[21] You didn't care who anyone was
The landlord turned in the direction Killiam was pointing, and his jaws dropped to his feet. "It can't be," he thought to himself, "Perhaps Killiam had pointed to the wrong person." "This is my boss," Killiam added, urging Jace to step forward and take over from where he had stopped. Jace, with a smug step, forward and took the file from Killiam, along with a black pen. He looked at the landlord, smiled briefly and said, "I told you I'd be back, didn't I?" "What is going on?" Asked the landlord, turning from Jace to Killiam and back, "This is supposed to be decided by the government administrator, not this child... "This child got a warrant from the administrator himself to decide these matters," Jace cut him off, "Do you have a problem with it?" "No, this cannot be true," Briggs refused to believe, turned to Killaim, who confirmed with a nod that indeed, Jace was chosen. First, his mother returned with a platinum card; now, Jace has been given the power to re
[22]Treated like dogs
I heard that Stacy's child died a week after that incident," one of the spectators commented, her tone laced with grief. "She was really struggling so much at the time, I don't even know where she is now." Another spectator spoke up while the other was yet to finish, "He did the same to me, that's why I moved out of his apartment and rented from the landowner beside him. Briggs is not a good man, he refused to consider me at all, and what shocked me most that day was that I've never owed him in my life, so I was surprised to see him act that way." "Damm," Killiam uttered, his voice barely above a whisper, "Briggs has a track record of bad deeds, it seems." "I also heard from my friend that he is a terrible person, he treats his tenants like dogs, but keeps the rent very low so that they won't have another choice. It's no wonder he never got married. What kind of woman would want to spend the rest of her life with such a wicked person?" "Wow," Jace finally spoke up again,
[23] The truck accident
After the incident, Jace and his mother returned to their new apartment, and while she focused on setting up the home up, Jace tried to contact Tristan Coleman Academy again to inform them about the setback. The last time he did, he was told to wait forty-eight hours. Ordinarily, he wouldn't bother going to school anymore, especially with all his money and how much more he would acquire from the system. But he had put a lot of thought into it and figured that it was for the best, his wealth would be questionable if there wasn't anything to base it on. Plus, what else would he do with his life outside of school?During the process, he got a call from Tess and his heart skipped a beat."What does she have to say this time?" He wondered.Picking up the call, he placed it next to his ear, and the first words he heard were unexpected."To hell with you, Jace!" Silence stretched for a few seconds as Jace tried to figure out what he might have done to deserve this insult. Didn't he let her
[24] How expensive?
A few minutes after the streets were cleared, the taxi arrived at the nearest large store. A store that has everything a person might ever look for, including clothes, furniture, artworks, and even things as big as cars were parked behind for sale. At the time of his arrival, Jace paid off the taxi and walked towards the store. At first glance, you could tell that no ordinary citizen was welcome here, because you could not leave without spending over a thousand dollars at least. "Welcome," the security guard greeted Jace at the entrance. There were seven of them, and they weren't local police officers. They had seen him walk out of an ordinary taxi, which is a very rare sighting compared to the kind of cars that arrive at the parking lot daily. However, they are not as foolish as local stores to stop someone just because he didn't look rich. "Thank you," Jace smiled. They searched him with their security devices before letting him through. At his first step into the store, Jace w
[25] I'm in a haste
"The manager?" Jace asked, raising a brow in curiosity, "Is everything okay?" "Yes," the staff nodded, "She keeps the room section for those shoes locked, so I'd need her to unlock it and show you around." Jace's shoulders dropped in frustration; he didn't want to waste more time than he had already wasted. Tess would certainly be more furious. "It's okay," he replied and waited for the lady to dial the manager and inform her about Jace's intended purchase. Excited to get a good buyer, the manager rushed from her office on the top floor to the ground floor, where she couldn't wait to see the wealthy buyer who wanted to see the shoes that celebrities sorted after. However, upon arrival, she saw the staff and a young man, whose clothing and overall external features gave no wealthy aura, and it left her curious. "Who did you say wanted to see the shoes, again?" She asked the staff, pretending not to see Jace. "Me," Jace answered before the staff could, "I want to see the shoes
[26] Dennis Akarman
"Please, I really need it," Tess pleaded, her knees on the floor and her eyes clouded with tears, "My mom is at the hospital, her situation only got worse, and I have to pay for her to get treated. I beg you, please, I'll appreciate anything you give me, sir, please." Contrary to the promise she once made, Tess found herself before a man whom she detested with every of her being. He was the only one she knew who could help at this critical moment when she needed to save her mother's life. His name is Dennis Akarman, and he happens to be a successful car dealer. Tess had worked in his home for two years as a live-in maid, and he paid her quite well for the job. At the time, Tess conveniently provided for her mother and sister, but despite that, she quit her job to work at Lincoln bars for less pay. It may seem illogical, but she had valid reason to quit. Dennis would never give anything for free; he always expected something else in return, and for a young, beautiful lady like Tess
[27] I'm so sorry
"Is everything okay, dear?" Dennis asked as soon as Tess dropped the call, unable to overlook the expression of shock on her face. In response, she sat up immediately withdrawing from Dennis's grasp. "I have to go now, my mother needs me." "Is she dying?" He asked, unfazed and unbothered by her sense of urgency. "I can give the money to you right now as long as you promise to come back... "Just hold it," Tess snapped. She was unsettled because of how bluntly Jace had spoken to her, she didn't want to admit the fear of losing her mother, and didn't even want to imagine it. "I need to get to the hospital now," Tess added, but before she could finish her words and walk away, Dennis caught her arm from behind, and stood up immediately. "You are not going anywhere," he said, tightening his grip, and sending a shiver down the young lady's spine. "You can't do that, you come here to turn me on and you just want to leave like that?" "My mom," Tess protested, "She need
[28] Hospital policy
/ An hour earlier/Jace's purchase from the store was worth more than two hundred thousand dollars; it goes beyond just an attempt to prove the manager wrong, but also an instinctive desire to impress Tess more than any other man has.He called for an Uber and headed straight to Tess's house, his mind reeling positively. He had seen the kind of proposals she had gotten in the past and no doubt Tess would fall for him at first glance, and it would also prove to her that he was capable of conveniently catering for her needs. However, as soon as he approached the doorstep, his mind was unsettled. Tess's youngest sister was seated on the porch, her head resting on her knees. "Hey, are you alright?" He approached her, placing the bags on the floor and lifting her head gently. "Are you crying?" Jace asked, his heart dropping for a second."What happened? Where is Tess?""At the hospital," the little girl replied wiping the tears off her eyes.Worried, Jace sat down next to her on the porc
[29] Tess's arrival 1
"Please remain calm sir," the receptionist said, but Jace did not give her a chance to speak. "No!" He barked, "I will not remain calm until I see a doctor. Do you think your stupid hospital policies are more important than the life of someone's mother? If your mother were in this situation, you wouldn't even talk about these policies." "What's going on here?" One of the security personnel approached them from behind, "This is a hospital and you have to be quiet." "No," Jace said, "I will not be quiet until I see a doctor and until they commence treatment on that lady." "I'll have no choice but to kick you out then!" At these words, Jace took a sharp turn, his furious gaze fixed on the security guard who had just threatened him. "You want to kick me out huh. I dare you to touch me!" He shouted, looking him straight in the eyes, "I dare you." The security man was fazed, he found it hilarious that the young man had the guts to challenge him. "I don't know what you think you
[30] Tess’s arrival 2
"You... you slapped me, Tess?" Jace stuttered, stunned to the core that she had just embarrassed him in front of a few people. Unapologetically, Tess shouted, "I would slap you again and again Jace, why are you here? I told you that I do not want anything to do with you, didn't I? I have so much trouble on my hands right now and most of them are because of you, so why won't I slap you?" "You didn't even care to ask why I came here, or how I knew that your mom was ill... "Do you care?" She snapped, cutting Jace off mid sentence and wiping the tears from the corner of her eye. "And even if you did, what can you do about it? Your broke a** cannot help me, so just go, I don't want to talk to you, I came for my mother." "But I'm the one who called you here," Jace uttered, his voice barely above a whisper, nothing he has experienced today has hit him harder than this humiliation. "Just leave!" She yelled" "Get out! I don't want to see you Jace, just go!" Jace held his cheek, his e
