CHAPTER 241
Sylvester was about embedding his blade in the throat of a clone when suddenly thing every went still… simply froze up. One moment it was gunshots and screams all around him, the next was an eerie silence and stillness. Even the dust was frozen in midair, forming tiny constellations around. Bullets hung in the air, the path they tore through for themselves visible to Sylvester. A chill crept across Sylvester’s skin. Someone was controlling time… it had to be. There was no other explanation. Sylvester staggered back, wincing as pain tore down his side. He glanced down at himself, blinking at the bloody hole. He hadn't even been aware he was injured, staring blankly at the blood soaking through his clothing and oozing down. Thanks to time being frozen, it was coming out like a trickle now. He pressed a hand to his injury and looked up, his eyes scanning the faces as far as his eyes could reach. “Emily…?” there was doubt in his tone but how else could he explain it? As far
CHAPTER 242
After the death of the Sylvester clone, it was easier turning the tides of the battle. The other commander left from the enemy army was human and could experience fear unlike the clone who gave orders indiscriminately. Sylvester managed to carry Emily to safety, taking her directly to his study while Gerald covered him. He opened the door only to discover it wasn't empty. “Isabella.” he greeted his mother in law, his surprise at seeing her here making his voice sound weak. Immediately she moved around his table and jogged towards him, tears already streaming down her cheeks as she saw her daughter limp body in his arms. “What is wrong with her? What have you done to her? My baby.” she wailed, running trembling fingers over Emily’s unconscious body as she anxiously checked her for injuries. Sylvester moved away from her to the couch in the office and gently lowered Emily on it, taking care to position her comfortably. Isabella was there instantly, sobbing and kneeling bes
CHAPTER 243
Sylvester dozed off beside Emily as she slept peacefully in the warehouse. The doctor constantly came to check her vitals nodding in approval each time he did so. Finally knowing Emily was safe and sound, Sylvester realized just how tired and worn out he was but he didn't want to leave her side, choosing to nap where he sat instead. Verity and Katrina tried persuading him to go out and rest while they watched over her but he refused, stating that Emily was his responsibility. “Babes.” Sylvester heard it faintly but he was too tired. He grunted and tried to adjust his position on the chair. A soft hand gently touched his thigh, shaking it. “Sylvester.” This time he heard it. His eyes popped open instantly and he blinked repeatedly at the hand on his thigh, following it till he saw the face it was attached to. Em… “You’re… awake” he whispered, reaching forward to brush a strand of hair from her forehead . “Thank God, Em… .” He grabbed her, hugging her tightly to hims
CHAPTER 244
The news of Emily’s recovery spread quickly like wide fire through the clan, giving them one more reason to be happy and for the first time since the war ended, Sylvester felt the tension in his chest loosen a little. But the relief didn’t last long. There were still things to be done. There was the rebuilding of the compound for one, burying the dead and Viktor was still on the lose. Gerald stood beside him in the dimly lit hallway of the warehouse, fatigue etched into his face but his stance was as firm as ever. “The men are assembled, sir.” he said. “Those who survived, at least.” Sylvester closed his eyes briefly. He had known the moment would come, but knowing didn’t make it any easier still. “Let’s go.” Sylvester surveyed the compound as he stepped outside. Everything still bore signs of the war. Even the air was heavy with the smell of smoke and blood. He looked at the faces of the assembled men. their expressions were hollow, yet proud. Each of them had lost someone.
CHAPTER 245
Sylvester barely slept that night. The hotel room the government had arranged for him and his team as they arrived later in the day was comfortable… too comfortable, almost offensive in how pristine it felt after what they had just come from. He sat by the window long after Gerald and Otto had gone to their rooms, watching the city lights glitter like nothing had happened. Like lives hadn’t been lost. Like his clan hadn’t bled for a country that didn’t understand what had truly been lurking beneath its own soil. By sunrise, he was already dressed, the adrenaline of unfinished business pushing him forward. The government had scheduled a “national address and media engagement.” Gerald had read the announcement out loud the previous night, but Sylvester barely reacted. He didn’t care about the cameras. He cared about the truth. He cared about the people who deserved to be honored for their sacrifice. When they arrived at the central government hall, everything felt unnecessaril
CHAPTER 246
The first few months after the government ceremonies moved like a slow, unfamiliar breeze through the clan. Everything was calmer, almost unnervingly too calm considering what the clan had gone through. No sudden alarms. No explosions rocking the earth. No orders shouted through smoke. It was the first time in months that Sylvester woke up without the taste of battle lingering at the back of his throat. But he wasn’t entirely at peace yet. He still had a lot of work to do and Viktor to hunt. Only then would he wholly embrace peace. Thanks to the news of their victory against superhuman clones, people were coming in from everywhere with the desire to be members of the clan, including those with the potential to cultivate and the ordinary citizens. Also, the world has officially accepted him as the CEO of Red Dragon and he had fished out those corrupt guards who carried out illegal missions for government officials and handed them over to be punished. Now every platoon leader from
CHAPTER 247
The first morning at the resort felt like waking into a different universe entirely. Soft sunlight filtered through the curtains, painting warm streaks across the walls of the room. For a moment after waking, Sylvester didn’t move, preferring to simply lay there, listening to Emily’s gentle breathing beside him and the distant hum of waves rolling onto the shore. Ah… so this is what peace truly feels like? It was a sensation alien to him. Emily stirred after a few minutes, stretching lightly with a low sigh. Her hand instinctively landed on her belly, and she smiled when she felt the baby kick happily in response to her touch. “You’re awake,” Sylvester murmured, turning his head to look at her. “Barely,” she said with satisfied smile, voice thick with sleep. “Did you sleep any?” “A little.” He admitted. “More than I expected actually.” He didn’t tell her that he had woken up twice, expecting danger, expecting the sharp press of reality to hit him. And each time he’d fo
CHAPTER 248
Two weeks at the resort bled past in bliss. Emily loved every second of it. Sylvester tried to. Truthfully, his body still reacted to every unfamiliar sound, immediately switching to combat mode of its a sound he didn't recognize but still despite that, he was trying his best to be deliberate in the learning process. Every morning, Emily woke up first, humming some songs she remembered from childhood while she flipped through baby name lists on her tablet. Sylvester would lie beside her, pretending he didn’t hear her whispering to the baby or giggling when the baby kicked at random moments. Other times, she dragged him for long walks on the sand, resting often but determined to stay active. It was complete transformation from the corporate woman he knew her as to a carefree dedicated wife and soon to be mother. But despite the peace, something flickered under Sylvester’s skin.. a subtle pull, like an invisible tether back to the clan. He didn’t mention it, not wanting to ruin an
CHAPTER 249
No other incident occurred after the reported breach and Sylvester gradually relaxed again, permitting himself to enjoy the peace this time. Finally it was time for Emily to give birth and she successfully delivered a baby boy. Everyone who saw him immediately knew he was going to be a handful. He had Sylvester's hair color and eyes. Sylvester held the small bundle in the crooked part of his arm, smiling at his son. Tears blurred his vision but he blinked them away. He had never been this happy before. Time flew by and Sylvester returned to the clan. He told Emily about it and she readily agreed, stating she was already bored with an ordinary life and was considering suggesting going back. When they arrived at the compound two months after Emily's delivery, they couldn't help but stare openly in awe at how transformed it was. Sylvester walked by slowly, his eyes taking everything in. The once-battered front gates glowed with reinforced steel, the clan's insignia embedded
CHAPTER 250
It's been two years already and still no sign of Viktor. Some people were already beginning to doubt if he was really still alive or maybe he had moved on with his life. But Sylvester was sure Viktor still had some grand plan, he was just taking his time, waiting for everyone to relax their guard. One thing was certain though to Sylvester; whenever he decided to act, they won't be caught unprepared. Their stronghold, rebuilt the previous year, towered like a fortress of living steel, its reinforced walls humming with layered defenses that could withstand anything short of a natural cataclysm. Patrol units glided through the courtyard with organized precision, and new recruits trained with a discipline that reflected the very heart of the clan: resilience and purpose. Yet, for all the clan’s power and polish, Sylvester found his real peace not within the fortified walls but in the quiet space of the life he built with Emily. They had learned to balance their roles, leaders by d
