Chapter 1

Where The Hell Am I?

David's eyes fluttered open and he saw the bright, blue sky, vast and empty. He looked beside him and sat up, tired, strained and drained.

He was in a desert, one filled with ruins of settlements and skeletal structures of beasts.

"What the hell happened here?" He asked. He tried remembering the events that led to him being there but couldn't. All he had was a splitting headache.

He was hungry, thirsty, tired and confused. He began to walk forward, hoping he could find answers. He stopped in front of a broken skeleton, a chest hidden behind it. He went near it and tried to open it, he couldn't. He looked around and saw a small axe.

"Could this be a dream?" He wondered. Nonetheless, he proceeded to break the chest, swinging the axe repeatedly until its lock gave way.

He opened it and was elated to find fresh fruit and two pouches filled with water.

Without a warning, he grabbed an Apple, biting through it. He downed the pouch of water and breathed calmly. He decided to sit, his back now resting on the chest.

He tried remembering what happened again, but he couldn't. Frustrated, he yelled loudly, merely a sound dissipating in the wind of the desert. He was beginning to dose off when the ground started rumbling. Panicking, he got up.

"Maybe a caravan of horses were on their way." He thought. With an impending sandstorm on the way, he waited to see what was coming. Suddenly, his eyes widened.

It wasn't a caravan of horses. A strange being he had never seen before was heading his way.

It had multiple limbs like a centipede, a large, square face with fangs protruding from its always open mouth. It hissed loudly, a hiss that made David clasp his palms around his ears. It was headed his way.

David, at the last minute jumped sideways as the beast crashed into the chest. He got up and began running the other way. His feet occasionally sank in the desert sand and he fell. He was losing the distance he had put between himself and the beast. The beast inched nearer as he made for a high point in the desert. As he climbed the peak, he felt himself losing his breath. Just as he was near the top, he slipped, falling backwards. The beast's mouth wide open, ready to devour him. He closed his eyes, forcing back the tears swelling, he was going to die.

Suddenly, he froze, time froze. Before his face lay the set up on a screen.

"Activate save data" Was the option on the display. He didn't give it a second thought before picking clicking it mentally. To his surprise, the option clicked and his eyes shut again.

Once again, he found himself in the desert, the starting point he once was as he woke up. Shocked, he lay on the ground, scared to the bone. He got up after a few minutes of thoughtful mumbling, then looked ahead. Before him were the same ruins and Skeletons as he had seen earlier. He ran towards them and found the chest. He stopped, looking around. There were other chests around and surprisingly, he could see fonts above them indicating what they were.

On one box was written "ammo", on another was written "health". On another was written "weapons". On a fourth was written "armour".

He picked his axe up and broke the health chest first. Inside was a blue, fluorescent glow. He dipped his arm in and absorbed it. He now felt less tired and more agile. Hurriedly, he broke open the weapons chest.

Inside was an array of weapons. There were different swords, spears, Bows and guns. Without a second thought, he picked a couple of guns and slung them his shoulder. He also picked up a sword. It came with its sheath and he wrapped it around his waist. He walked to the armour box and broke it. Inside it was a black robe. He wondered what a mere cloth would do to save his life.

"Nonetheless, it could be useful." He said and took down his weapons, then draped the robe over his body. Suddenly, he felt a glow, one that showed an analysis of the robe.

"High level force resistance —100%.

Regeneration — 10

Enhancement — 100%

Store — 20 metres."

He wondered what those options meant. He mentally clicked Store and all his weapons disappeared.

"Weapons in store." Was what the interface read to him. Immediately, he picked up three more swords, realizing they could fit into the store without consuming much space.

He walked to the ammo chest, broke it open and stored as many ammunition as he could in the store. With one metre left, he stored a considerable amount of fruit and water in it, and held his axe.

He had no clue where he was, but he wasn't going to die. He walked ahead, staring at the setting sun. If there was somewhere to go, it was the rising point he had fallen earlier.

As he got near it, he froze. Before him was the beast that had chased him earlier. It awaited him, guarding the rising point.

It hissed loudly and he covered his ears once more, the effect of the hiss distorting his balance.

"Guns." He mentally instructed and his largest gun appeared in his hands.

Immediately, he began shooting, unloading all his ammunition at the beast.

When he was done, his consciousness returned and fear replaced his anger. The beast stood, unscathed, and he was out of ammunition. It hissed once more and he fell. He was going to die.

"No, not now." He resolute and mentally picked his sword from the store.

"Damn you." He yelled and ran forth, making to strike the beast's face. With great speed, it evaded his stroke, then turned around quickly, striking him with its side, causing him to fall a few metres away.

"No." He coughed, blood pouring from his mouth. He stood once more. He was dead anyway. He had no memories leading to him being there, he had nowhere to run too. Whatever was in the sight of the rising point was leading somewhere and the beast was guarding it.

"I have nothing to lose. I swear, I'll triumph, I'll pass by you." He yelled and dashed forward again. Midair, a thought suddenly struck him.

"Enhancement" he mentally clicked. Suddenly, he felt stronger and was moving faster towards his target.

At unimaginable speed, he struck his Sword at it's fangs, both sword and fang breaking. The beast shrieked, now in pain. It made to hit him with its face, but he jumped back, pulling another sword from the store. He struck it again on the fang, breaking both objects again. He hurriedly picked the fangs, then launched forward one more time. He was on top of the beast, and in a flash, struck both fangs on its back. It shrieked loudly once more and fell.

He breathed heavily, then slowly. He tried to move, but he couldn't. His gaze became blurry and his body became heavy.

In an instant, he fell, lifeless.
