Chapter 21: The Odd Job
“Damien Knox, where the hell have you been?” The man asked Lucas in a deep and stern voice. Lucas eyed the man for a moment, not knowing who he was, but not willing to risk it if he was a man of power in the company. Still, he was the bodyguard of the CEO of the company, he had to show some balls. Lucas took a stance and watched the man, a stoic look on his face.“Who are you?” Lucas questioned the man this time, wanting to know who he was addressing. The man cocked his head at Lucas and stared at him. He wasn’t pissed at Lucas. He was more amused than anything else. He was bigger than Lucas in sheer size alone and who knew how much power he had with his gifts, but for some reason Lucas had the gall to ask him a question. Obviously, Lucas was stronger, but the man didn’t know that. He only saw an average man standing before him."Are you talking back to me boy?" The man asked Lucas, taking a step forward to assert his dominance. The act didn't move Lucas, even though the man was phy
Chapter 22: Tailed
Lucas had gone back to the mansion with Tobias after the work day had ended and, like always, the car ride back was filled with nothing but silence that could be cut with a knife. He had gone back to the room he shared with the rest of his newly found friends of some sort and plopped into his bed once he got closer to it. No one else was in the room, giving Lucas the peace and quiet that he needed. He stretched on the bed, sighing as thoughts about the whole day trickled back into his mind, worrying him even more. What he needed to do could be done, but it was how he would go about it that was the issue. He wasn’t sure which time he would use to go see Nicole again, but he knew that he had to do it soon before the information she had tucked away was gone forever. He couldn’t leave the company building after the berating that Tobias had given him earlier that day. He couldn’t risk it anymore. He would have to go when they were at home, but taking permission from Tobias after he had do
Chapter 23: I Found Out
The cab that Lucas was in pulled up to the King’s Palace in record time. Lucas paid the man slowly and got out of the car, going into the building without any hesitation as his eyes still hovered over the street, catching a glimpse of the car that was still following him up till that point. “Good morning sir and welcome to the King’s Palace. How may I help you?” A cherry female voice spoke up to Lucas, making him focus on her. “I need a table please.” Lucas said to the woman, who gave him a nod and gestured for him to follow her. An action which he did without any hesitation. The woman so graciously gave him a table next to the window, as if knowing that he needed it to keep a watchful eye on the person who was tailing him. As he sat down, she handed him a menu that she carried with her and smiled.“I’ll leave you for a few minutes until you make your choice.” The woman said to him before bounding off to her next table to cater to another person. Lucas pushed the menu away from hi
Chapter 24: Trick
It didn’t take long after the handshake for Lucas and Lennon to call it a day. They had at least established a time frame for where Lucas had headed off to and now that they had managed to somewhat fool the man who had been following Lucas into thinking that the meeting was just to carry out Tobias’ wishes. Lennon packed the files back into his briefcase just as Lucas folded his arms and tapped his foot on the ground. “What are you going to do now?” Lennon asked Lucas without looking his way. Lucas stopped bouncing his leg and looked out the window at where the car was still parked. He frowned and turned to Lennon.“I’m going to put that man in his place.” Lucas replied, causing Lennon to look out the window and then back at him with a smug and, yet look.“You want to approach the person who is tailing you?” Lennon asked Lucas with a look. Lucas stood up from his seat, making the waitress who was coming back to their table stop in her tracks and turn back, already knowing that they
Chapter 25: Bingo
“Now, where is everything?” Lucas asked Nicole with a straight face and eager demeanor. Nicole paused for a second, still trying to weigh her unforeseen options before she sucked up her failure and revealed to Lucas where she had hid all that she had on Emilia and her son. She retreated into herself and spoke without looking him in the eye, feeling defeated. “They’re at a storage unit downtown. Smith’s Locks. I have them saved in locker 223 in the fourth wing. The password is 070399.” Nicole told him.Lucas winced at the password she gave him for the lock. It was her birthday. The day that they always celebrated together when they were still dating. He frowned and shook the thoughts out of his head. He had gotten the location of what he wanted. He didn’t really care about the thoughts of his past. Nor her. Lucas turned away without any more hesitation and walked towards the door, wanting to go to the location she had given him before the time ran out for the day. He couldn’t risk g
Chapter 26: A Problem
After a quick stop at his former apartment in the city, The Big Apple, Lucas headed back to the company building with enough time to spare. On his way there, he texted Braun to let him know that he had gotten what he needed and ordered him to still keep a watchful eye on Nicole. Now that she had nothing else to lose, who knew how she might react, because Lucas was sure as hell that she didn’t trust a word he told her. Still, she would have no place to run to even if she did try to escape. Tobias did have men canvassing the city for her after all. Lucas walked into the lobby of Graham Conglomerate and made his way to the elevator, not wasting any time to greet any of the employees or engage with any questions. He was sure that Tobias was eager to see him and learn of what he had found when he went out of the office that day and boy did Lucas have something to tell him. More of the truth, but there was obviously going to be lies sprinkled in there somewhere. The elevator opened up, al
Chapter 27: An Ally
“Damn it.” Lucas whispered under his breath as he watched Gregory stare at him from the open bedroom door. He shifted the laptop off his leg and used the sheets to cover it up, like he was brushing the evidence of him being on his laptop away from sight. The act only made Gregory more curious as he took a step further towards Lucas’ bed, his eyes trying to tear Lucas down and find out what exactly he was doing in the darkened room. Lucas licked his lips and frowned, his mind already coming up with something to tell Gregory in the heat of the moment. “Uh, I was on a video call with my girlfriend.” Lucas told Gregory as he ran his hand through his hair, trying to seem embarrassed at the question. Gregory immediately took the bait and turned away mumbling an apology under his breath.“Shit sorry. I didn’t mean to barge in like that.” He said as he glanced at the door, seemingly uncomfortable.“No, it’s fine. I should have known that living in a room with four other men was bound to spel
Chapter 28: Making Good on That Threat
“Where do we start, Damien?” Gregory questioned Lucas, the tears on his face all but dried up and a small ray of hope forming in his heart. “Well, I just came across some information that might prove hard for Emilia and Tobias, but I want to strengthen it more and for that I need your help.” Lucas said to Gregory, dreading what he was going to say to the man next.“What do you need?” Gregory asked, bright-eyed and eager to help, but Lucas was not so sure that he would be sold on the plan once he heard what he had to do. It was a long shot and a horrible idea to boot, but it was the only way they could go through with their revenge plan while also making sure that Emilia and Tobias never saw the light of dawn again.“It isn’t going to be easy. For us to have a solid plan against them, then we’ll need to get more proof.” Lucas told Gregory, hesitating to say the rest of it.“And for that to happen, we’ll need proof of what she’s been doing to you.” Lucas declared, watching Gregory and
Chapter 29: Clearing the Air
“Explain to me why the hell you tried to come onto my mother?” Tobias voiced out, pointing his knife at Lucas’ head. Lucas glanced at Emilia and, on seeing her signature smile, he was sure that she was behind whatever lie was told to Tobias. Lucas turned his attention back to Tobias and breathed out as if calming his own temper. He was trying to be calm, but Tobias, on the other hand, was not so keen on doing the same. Tobias’ hands slammed down on the large table, shaking the cutlery, plates and glasses on it and making Gregory, who was in the back, shudder in slight shock. Emilia looked on, her eyes gleaming in anticipation, while Lucas just stared at Tobias with a stoic look.“Answer me you fool. What did you try to do with my mother?” Tobias asked Lucas again, abruptly getting up from his seat. Lucas sighed but didn’t move his ground.“I didn’t do anything sir.” He replied shortly, which unfortunately for him, set Tobias off even more. “You stand by the fact that you didn’t try
Chapter 30: Axel Slade
It took Lucas a total of twenty-five minutes to arrive at the Oakland Police Department. He got out of his cab, sure that no one had followed him on his way there, and approached the building, straightening his signature plain black suit as he did so. The doors to the building seemed to open on command as Lucas stepped closer to them, giving him access to the inner rooms of the coveted building of justice. Lucas walked in, his eyes glancing around the first floor, not really sure where to go from there but sure of who he was meant to meet. He stood in place searching for a man with dark black hair and hazel-colored eyes. A man not older than twenty-four years of age. A man who was known city wide as the police commissioner. Sure, that seemed absurd considering the age of the man and the title that he held, but it was not out of the ordinary, especially if the man in question was bestowed with three gifts and also came from a well-endowed and wealthy family. A family who had strong m
