Inside Avalon Bar, on the outskirts of the Nile city.
A young man clad in bargained clothes was busy cleaning up the counter to set up the place after it had been busy the previous night, bustling with customers. This had been the job he could get ever since, for years now. Though his salary was low, he still managed to work extra hours just to be able to keep his family intact and settle mostly his wife's bills. Fatigue was written all over his face, and even dark circles were around his eyes while his skin looked so pale, but none of it mattered as long as he was getting extra cash. While he was so engrossed in what he was doing, with sweat gushing out of his pores, a feminine voice echoed. “You must be Ethan Michael, right?” Ethan, the bartender, looked up after hearing the sound of footsteps approaching him. There, he saw a woman clad in a polyester suit, adorned in luxury, looking so exquisite walking towards him. Besides this, she was exuding a powerful aura like a battle warrior. Though any man would stare a hole into her or drool at such a sight, it didn't matter to Ethan. To him, no woman was as pretty as his wife. “Yes, I am. But I am sorry, we aren't open until night.” Ethan looked away and continued his work. However, what happened next shocked him even more. The woman suddenly bowed to him, a stark contrast to what he had expected. “Young master, I have finally found you. It's been so many years, and just when I had almost lost hope, I found you.” The woman who was looking strong-willed suddenly looked like she was paying full respect to him. Ethan was stunned; he stopped what he was doing to look at her, confusion brewing inside him as he furrowed his brows. “Young master? You have finally found me? What are you saying? As you can see, I am a bartender but nothing else. I am just trying to make ends meet and not make any trouble. Please consider using the door before my manager comes over and finds you.” Ethan frowned as she spoke. However, the woman was so determined and didn't budge. “Young master, you are the heir to Nexus Global Group, a conglomerate group worth billions. Please return with me. You don't have to keep doing such demeaning jobs, which are very degrading to your status.” The woman continued. How long had it been since she had been looking for him? So, of course, she was determined to convince him and bring him back with her. Ethan looked at her, utterly speechless. He had no memories of what this lady was talking about, even if he might try faking to believe her words. All he could remember was that three years ago he was found by his wife's father after he woke up from a coma. That man gave him a home, and thus he was able to marry and have a family now. What this woman was saying, none of it made sense at all. “I am sorry. You have mistaken me for someone else. You should leave right away, please, so I can finish my work in peace. Today is my wedding anniversary with my wife. I want to finish up quickly, go home, and celebrate with her. Please leave.” Ethan urged her. Even though he badly wanted to leave this job, give his wife a proper life, and become a capable husband, that wasn't enough to drive him to take on someone else's identity. “I know you don't believe me, but perhaps this can make you remember.” The lady had sadness glinting in her eyes as she walked over and gently placed a ring on the counter. “This ring was left for you by your mother. She wanted you to have it.” Ethan looked only to find a mysterious, ancient-looking ring that had strange markings carved around it. His eyes squinted at it, trying to understand what it was or meant, when the lady dropped a black card close to the ring. “The pin is your birthday. You can try using the card if you don't believe me.” Her eyes became red almost as if she wanted to cry. “It also has a secret number you can use to call me when you need my help. For now, I'll leave.” She turned and reluctantly walked out of the bar. As Ethan watched her, her words struck a chord in his chest. He picked up a ring and looked around it when he realized he had wasted so much time and there were just a few minutes left. “Shit!” He cursed and quickly took the ring and the card and put them into his pocket. Hastily, he took the towel to continue working when the doorbell rang. Ethan frowned, thinking it was someone else who had come to disrupt his work, but when he looked, he was shocked to see a woman who was clad in a suit, looking dignified, beautiful, and hourglass. “Amelia?” His dull eyes sparkled, but then he noticed she was holding hands with another man who was dressed in luxury and had dyed his hair white. He recognized who the man was. He was Logan Hale, a scion of one of the major top families in the city. This man has presumed to be just her business partner all this while, but now this? At once, a frown emerged on his face. Amelia Wilson was the woman he had been married to for three years now, and today was their wedding anniversary. Why was she holding another man intimately like they had been having an affair? Ethan immediately felt like his heart had been stabbed by a thousand needles. “Amelia, what's the meaning of this?” He asked, his teeth almost chattering in anger. “Ethan, you are here.” The woman named Amelia smiled and pulled away from the man to walk to the counter where Ethan was. “I have been promoted to the CEO of Star Crest. I don't think my status matches yours anymore, or if we can keep being husband and wife.” She said bluntly. “Huh?” Ethan felt like he didn't hear correctly. “It seems the punk has some ear deficiency.” Logan huffed as he tucked his hands in his pants, staring at Ethan disdainfully. Ethan glared at him before looking back at his wife. “Amelia, what are you saying?” He asked again. She frowned before replying. “I am so sorry for this, Ethan. I know it's a lot to take in, but it's for the best. I am now a CEO, while you are just a bartender in this lowly bar. I am afraid we have to part ways.” She then pulled out a few documents from her bag. “Sign this. Let's divorce, Ethan. It’s for the best for both of us.”Latest Chapter
Quiet Authority
A bank where the rich and the powerful are the most respected, everyone is judged based on their hierarchy. If one wants to test how valuable and high the society's respect for you is and where it places you based on your wealth and position, Nile Central City Bank is really the best place to come.Ethan paid no attention to the rambling of his ex mother-in-law and his ex sister-in-law. He had already noticed something for quite a long while, and it was that if you do not pay them attention despite everything they do to gain yours, it hurts them like crazy. It was a huge bruise to their ego. But today? Today is going to be different, he isn't going to pay them with silence, he has something better to pay them with.He turned to stare at his mother-in-law, Charlotte, and Fiona. There was a mocking expression on their faces as they stared at him, happy that they'd finally gotten his attention. Gotten to him with their words, finally hurt him where it hurts. Amelia's attention remained
Where regret sands still
“First step,” Ethan exhaled sharply, pushing his hair backward as a look of satisfaction made its way to his face and he picked the bottle of tequila that he had drunk halfway already. The conversation with Jamie could not have gone any better than it did, and a wry smile moved the corner of Ethan's lips upward just as he approached his laptop, unlocking it swiftly.Without wasting any time he inserted the drive that Jamie had given him into the laptop, and he was staring at every detail of Paul in the space of three minutes, but as he scrolled upward, a look of annoyance filled his features.“Interesting,” he muttered under his breath as he found something that raised suspicion. A significant amount of money entered Paul's account on specific dates, and that caused Ethan to pick up his phone, calling Jamie without second thoughts and before he could even shift his gaze to the laptop, Jamie answered it.“I'm listening sir,” he answered with urgency in his tone. “Is there anything yo
Calculated trust
Standing at the far right corner of the office, Ethan noticed the uncertainty in Jamie's eyes even when the latter had already agreed.“You are still doubting your decision, am I correct?” He threw the question at Jamie, pulling a chair towards himself before he took his seat.“How did you know my location the previous night?” The returned a question back to Ethan, and although he was displeased his lips just curved into a smirk, one that was not genuine.“If you were in my shoes, and I was in yours, would you trust me that easily?” The silence stretched as Ethan waited for Jamie to answer, but there was no response, not until Ethan raised an eyebrow.“I won't sir,” he finally answered, clasping his hands behind himself. “I'm sorry for the delay.” Ethan drew in a long breath before he finally let it out with his eyes briefly shut. “I know I don't need to do this, but if it kills your doubt then so be it.” With that being said Ethan took off his face cap and nose mask, dropping it ri
Caught between threats
They all watched the doorknob slowly twist, and with nervousness sitting in their hearts their eyes narrowed, like they were trying to see through the door. Jamie could not hold it any longer, but just as he rose to his feet the door opened, revealing a familiar figure. One that was a threat to them. “Good gods,” that was the only word Gerald was able to push out his mouth, and without another word he rose to his feet, briefly staring at Robert who needed no one to tell him that he should also be on his feet, and he did that without hesitating. “Umm, to what do we owe the pleasure of this visit s–” Robert was forced to shove that word down his throat, and when he realized Ethan was still looking at him he could not help but tear his gaze away from him, moving it to the floor with a hint of panic on his face. “I'm sorry about that sir,” Jamie broke the silence with a slight bend of his head, and he inhaled sharply before raising his head. “I’ll make sure such a thing does not repe
A glimpse of hell
“The chairman?” Jamie asked and let out another chuckle. “What is giving you the assurance that the chairman would even mind dealing with this shit in a way that it won’t lead back to us at all? What is the assurance that he cares at all? What did he do to the security team? He followed them straight to us to let us know that he is with them. They brought him to us.” “Well, that is because he had the power to discard us if we go past our boundary, that is the same thing with the middleman,” Robert said assuringly. Jamie buried his face in his hands for a very brief moment. “How the hell did I get friends like this?” The question was directed more to him than to the two people standing close and on either side of him. “You don’t understand,” Jamie began, raising his head to stare at both of them, his gaze shifting from Gerald to Robert and back, his gaze was burning. Gerald stared daggers back at him, already tired of the back and forth, the words spoken in parables. “Then, tell
A visit foretold
The Cole brothers remained seated in position, except for Alexander who was on his feet, watching Romanov walk out unscathed. Although it had been seven minutes since they let him go, they were yet to say something to one another, and the silence between them had begun to get palpable…not until Adrian rose to his feet, clearing his throat afterward.“We can't let this slide, and I'm not the only one thinking about it right?” Adrian asked, slipping a hand into his pocket. With a gentle nod Anton agreed, tapping his right foot against the floor. “Definitely.”The silence filled the air once again, but that was after Anton and Adrian moved their gaze to Alexander who was still standing in the same position with his hands crossed above his chest, and Anton popped the question, with a little bit of hesitation in his brown eyes that matched his sandy brown hair.“What about you Alexander?”They had to wait in silence as a thoughtful expression masked his face, and with a gentle nod he shi
