the somewhat dank entrance and wondered how his kind could afford to stay at such a place. They were elegant beings, after all, no matter the era or time.

He stepped in and followed the path as the tunnel spiralled in then turned and turned. Damianus loved a good mystery but when he had to take the 13th turn and it seemed like he wouldn’t get to his destination anytime soon, annoyance cloaked his aura and he thought of just teleporting but he had no idea of what the destination looked like.

The ambience of the tunnel changed and he felt a different reverberation. More like a beating heart deep in the heart of the cavelike tunnel. A feeling he only felt when in the company of…

He took another turn and his face was split with a grin “Now, that is more like it”

Another whistled as if in agreement. A voice unlike his.

Before he could fully appreciate the grandeur before him though, he was tackled from the side by a figure. He deftly sidestepped and merely rolled his eyes as the clumsy youth rammed his shoulder against the opposite wall bringing down a layer of tapestry with him.

“That is no way to welcome a guest now, is it?” Damianus said with a sigh evident in his voice then he extended his hand to the kid who was glaring daggers at him “Here, let me help you…”

“Get him!” the boy shouted and another rushed at Damianus with a dagger raised.

Damianus merely retrieved his hand and backhanded the boy. Well, this one though with a face filled with freckles, looked older than Damianus. Still, they were nothing but lads to him.

He dusted his hand theatrically then smiled at the other angle “You can come out now. It wouldn’t do for you to embarrass yourself like these two” he said simply.

The young man's eyes widened in shock as they wondered how he knew that their partner was there. Then it became more clear to them. He was from an enemy clan. They did have not the power to detect if he was a wizard, a demon, or a werewolf but they knew that he was a threat with power. How else was he able to pass through the enchanted space?

The other guy came out from his hiding place and they all looked at each other before forming a barricade in front of the door that led to the inner chamber.

“I don’t know who the fuck you think you are but you have to go through us” the first boy he knocked down said with his chest puffed out in anger as he ordered him “Get the hell out of this place now before you bathe in your blood!”

“You hear him, man. Scram!” the other shouted.

The third one looked down at Damianus' clothing and laughed derisively “What the heck are you putting on, prick? Are you the garbage man?”

They pointed at him and laughed, tapping each other between bursts of laughter. “Hey…check…check out…the mesh!” Another burst of laughter.

Damianus' blood boiled at their impertinence “Call out the leader of this clan for me!” he ordered.

They paused their laughter, looked at each other and roared with mirth again.
