Chapter 1

Let's divorce

Inside Avalon Bar, on the outskirts of the Nile city.

A young man clad in bargained clothes was busy cleaning up the counter to set up the place after it had been busy the previous night, bustling with customers.

This had been the job he could get ever since, for years now. Though his salary was low, he still managed to work extra hours just to be able to keep his family intact and settle mostly his wife's bills.

Fatigue was written all over his face, and even dark circles were around his eyes while his skin looked so pale, but none of it mattered as long as he was getting extra cash.

While he was so engrossed in what he was doing, with sweat gushing out of his pores, a feminine voice echoed.

“You must be Ethan Michael, right?”

Ethan, the bartender, looked up after hearing the sound of footsteps approaching him. There, he saw a woman clad in a polyester suit, adorned in luxury, looking so exquisite walking towards him. Besides this, she was exuding a powerful aura like a battle warrior.

Though any man would stare a hole into her or drool at such a sight, it didn't matter to Ethan. To him, no woman was as pretty as his wife.

“Yes, I am. But I am sorry, we aren't open until night.” Ethan looked away and continued his work. However, what happened next shocked him even more. The woman suddenly bowed to him, a stark contrast to what he had expected.

“Young master, I have finally found you. It's been so many years, and just when I had almost lost hope, I found you.” The woman who was looking strong-willed suddenly looked like she was paying full respect to him.

Ethan was stunned; he stopped what he was doing to look at her, confusion brewing inside him as he furrowed his brows.

“Young master? You have finally found me? What are you saying? As you can see, I am a bartender but nothing else. I am just trying to make ends meet and not make any trouble. Please consider using the door before my manager comes over and finds you.” Ethan frowned as she spoke.

However, the woman was so determined and didn't budge.

“Young master, you are the heir to Nexus Global Group, a conglomerate group worth billions. Please return with me. You don't have to keep doing such demeaning jobs, which are very degrading to your status.” The woman continued.

How long had it been since she had been looking for him? So, of course, she was determined to convince him and bring him back with her.

Ethan looked at her, utterly speechless. He had no memories of what this lady was talking about, even if he might try faking to believe her words.

All he could remember was that three years ago he was found by his wife's father after he woke up from a coma. That man gave him a home, and thus he was able to marry and have a family now.

What this woman was saying, none of it made sense at all.

“I am sorry. You have mistaken me for someone else. You should leave right away, please, so I can finish my work in peace. Today is my wedding anniversary with my wife. I want to finish up quickly, go home, and celebrate with her. Please leave.” Ethan urged her.

Even though he badly wanted to leave this job, give his wife a proper life, and become a capable husband, that wasn't enough to drive him to take on someone else's identity.

“I know you don't believe me, but perhaps this can make you remember.” The lady had sadness glinting in her eyes as she walked over and gently placed a ring on the counter.

“This ring was left for you by your mother. She wanted you to have it.”

Ethan looked only to find a mysterious, ancient-looking ring that had strange markings carved around it. His eyes squinted at it, trying to understand what it was or meant, when the lady dropped a black card close to the ring.

“The pin is your birthday. You can try using the card if you don't believe me.” Her eyes became red almost as if she wanted to cry.

“It also has a secret number you can use to call me when you need my help. For now, I'll leave.” She turned and reluctantly walked out of the bar.

As Ethan watched her, her words struck a chord in his chest. He picked up a ring and looked around it when he realized he had wasted so much time and there were just a few minutes left.

“Shit!” He cursed and quickly took the ring and the card and put them into his pocket.

Hastily, he took the towel to continue working when the doorbell rang. Ethan frowned, thinking it was someone else who had come to disrupt his work, but when he looked, he was shocked to see a woman who was clad in a suit, looking dignified, beautiful, and hourglass.

“Amelia?” His dull eyes sparkled, but then he noticed she was holding hands with another man who was dressed in luxury and had dyed his hair white.

He recognized who the man was. He was Logan Hale, a scion of one of the major top families in the city. This man has presumed to be just her business partner all this while, but now this?

At once, a frown emerged on his face.

Amelia Wilson was the woman he had been married to for three years now, and today was their wedding anniversary. Why was she holding another man intimately like they had been having an affair?

Ethan immediately felt like his heart had been stabbed by a thousand needles.

“Amelia, what's the meaning of this?” He asked, his teeth almost chattering in anger.

“Ethan, you are here.” The woman named Amelia smiled and pulled away from the man to walk to the counter where Ethan was.

“I have been promoted to the CEO of Star Crest. I don't think my status matches yours anymore, or if we can keep being husband and wife.” She said bluntly.

“Huh?” Ethan felt like he didn't hear correctly.

“It seems the punk has some ear deficiency.” Logan huffed as he tucked his hands in his pants, staring at Ethan disdainfully.

Ethan glared at him before looking back at his wife.

“Amelia, what are you saying?” He asked again.

She frowned before replying. “I am so sorry for this, Ethan. I know it's a lot to take in, but it's for the best. I am now a CEO, while you are just a bartender in this lowly bar. I am afraid we have to part ways.”

She then pulled out a few documents from her bag.

“Sign this. Let's divorce, Ethan. It’s for the best for both of us.”
