CHAPTER 1 — The Last Night of Li WeiDrip… drip… drip… The rain pounded the mountainside, drowning out all hope. The mingling scent of blood and wet earth filled the air. Crackle… hiss… thud! Broken armor lay scattered like discarded dreams. Lightning slashed across the stormy sky, casting crimson and azure hues onto the desolation. The world felt as if it were taking its final bow.Amidst the heap of fallen bodies stood Li Wei, a man transformed. His hair sparkled silver-gray despite his youth; his skin, pale and etched with lines of accelerated aging. He gasped, each breath a struggle, as steam curled from his skin. A faint mark of an ancient god burned on his chest. Behind him, the ruined temple quaked with echoes of his victory; he had cleared the Ruins of the Ancient God. But now, his strength waned. His sword clattered to the ground, a final farewell. Clang! He fell to one knee, panting, as thunder rolled ominously overhead. His eyes, calm yet tormented, fixed on the swirling li

The year a strange, almost divine game called LYTABERN descended from the sky and wrapped humanity in madness. People screamed, the air turned crimson, and the heavens cracked open like some broken machine pouring fire and light down to earth.Nothing was ever the same after that. The world's laws shattered. And the only thing that mattered anymore was lifespan.Lifespan became currency.Lifespan became power.Lifespan became everything. If you died, you lost it.If you killed monsters, you earned it back.People called it the new balance , the law of survival. There were two kinds of lifespan: tradable and non-transferable.Tradable lifespan was a living currency. You could sell it, gift it, or exchange it for food, shelter, and weapons. The sound ricocheted off the cramped apartment walls, rolling like a thunderclap that lingered stubbornly.Li Wei remained unfazed at first. He turned his head slowly, calmness radiating in a stormy moment. The chipped coffee cup in his grip shivered slightly. Clink… drip… A dark droplet slipped down, hitting the floor with a soft tap echoing louder than it should. The air thickened, tension like a drawn bowstring. At the doorway stood Li Xue, hair askew, cheeks flushed, eyes aflame. Her chest rose and fell in rapid succession. Hhh… hhh…Barefoot and clad in an oversized shirt, she radiated pure frustration.Li Xue.Li Wei's little sister. She looked younger than he remembered, soft skin, cheeks still blooming with teenage stubbornness. But that storm brewing in her eyes? He recognized it. He had seen it before, the tempest that once consumed t

CHAPTER 4: The End of TiesHiss…The air between them crackled, sharp as a knife’s edge. Li Xue’s cheek blossomed crimson, vivid against her pale skin. Thud… her trembling hand met the mark, her fingers brushed the sting, then recoiled in shock. Her wide eyes, glistening with tears, let them flow freely. Drip… drip… drip… each drop echoed faintly on the cold floor, a mournful symphony in the still room.Words swirled in her dry throat like dust in a storm. “You… you hit me?”Li Wei stood unmoved. His gaze was a steady iceberg, calm, cold, and unyielding. Guilt? A foreign concept. His eyes, sharp like daggers, sliced through her emotions. Crackle… the air vibrated with tension, electric and alive.“I don’t have the time or the desire to argue,” he replied slowly, every word heavy like lead. His tone held no warmth, no hesitation. “If you keep barking, I’ll break your mouth.”Hmph.His quiet exhale whispered through the room. He leaned slightly, reaching for something on the cluttered t

With each measured step, his shadow lengthened behind him, a silent companion in darkness. Screens sprawled across the walls, a dazzling duo of luminous pillars, illuminating the space. The air hummed softly, enveloping the hall in a melody both sacred and surreal. Each towering screen loomed nearly fifteen feet high, displaying a ballet of glowing character cards. They twirled gracefully, as if infused with a spirit of their own. Fwhmmm... buzz... beep... Some depicted warriors wielding swords as long as their bodies; others showcased hunters drawing bows, arrows shimmering with silver light. Mages brandished staves, assassins shrouded in shadow, and knights gleamed in armor, reflecting the hall’s golden glow.Li Wei paused, tilting his head back to absorb the spectacle. His breath crested slowly. Hmm... ahh...“The Choice Hall,” he murmured, captivate

The scent of smoke and aged decay clung to the air. This land was a graveyard for countless monsters. Though she didn’t know his true name, Li Wei, her instincts screamed: this man was anything but ordinary.Hmmm…Turning to her companions, she whispered, “Let’s follow him.”Confusion flickered among her teammates. The team’s assassin frowned. “Follow him? For what?”A smirk tugged at Linda’s lips, her eyes sharp as daggers. “Perhaps we’ll gain insight. Maybe we’ll witness his fight… or his fall.”Pfft…The archer beside her chuckled low. “He’ll meet his end quickly if he strides out there alone.”Linda remained silent, her focus unwavering on the man called Black.Boom… thud…Beyond the town walls stretched a land heavy with silence. CHAPTER 9 Agility Is LifeLinda stood there for a while, her eyes staring at the spot where Li Wei had vanished. The air around her was heavy, and she could still feel the slight pressure of his presence a few seconds ago. Now it was gone, completely gone, like a puff of smoke carried away by the wind. Whooshhh. She frowned and looked at her a few times. "He's gone... just like that?" She said softly, the words almost quivering off her lips. The assassin of her group made a small tch sound through his teeth. That guy, hmm, he just disappeared like mist. Didn't even take a step or sound, pfft, crazy. He scratched his head and glanced around. The grass swayed gently in the cool breeze, and the sky above Leaf Town was grey and cloudy, as if it didn't want to shine for anyone.Linda let out a long breath. After a brief pause, she said, "We can't stay out here any longer." "It's too dangerous. We already died once. If we die again, our life span will be lost forever. The little healer girl

CHAPTER 10 The First Hunt of the Shadow. The air was silent, even more than silent. The grass rustled gently on the legs of Li Wei, a shhhh sound. He narrowed his eyes. He could feel a slight shake, a low rumble on the ground, like something dragging its body slowly through the dirt. Crrkk, crackle, thud.Hmmm. He hummed and looked towards a tall tree in front of him. Moonlight fell on the rough bark and revealed a strange dark shape behind it. He stooped down, and stood motionless. His hand slipped down to the handle of his short blade.Something breathed behind that tree. It was deep, heavy, and wet. Hrrhhh, sssk, gulp. The sound made the skin of Li Wei tight. Then he saw it, a crawler. The skin of the monster resembled melted tar - slick and dark. It was low and twisted in its body, and its claws plowed the ground with each movement. The crawler should have been a normal level one monster, but this one was different. Its body throbbed with weird flickering light; it was developing.
