When Push comes to shove, Just remember…
Eden sat alone in the dimly lit room, his massive frame hunched over, shoulders trembling. The silence around him was suffocating, broken only by the shallow rhythm of his breath. His eyes, reddened and hollow, stared at the floor as if trying to summon his brother’s shadow back from the void. Every memory ate at his chest, his brother’s laughter, the promises they made, the last look before the end. He gripped his Bedsheet, his hands shaking, heart breaking. No roar could express the ache within. He glanced at the wall, on it was his brother's old quiver, mounted on it like a trophy. Since the tragedy, he only withdrew to himself, acknowledging only himself and his grief. He blamed every one, including himself, wishing he had made different decisions, even way back since they were kids. "Maybe he would still be alive." He thought, ending that stream of memories and wishes, but the reality still faced him…his brother was dead and he was here. All he could do was to honour his memo
Good news?
Gandu walked into his residence, tired and weak. It had been a long day, one that ended with sorrow. Sorrow he never wished for in the first place. He did not care much for the deceased, but he was his customer and as a trader, the mutual respect sought his obligation to mourn the dead. Despite the fact that the town was still empty because of the evacuation from earlier, he never bothered stay at the lab after helping to treat Dana. There was a lot of work expecting him and work wasn't what he needed. It was sleep. As he crashed on the bed, burying his face into the soft cushioning, he groaned, his ears picking up a familiar presence."Go away." He groaned, his face still buried in the clothing. "I need your help." David spoke. Gandu, obviously annoyed, rose and faced the man, giving him a look of displeasure. "What do you want this time?" He asked. "I need you to help me study the dark fairies that are currently maimed. I have them captured inside the lab. I believe we can cure
Mortal Imperfection
The lab went quiet as Gandu left for the basement, returning moments later with a map in his grip. He placed it on the centre of the table, all eyes pinned on what he presented. "See. This is deep into the continent. Known by the inner indigenes there." He spoke, pointing at the highlighted spot on the map.…"Eldahor.""I think I've heard of that place once. My parents once left for a pilgrimage when I was younger but I had no idea about the place, only the name." Meena spoke. "Good." He nodded, then faced David. "We need to get Solomon's mat or carpet or whatever the fuck they call it. We get it, dissect or tear it into bits and pieces then merge those parts with the gears I've been working on." He stated. David nodded, he understood his mission. The rest wondered why he faced David alone and not them, then he dropped his reason. "David you'll have to go alone. We don't know how much longer the Void will take to attack us again or his dark army (if he still has more). So to save t
The line grows thin
He stood in silence, watching the unmoving body. He thought to himself, "didn't I just hear a sneeze?", then he knelt before the man, peering at him. Suddenly, the man's body jerked, causing David to jump back. "Holy shit you're alive." "Who's alive? I never died. " Gandu's voice crackled through the Comms. David fixed his eyes on the old, feebly man, his gaze unable to tear away. "Like I said earlier, Eldahor is gone. Surprisingly, there is a survivor and he's alive." David responded. "Oh, check up on him and ask questions." The former stated the obvious. "What happened?" He asked the man, helping him sit straight against the wall. From what he saw, the man had been trapped by the debris probably amidst escape or when the temple fully collapsed. One thing was certain, death was on the door, seeking his soul. He heard him voice something, some words but he could not understand those. "Come again?" He questioned. The man spoke again, this time David realised he was speaking a
Level 39
Just then, the system's interface appeared before him. He frowned, reading his new mission objective."[Mission Alert: Level 39 – Defeat the Void's Spawns]""What the fuck?" He questioned."Just run, David. Fucking leave there, now!" Gandu yelled over the comms. "I can't. I haven't gotten the carpet, and I'm obliged to stop them now." The latter responded."Oh it's a carpet, not a mat." Gandu chirped. "Fuck off, man. This isn't helping!" The Void's spawns edged closer, their sights now locked on David. He tensed, darting his eyes sideways to check the canopy of trees. "I'll just buy some time." He muttered. He held his hands forward, indicating peace. The spawns, all curious even with their expressionless faces halted, eager to hear his next words. "See, violence isn't the way every time. Sometimes, we just have to talk things out." He spoke. They all just stared at him, their darkness pulsing slowly. "Look," He said, stepping forward. "We don't exactly have to kill each other
Just maybe I'll kill it this time
The air in Ladus was crip. Calm. Unusually calm for a town that had faced the brim of extinction twice in two months. Although the people were yet to fully resume their lives in the city as per Enitan's advice, the town did not feel so dead anymore. David landed before the lab, his robes murky with red dirt upon contact. He walked to the door and opened it, greeted by Gandu's presence in his always busy, yet white lab coat. He shook his head, wondering if Gandu really did any lab work. Well that wasn't his to mind, what mattered was the success of his mission and his dependence on Gandu's ability to deliver. "Look. My favourite man of the year is alive and home." Gandu greeted, approaching him. "It's fine." David spoke, stopping him with a wave of his hand, a sign Gandu understood. He stopped before the table and withdrew the carpet from his store, placing it there. It's silky gold threads lining on the hard wood, creating a contrast between gold and black. "So this is it, King S
Now…I dare you to run
The desert wind whispered across the sands outside Ladus, stirring small spirals of dust beneath a sunless sky. Above it all, David levitated, his robe flowing like a battle flag, his eyes narrowed toward the endless horizon with his thoughts rumbling."What happens if I die again? Will it work this time? What if the void isn't what I perceived it to be? What if it's just fucking with me?" He shrugged those thoughts off, negativity wasn't something he needed ahead of his epic battle. In that moment, his system's interface glowed before him, beaming an unsurprising message."[Mission Alert: Level 40 – Kill the void]"He sighed, of course the system wanted him to kill the void. This was the norm. "Ah, kill kill kill. I can say we're back to normal." He uttered with a slight chuckle. The system didn't respond. Behind him, the faint sounds of Gandu's hammer beat, echoing across the empty town. Ladus braced itself in a last stand against the void. He stared at the paved streets, watch
May The Void lose
Colleen rushed into the lab, meeting the rallied gang who already had all their flight gear on. The gear…all shoes and arm stockings now had pieces of the mat woven on them. Beneath the shoes were small mechanisms which emitted little fumes due to fuel burning. "Gandu, the gear. Now!" She ordered, wasting not a second further as she grabbed it from him, slipping them on."How do I put it on? Boot taps?"Gandu shook his head, speaking, "It just flies. Don't worry, when you get outside you'll see." He spoke. She ignored him, not because she wanted to, but the state of urgency demanded it. "David needs us. The void is here and he's going 1 v 1." She spoke. "I'm in, but how do we actually kill this thing?" Zeddicus asked. "You're going to be with Audrey, protecting Enitan and the people of Ladus at the rendezvous points." She replied coldly. Audrey burst forth, protesting, "This is unfair. I promised to help fight the void, you all agreed.""See Audrey. I'm sorry, okay? I did promis
The Line between Us
Audrey followed behind Zeddicus, Enitan and Gandu slowly in the air, her head turned down. She could hear the clash between the rest and the Void's spawn, angered she was pulled away by the adults after powering them up with her dark matter. Nuran flanked her shoulder as usual, glinting a tiny bit of light around. "How is the prosthetic working?" Enitan asked Zeddicus who led the party. "I am fine, I suppose. The joint is gradual regrowing. Meena said she'll be able to fully regrow the limb in a few days." He replied calmly, tapping the prosthetic."It's quite unfair. You give your all despite being human and easily fall to the evil of the void." Audrey blurted. He stopped, they all did. "Audrey," he spoke, turning to face her. "Is this still about you not fighting alongside David?" He asked. She nodded, words didn't need speech. "Okay. I understand you. When I was of your age, I also felt eager to fight beasts on my own. I understand how you feel, but I'm obliged to protect you w
"Hush now, child. Sweet Audrey."
"Oh, I even added a little surprise for you." The void added, snapping its fingers. David glanced downwards, watching in horror as his undead armies exploded into black waves, leaving nothing but the cold sand of the desert. "Now that they are on a temporary leave, it's you and I again." It spoke "I did not forget you, dear Audrey." It added and she quivered behind David, the fear momentarily gripping her. "So this is it, you've won, haven't you?" David questioned angrily. The void chuckled, nearing him. "I have always won. What gave you the idea I'm yet to win?" It questioned. "Because I'm still alive." David protested. It stopped in its tracks, a smug smile glued to its face. "You are alive. You think that is a gift? Very well, I shall make it a burden for you." David tensed, he knew what the void intended to do. Without thinking, he rushed at it, slashing as he got close. He felt nothing, the blade only phased through the void. He grit his teeth, anger swelling in him. He
