CHAPTER 6 — Shadowborn

Crackle… hiss… boom…

The air shivered, as if it bore witness to thunder’s birth within the hall. Darkness erupted, wrapping around Li Wei like liquid fire, alive and pulsing with energy. His shadow danced upon the floor — fwoosh… crackle… — swiftly twisting upward, coiling around him like a sentient serpent, until it encased him in an enchanting cocoon of night.

Li Wei gritted his teeth. “Ahhh… hhh…” His body trembled, while his heart drummed a relentless rhythm — thud… thud… thud… — as raw energy surged through his veins. The darkness seeped in, burrowing deep beneath his skin.

Then, the transformation began.

Strand by strand, his hair surrendered its color. The inky black gave way to a chilling, luminous white. Shhhk… flutter… The silken strands floated lazily in the shadow’s embrace that filled the room. His skin dulled slightly, taking on a glimmering gray hue, reminiscent of polished steel under flickering light. Clothes cracked apart, crumbling to dust — shhhh… — scattering like memories lost to the wind.

From that dust, something new emerged — an exquisite creation of the shadows.

Dark threads of energy spiraled upward, whipping around him with fervor, merging into a sleek, midnight-hued outfit that hugged his form perfectly, sharp lines whispering danger in every curve.

Behind him, a cloak unfurled, heavy and flowing. Fwap… fwoosh… It rustled like the wind in an empty cavern, its edges shimmering faintly, tattered as if adorned with the scars of past battles.

Above his head, a hood sprang forth from the shadows, pointed and low, casting half his face into a realm of uncertainty.

He was no longer a mere man.

He had become a creature born of darkness — calm, silent, and perilous.

If eyes had beheld him then, whispers would’ve drifted like smoke; he resembled a figure from the old Assassin Creed movie — serene poise, lethal presence — yet darker still. Every inch of him engulfed by shadow.

Li Wei slowly opened his eyes. Hiss…

His pupils glowed a razor-thin silver, reflecting the golden glow of the hall. The light carried no warmth — merely the chill of enhanced stillness.

“This… is the shadow class?” he murmured.

The voice of the system responded without hesitation — divine, unwavering, and omnipotent.

[Profession Upgrade Complete: Shadow Assassin — Hidden Class Unlocked.]

[Authority Source: Eye of Judgment.]

Beep… buzz…

Words glowed in the air, and Li Wei stared, echoing silence enveloping him. His mind crackled with static.

He understood the gravity of this moment. Every profession within LYTABERN harbored secret evolutions — ascensions few mortals could fathom. Many had battled and perished, years spent chasing these elusive upgrades.

Yet here he stood, victorious in the hall, already transformed.

Hmm… tsk… unbelievable…

The Eye of Judgment — the artifact that had reshaped his destiny.

Li Wei lifted his trembling hand, studying it. His heart drummed insistently — thud… thud… thud… — pulsing in time with newfound power.

“Just obtaining this class grants me more strength than my previous self ever had,” he whispered.

The system voice continued.

[Information: The Eye of Judgment holds the Primordial Authority of the Universe.]

[Power surpasses all rules and order temporarily.]

[User cannot activate it manually due to lack of divinity.]

[Passive effect: Active.]

Li Wei’s eyes widened slowly. “Primordial… authority?” he stammered, breath hitching — pfft… hhhh… — thoughts whirling like a tempest.

A memory from his past life surfaced.

Seven years after LYTABERN’s descent, one man broke all limits, stepping into the Realm of Order. That was when the world first learned about the Power of Order — the divine force governing everything.

Yet, even that man had never truly possessed it.

Now, Li Wei grasped something far greater — an ancient force, pre-dating even the Power of Order.

Hmph… tch… unbelievable…

He gazed at his hand once more. Dark smoke coiled from his palm. Hiss… crackle… The black light twisted and hissed, faintly flickering like a living flame.

“So this… is what I was meant to have,” he whispered.

His heart steadied, thoughts sharp and alive.

If he could persevere… rise to the Realm of Order… gain divinity, then the Eye of Judgment would awaken fully. When that moment arrived, its primordial power — the genesis of all law and creation — would be his to wield.

That was his mission now.

His reason to exist.

The true beginning of his second life.

The floating screens around him began to vanish, one by one. Beep… buzz… fwoosh… Each light dimmed until only one glimmered — a solitary glowing box beckoning him.

[Please Enter Game Alias:]

Li Wei remained contemplative. Hmm…

He pondered for a moment. His real name? No… that belonged to his past life. The one who died in trust. The one who lost everything.

Now, as he regarded his black-gloved hands and the dark cloak that billowed behind, clarity emerged.

He raised his head slightly and spoke with calm precision—

“Black.”

[Alias Confirmed: BLACK.]

BOOM!

Light exploded around him. Whummm… crackle… hiss… The hall vibrated as the glow consumed him wholly. His figure blurred, dissolving into streaks of black smoke.

The air cracked open, and he vanished.
