The truth they can't deny
“Is that enough proof for both of you, or do you know any other person that Ava would speak to like this?” Ethan asked and none of the men standing in front of him could provide an answer. “Cat suddenly got both of your tongues or you just lost your ability to speak all of a sudden?” Ethan asked again, after a long stretch of silence. Mike and Ross were still trying to come to realization with what they just heard, there is no doubt about it, everything from the sound of her voice to the things she said were convincing enough, because according to Gideon, their leader, it was Miss. Ava that called and informed him about Ethan’s involvement not the HR, which was quite weird or rather unusual. But the group had all brushed it off as Miss. Ava tried to pass information to Gideon himself, given how valuable he had become to the company instead of passing information through intermediaries or middlemen in the organization. “No one comes to mind,” Ross answered Ethan’s earlier question,
Pawns on the board
Silence settled over the truck like a suffocating weight, but Ethan didn’t rush to break it. Instead, he let it stretch, watching them unravel in the silence. Fear was always louder and overwhelming when no one was speaking. Ethan had them exactly where he wanted. Gideon turned to face Ethan, getting a hold of himself. He hardened his expression, “Let’s act like we all believe that you are the boss. What effect does it have?” Ethan turned to stare at him, a brow raised questioningly. It took Gideon all he had to keep looking Ethan in the eyes and not fold under the intimidating aura that the former was exuding. “Yeah, I mean my q—” Ethan didn’t let him complete his sentence before interrupting him, “Are you so dumb that you don’t know the various negative effects that this will have, assuming I am your boss, which I am. Your boss caught you smuggling part of his goods, and you think nothing is going to happen?” “I think the more reasonable question that I should have asked you
Diving into judgement
There was a smaller van on the other side of the road, this van had no logo on it. It seemed like just a regular one for rentals that was used to transport smaller quantities of goods. That was where the goods were moved to. “Who rides the truck to the place where the higherups want?” Ethan asked as the back of the bigger truck was being closed. Gidoen held the shoulder of his bulletproof vest, staring at Ethan with eyes that were filled with anger and malice, but that was the best that he could afford to do at the moment. Nothing else, except he wants to bring forth consequences that he couldn’t handle not only for him but also for the rest of his team, which he was supposed to protect instead. “It is mostly rotated, anyone can drive it over to the place, but the unspoken rule is that the driver must not be one of the last two or three that drove it over,” Gideon explained. “So, will it be weird if three people drive it over to the spot?” Ethan questioned. “No, we do that at ti
The gathering of the corrupt
The smaller van rolled to a halt in front of a low-rise warehouse, tucked behind a couple of abandoned factories. Ethan was the first to step out of the vehicle, his mask already in place, his eyes scanning the whole area, every shadow, watching out for dangers or anything of the like. There were other vehicles parked in front of the warehouse. The cars were nothing like the van that Ethan had ridden in with the rest of the team; they were all luxurious vehicles. One could tell that the occupants of such vehicles were all freakishly rich. Ethan counted them. Three. He hadn’t expected to meet more than two people here today, but it seems like the heavens have decided to work on his side today and favor them. Judging by the size of each of the cars, Ethan could tell that none of them came here all alone, they would have brought at least a driver and a bodyguard each. He was about to nod his head as he took note, but he paused in place as he noticed two cameras at the edge of each
Audacity of a nobody
Forty-five minutes. That was all it took for all six of the men to carry and arrange the goods in the warehouse. Gerald was grinning from ear to ear as he stared at the goods. “Oh, this is screaming a lot of money!” “I will suggest we be more careful from now on though, because according to rumors, the chairman is returning to active duty soon, and they might want to investigate our acts when it gets too obvious and often,” Jamie pointed out, standing up to smooth the coat he was putting on. “Ah, you know the chairman is returning to active duty soon? How did such information get to you?” Ethan said in a calm tone, not too loud or too low, but loud enough for the three men to hear him. “Seems like I will have to ask Ava to be careful of who she shares information with, given that most of you are snakes.”They raised their heads to him simultaneously. Robert was the first one to speak. “What did you say?” Choosing not to believe that he heard what the recruit said clearly. Jamie wa
No escape, no mercy
"Yes, Ma, I will do that right away, and I will also apologize to him for my ill behavior,” Jamie said, his voice shaking with each word he spoke. He tried to compose himself but was failing heavily at it. The call finally ended, and Jamie slowly took the phone away from his ear, he placed it into the pockets of his coat. The color had drained completely from his face, turning him pale. The remaining two beside him also looked the same way as they noticed that Jamie wasn’t joking at all. He kept staring at Ethan with shock in his eyes, not only shock but fear also. The fear was quite overwhelming, so much so that his knees buckled under his weight, his legs were suddenly too weak to hold him up. He fell to his knees, his head bent. “I am so sorry, pardon me!” He buried his face into the floor, both of his hands placed beside his head. “What is happening here, Jamie?” Gerald asked, seeing Jamie kneel before someone was shaking him to the core. Jamie remained on the floor and didn
An evening with her
Arriving home and after a quick shower, Ethan lay on his bed and pulled out his phone, letting out a tired sigh as he went through his contact list. He owed someone something, so it’s only right that he fulfilled it. Dialing Axel’s number, he placed his phone on his ear as he listened to it ring. It didn’t take long for the call to get picked. “I am so sorry; I was quite far from my phone, so I didn’t hear it ring,” Axel said immediately after answering the call. “No, it is totally fine,” Ethan replied, sitting on the edge of the bed. “You mentioned that you wanted to talk to me earlier today.” Axel took a moment too long to answer him. “Yeah, I did,” she dragged the words out. Ethan went silent for a while; the pattern was quite off.“Oh well, I have been busy all day, and like I promised, I will call you the moment I am done. That’s what I am doing right now." He paused, taking a breather. “I was planning on having a drink at my place after the long day. Do you mind coming over
The man behind the mask
The ride to Ethen’s villa was quite fun as much as Axel had expected. Right now, she was seated on his balcony, watching the stars beautifying the night sky and the bright moon that stood out among them, illuminating the entire area, or it would have at least, if not for the streetlights and lights from various buildings that were already doing the job. Not that she couldn’t have viewed the night sky at her house like this, but it is just that viewing it from Ethan’s balcony offers a very different view and vibe to it. She was so engrossed in staring at the night sky that she didn’t notice the moment Ethan walked in with a bottle of wine and two wine glasses. “Which part of it do you love, the moon, the stars, the clouds, or the whole night sky entirely?” Ethan asked, leaning forward, with his mouth close to her ears. It was sudden, but Axel didn’t flinch, instead, she relaxed into the faint touch that he was offering. “All of them. The entirety of the night sky,” she answered.
Truths and consequences
‘Why should I open up to you?’ ‘Do you think you are that close to me or that you've reached a spot in my life where you deserve to know everything or have the right to ask about anything and expect to get an answer?’Ethan had the urge to ask her these questions, but he held them back, simply because a part of him wanted to answer her request. Open up to her. Ethan let out a deep sigh and threw his head backwards, shutting his eyes for a very brief moment, contemplating whether it really was a good idea to let the lady standing before him know about certain things, starting with the one she was requesting. ‘Well, we will start small and see how she handles this information,’ he said more to himself than to her. He opened his eyes and laid them on the beautiful woman standing in front of him. “Ok, fine, let's imagine that I trust you tonight,” he said to her, and then he adjusted the way he was sitting. “Yes, he is after me and had sent mercenaries to take my life,” he answered
Turning the board
Jamie and Robert eyed Gerald for a while before the former signaled for him to go ahead with a nod of his head. “Let’s flip the board around,” Gerald said. Both of them stared at him with eyes filled with confusion, wondering what it was that he meant. “Stop speaking in riddles and go straight to the point,” Robert hissed after a second had passed and he was unsuccessful at decrypting what Gerald meant by saying they should flip the board around. “Right now, we are the ones being hunted. What I mean to say is that we should swap our situations around and be the hunter instead of the prey,” he explained. Jamie let out a laugh. “We should be the hunter, and who exactly are we hunting?” he asked, tilting his head slightly to the side. “Do you want to hunt the man that can end every one of our lives with just a single phone call?” he asked, narrowing his gaze on Gerald. “Or perhaps what you mean to say is that you want us to kill him straight and not prolong this? " Is that what you
