[11] I am making it better
"But I told you," Jace's mother yelled back, tears clouding her eyes, with a hint of anger mixed with frustration. She crouched and started picking up some of her clothes from the floor. "I told you that I will pay you soon, I promised you that I will gather the money once my son leaves for college." She continued, "I needed the money I had on me for his flight ticket, and ... and you gave me one week to pay you. It's not even up to a week yet, and I have your money with me, so why did you have to do this?" The landlord stood upright without a hint of sympathy in his expression, his eyes glaring at the lady before him without remorse. "I don't want to keep you in here anymore, it's my apartment and I choose to do whatever I want to do with it." "I have never owed you," Jace's mother cried, as she lifted up the broken mirror from the floor. Most of her belongings were mishandled and lay broken on the floor. "This is the first time I ever delayed with my payment and you are doing

[ Difficulty: Intermediate] [ Location: Underground warehouse hidden beneath the dome-like facility known as Sector 9. Guarded with motion detectors, auto-turrets, and hired enforcers. ] [ Contraband includes illegal weapons, neural enhancers, and AI chips ] "Sector 9," Jace uttered, his mind racing with uncertainty, "Everyone avoids that place, it's like the headquarters for gangsters and stuff." [ Indeed ] "Hmm," he sighed and looked behind him briskly. "I need to get my mom out of that place before she does something crazy. That woman is ready to get down on her knees and beg that **hole." With that, Jace turned and clicked on his task to accept it, then turned around, returning to the scene. And just as he thought, his mother was still pleading with the landlord not to kick them out. "What the hell," he scoffed and rushed to her, "Mom, stop this, please. I hate the way people are looking at you. Don't make a fool of yourself in front of all these people, I alre

[ Both ][Good luck, Jace, ]"Yeah, I have to try at least. Heaven knows what sort of package he has given her to deliver at the most secluded places in the area, she will get into trouble just like I did at the airport."The drive to sector 9 took twenty minutes, each passing second felt a little more tense than the last because Jace feared that Tess would get there before him thus getting into the hands of those thugs. When they finally arrived at the area, he got out and paid off the taxi and went on his way further into the area. All these while he was more focused on the task at hand that he forgot to send the money he had promised his mother earlier. The streets were deserted, just a bunch of abandoned facilities, including medical centres, malls and schools. He couldn't help but wonder what happened to make everyone leave the area. A fight, a plague, or an epidemic.Far ahead, Jace spotted the facility known as sector 9, its distinct dome-like shape and bright yellow colour nev
[14] Option A
Slowly, both parties approached the entrance to the maintenance shaft, which has a thick metal door with a lock that can be opened from inside as well as from outside."I didn't think of this part," Ben admitted, scratching his head and thinking of ideas.Jace, on the other hand, knew exactly what to do. Without saying the words out loud, he requested a set of lock picks from the system's store.[ A set of lock picks would cost you ten coins. Do you wish to proceed with the purchase? ]"Yes," Jace replied, he had no other choice even though it was the only coins he had left.[ Lockpicks successfully purchased for 10 System Coins][ Item successfully delivered to your pocket ]"Thanks," he whispered and dipped his hand into his pocket, taking the lock pick out."This would work," he said to Ben who was shocked."Don't worry, I always come prepared," Jace said with a smug look and proceeded to try out the lock picks until he found one that fit easily into the lock. And with one simple t

"System, how much exp does it cost to upgrade my combat skills?" [ To increase the already existing skill of an attribute by 1% costs 50 exp ] "And that is all I have," he thought, taking a deep breath and contemplating whether or not he needed to upgrade his combat skills. If fighting the guard were as easy as fighting those thugs at the bar, then he wouldn't mind, but if they appeared tougher, then he'd have no choice but to improve his combat skills. As time passed, Jacd became more relaxed because not a single guard was in sight, fifteen minutes felt like a really long time. He followed the system's lead to find the vault, but just when the entrance to the vault was in sight, the guards whom he had been expecting emerged from every corner. There were six of them, and they surrounded him in all directions, each one pointing a gun at him. "Don't move!" One of them ordered, and Jace lifted his hand above his head and closed his eyes for a moment. "Damm it, they are huge," he
[16] Tess
Jace paused and then turned around immediately, his eyes widening in shock. "Tess?" He called, but she wasn't alone. A man dressed, in unformed, just like the other guards, stood next to her, and just before he could take out his gun to shoot, Jace beat him to it. "Ah!" Tess gasped as the guard next to her dropped dead on the floor, "What are you doing here and what's all this about?" Technically, Jace had no idea what this was about, but logically he could guess what it was. "It's some kind of illegal secret organisation, and I don't know exactly what they do, but it's not safe to be in here." Still terrified, Tess closed the distance between them, her hand trembling. She was holding onto a black box resembling a suitcase and a walkie-talkie on the other hand. "What is in there?" Jace asked. Tess shrugged, "I don't know, our boss gave it to me and asked me to bring it here. He said that if I successfully delivered the package he'd give me back my job at the bar. He i

Jace's mother had a hard time putting her belongings together. Even after Jace left, she went back to plead with the landlord, hoping that he would reconsider and let them back into the house, but the old man hardened his heart and stayed true to his words."You and your wretched son will not spend another night in my apartment," he repeated several times.Without a choice, Jace's mother parked most of her belongings together and kept them beside the house; she just needed them to be there long enough for her to find another place to stay. But then, she recalled what Jace had told her, to go to the Skyview apartment and rent a home to stay. These words repeated over and over in her ears but she had a hard time believing them. If Jace was truly wealthy enough to pay their rent at the Skyview apartment, then what was the source? Certainly, such a huge amount of money did not fall from the sky. Then again, she remembered how he got out of the case with the chief, and wondered,"He might

"Wait," Jace's mother paused, and the manager halted on his way to the counter. "Is there a problem?" He asked politely, "You don't have to worry about the payment type of anything like that, we've got it covered." "She only said to stop because she knows that she can't pay, that's all." The guard chimed in and the manager cast a deadly glance at him. "Return to your post, now!" He ordered, and while this was going on, Jace's mother's phone dinged with a notification, and his eyes lit up the second she stared at the screen. "Two hundred thousand dollars," she was seconds away from exclaiming. This was a lot more money than she had ever had at once, and the fact that it all came from Jace was even more shocking. "Where did he get all this money from?" She wanted to know, but that's a discovery for another time. Right now she has a guard to prove wrong. "No," she said out loud, stopping the manager from sending the cop away, "Don't send him away, in fact, I want him to come to

Meanwhile, at the police station, Jace placed the bag he had taken from sector 9 in front of the police officers just as the system had directed him. It felt as though the cops knew that he was coming over, with the way they welcomed him and took the bag from him without queries, leaving Jace stunned. "Well done, boy," the officers commended him, "You've made our job easier, we can now take action against those bustards." "Uhm, yes," Jace nodded, but there was a hint of uncertainty in his tone, a question trapped in his head that needed answers. "Who are they?" He asked. "Drug dealers, for short." The police officer answered, "We have tried everything humanly possible to catch those fools, but they are impossible. I don’t know how you managed to sneak into their base and come out alive." The more words the officers said, the more curious Jace got, and the more he wondered how his boss at Lincoln bars was linked to the association. For a split second, he started to connect the

Fortunately, his mother was also headed back to the apartment at the time he called; she had a few belongings to pick up before returning to Skyview. She didn't bother to ask where Jace made all that money from, and that's because she would have a lot of time to ask about all of that later on; for now, she chose to focus on the landlord. She arrived at the apartment first, and surprisingly, the landlord was yet to leave; he was supervising the renovation of their home for the new tenants. And as soon as he set eyes on Jace's mother, his brow furrowed. "She's back to beg again," he thought, "I am pretty sure that she hasn't found another place to rent." He muttered, but little did he know that a lot of drama was coming his way. Without saying a word to him, Jace's mother walked to the side of the building where she had kept her belongings and started to sort them out. With her new apartment, she only wanted to take items that were still valuable to her, like photographs and
