A threat in heels
“No, I’ll prefer to keep standing, sir, after all, I do not hope to spend long in your office at all,” Axel declined with a wave of her hand. The director shrugged his shoulders and adjusted his sitting position. “Anyways, now that you are back already, I am assuming you already realized how badly you have failed,” he began.Axel didn’t say anything; instead, she bent her head, keeping her gaze glued to the ground and her hands held behind her. “You were given a lot of time for the project work, and then you decided to make a mess out of it. Isn't that impressive, Axel?” he questioned, leaning back on the leather chair. There was a pause, seconds slowly dragged before he decided to continue after not getting a reply from her. His words must have been getting to her already, the corner of his lips curled slightly. Raising a finger, Sterling added, “There is one thing that you should have understood by now, Axel. In this company, talent means nothing in certain situations without th
Poisoned narratives
The day came to an end quite quickly, and Axel could be seen stepping out of her company with two bodyguards walking closely behind her. One of them rushed forward to pull open the back door for her. In little time, they were on the way, leading to her condo. At first, having these two bodyguards come to work with her and also leave with her was awkward, and she had protested against it heavily, insisting that she would be fine, but Ava and Ethan didn’t let her have it. They insisted, and eventually, she had to succumb. A few minutes into the drive, Axel got bored and pulled out her phone from her bag, tapping on a social media app. The first thing that appeared on her feed was a link titled "All about the trending Axel Carden.” Curious, she tapped on the link, and it directed her to a YouTube video. She recognized the creator of the video instantly, he was someone who was quite popular, known by a wide variety of people, given the type of content he was known for posting. The
Another dead end
‘This is not the man’ Those were the first words that made their way to the surface of Ethan’s mind immediately he laid his eyes on the person seated behind a counter. Judging from the way the person dressed, he could tell that he was a receptionist. He had driven down to the shop that is owned by Orion and with a flame of hope igniting his chest that the person he was coming to meet might possess the answers to the mysteries and questions that had filled his head to the brim. Even to the extent that it was literally the only thing he could think about on a free day. “Good day, sir, how may we help you?” the receptionist questioned, pulling Ethan out of his thought process. Ethan walked forward, closing the gap between him and the receptionist. “Orion Asher. That is who I am here to see,” he said, a few steps from reaching the counter. “My boss?” the receptionist questioned, leaning forward. “Yes… given the fact that he owns this place, then we can say your boss.” Ethan answe
An unwelcome reunion
A cab stopped in front of an auto shop, which looked more like a warehouse or one can say a garage. This particular place was popular for one thing, and that was their ability when it comes to cars. This was the particular place where Ethan’s car had been brought to. He paid off the cab driver and made his way into the shop, where he spotted a receptionist busy with a particular person who was standing in front of the counter. He had instructed Ava to let them know that he would be here to pick up his car so that he wouldn’t be left waiting for long. He leaned quietly against the counter, waiting patiently for the receptionist to be done with the man she was busy with. The receptionist noticed someone leaning against the counter and turned her attention to him. "Sorry, excuse me, who or what are you here for, sir?” “I am here to pick up my car, you can attend to me when you are done with the man over there,” Ethan said with a nod of his head towards the man. “That’s common sens

“What is a pauper like you doing here?” Charlotte questioned, a look of disgust in her eyes as she laid them on Ethan. “You are a piece of shit, and I wonder who let you into this place,” Amelia stated, mirroring the same look as her mother. “Oh, I can tell what he is here for,” Charlotte quickly chipped in, snapping her fingers. Amelia turned to her mother, waiting for her to speak while Ethan just stared blankly at the both of them. To him, they were both clowns that were putting on an act that bored him to death. Clowns are supposed to be funny, aren’t they?“Oh, please tell me what’s on your mind, Mother, or I might just die off from suspense,” Amelia stated. “Isn’t it obvious? I thought you would have noticed it already.” Amelia focused, thinking, scrambling her brain. Trying to come up with something. “I can’t come up with something,” “Why would a pauper, someone who could barely afford to feed himself when he was with us, be in such a high-end facility? A mod shop for c
More than coincidence
Lydia stood in front of a section in a supermarket, with her hands resting on the trolley and a tensed expression on her face. After what seemed like forever weighing the cons and pros of each product that alternated with each other in her mind, she finally decided to pick each of them and then moved on to the next section. ‘I can’t be stuck in just one sector forever,’ she muttered to herself. Just as she moved on, a loud announcement was made through the speakers. "Good day, ladies and gentlemen!!!” Everyone who was shopping instantly stopped and turned to look at the loud speakers. The only time the speakers were ever used was when something really important was about to be announced. Today, they were all curious to know what was about to be announced. “We are about to announce our lucky buyer, the one-billionth person, and as you all know how we do our stuff here…” There was a pause that dragged on for far too long, and then drumrolls filled the speaker. T
The perfect act
“Sorry, sorry, my bad,” Crazy Jim snapped out of the little trance that he had been in for a split second, “I was just thinking of how I could put the words together, and I was also trying to remember the exact conversation as it had gone.” “It isn’t necessary that I get the words exactly as they were spoken. As long as I get the idea, then it’s all good,” Ethan replied to him, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. Crazy Jim leaned in closer to whisper to Ethan, “I overheard a conversation among those at the top while I was cleaning an office today, and it seems like a major shipment is arriving in a week.” “Yeah?” Ethan nodded his head, urging Crazy Jim to go on with what he was saying. “From what they were saying… no,” he shook his head, looking into the distance, “They were plotting and planning on another major heist, just like the way they have been doing,” Ethan’s eyebrows slowly narrowed, ‘This is the opportunity that I have been looking for.’ His lips curled s

“What the hell, Ava?!” Ethan whispered yell over the phone while walking towards the cubicle he always spent most of his time in. “I am confused, sir. What is wrong?” Ava asked over the line with genuine confusion in her tone. There was no way Ava would have mistakenly done something so foolish. It wasn’t a mistake, it was purely intentional, and that act heavily affected his cover. No matter how much Ethan would want to believe that Lydia was convinced by his exceptional acting skill, that wasn’t the case at all.“The money you gifted to Lydia. I told you the particular amount of money she wouldn’t receive from you, and then you went ahead and gave her almost that exact amount of money with only a dollar difference?” Ethan asked, still finding it hard that she really did that. "You told me not to exceed a particular amount, and I did just that,” Ava answered defensively. “Why not give a lesser amount, something within the range of three hundred thousand?” “Because I am not in a
The message in blood
Weird and suspicious, that is one way to describe John not appearing at work for his shift and Jane comfortably doing his shift without any complaint or discomfort. In fact, it seemed like she would have preferred if no one noticed it, unfortunately, Ethan had done so. Ethan constantly hit his feet gently on the floor while waiting for the time to roll off quickly. There was the urge to leave work before the day was over and check on John to know if he was alright or not, he was the boss of this place after all, but he couldn't do anything to jeopardize his already shaking identity. Two hours slowly dragged by, or that was what Ethan had thought until he picked up his phone to check the time, and it was just fifteen freaking minutes. “Argh!” He groaned, throwing his head backward. “What do you mean by only fifteen minutes have passed since then?” he frowned. After what felt like an eternity, the office closing hour finally arrived. Ethan dashed into the changing room and chang

“How sure are you that this dude is even going to be able to draw Ethan out?” One of the three horsemen questioned while sharpening his dagger on a piece of rock. A black bandana was tied to his forehead. They were all in an abandoned warehouse with John strapped to a chair, his head hanging low. He seemed to be unconscious. There was a cut on his forehead, but it had been cleaned and taken care of. The one who seemed to be the leader of the three horsemen turned to the one who had just spoken. “He has to. I am guessing that young man Ethan is not someone who would love to be with someone since John didn't inform us of his location. I am pretty sure he wouldn't be at peace if John were in any form of danger at all,” he answered. “I guess you have a really valid point,” the other horseman replied and returned to sharpening his knife. “Steve is yet to get to us. Do you think we should have at least dropped a hint of where we will be or of who has done it at least? The one with the
