Chapter 1
“I need a useful man.”Those words flowed flatly from Rachel Corriere’s lips without hesitation. In her hand, a sheet of white paper was pushed across the glass table in the spacious living room. The man in front of her fell silent. He was Areskael. His hand, which had been holding a teacup, froze instantly. His gaze dropped to the bold letters at the top of the paper.Divorce Agreement.“What do you mean by this?” he finally asked.Rachel crossed her arms over her chest. Her beautiful face looked cold, without the slightest trace of guilt. “Don’t pretend to be stupid. Three years is more than enough for me to put up with a useless piece of trash.”“What do you mean?” the man asked quietly. “Rachel, can’t we talk about this properly?”“For what?” Rachel let out a small, mocking laugh. “For three years of marriage, what have you done, Ares?”She stood up, looking her husband up and down. “You wake up early, clean the house, cook, then sit around waiting for me to come home. That’s all.
Chapter 2
“What else, Mrs. Rachel?”Ares’s tone was flat. There was no anger, nor any pleading in it. That form of address made Rachel’s hand, which was still gripping his arm, stiffen instantly.“Listen to me,” Rachel said sharply. “Take your trash belongings first. Don’t leave a single cheap item of yours in this house.”Ares looked at the woman’s face for a moment. The face he once loved now felt unfamiliar. He gave a small nod.“Very well, Mrs. Rachel.”Without waiting for any further response, Ares turned around and walked up the stairs. The sound of his footsteps echoed softly through the large house. In the room he had occupied for three years, Ares paused for a moment. His gaze swept across the simple space that stood in stark contrast to the luxury of the Corriere residence. He opened the wardrobe, took a few pieces of clothing, and put them into the black backpack he had been using for a long time. There were not many items. Almost everything belonged to him from before the marriage.
Chapter 3
“Stop talking so much, Ares. Leave now!”Rachel’s hard shove made Ares lose his balance. With his body already battered, he had no chance to steady himself. His back slammed heavily against the terrace floor.“Ares!” Rachel cried out reflexively, but she quickly covered her own mouth.Ares’s body did not move. His face was pale, his eyes closed, his breathing barely audible.Rachel stared at him for a few seconds. Her heart pounded. She stepped closer, then stepped back again.“Don’t… don’t die here,” she murmured in panic. She turned toward Max. “He… he’s still alive, right?”Max frowned, then snorted. “He’s probably just unconscious.”Rachel swallowed. “Tell him to wake up so he can leave quickly. I don’t want any trouble.”But Ares remained motionless. The next second, the world around Ares changed. He saw the sky begin to tremble. But it was not the city’s night sky. It was a vast sky split apart by dark crimson light. Ares stood on an endless battlefield. The ground was filled wi

The ambulance siren stopped right in front of the Emergency Room entrance. The rear doors opened, and the medical staff immediately pushed the stretcher out.“Female patient, mild head injury due to impact,” one of the medics reported quickly. “Blood pressure stable, briefly unconscious.”Ares stepped down from the ambulance and followed from behind. His steps were still slightly unsteady, but he tried to walk normally. The ER doors opened automatically.“Take her to Observation Room One,” a nurse ordered.Ares stopped outside the boundary line. He stood there, watching from a distance as Elara was taken inside. His chest felt slightly tight, though he did not know why.Several minutes passed.Ares sat on a waiting chair. His hands rested on his knees. Without realizing it, his fingers trembled slightly.“Strange…” he murmured softly. He closed his eyes for a moment. Brief images appeared again. A vast battlefield. The sound of war horns.A heavy pulse in his chest, as if something we
Chapter 5
Ares stood frozen for several seconds in the hospital lobby. His chest rose and fell irregularly. The word pregnant kept echoing in his head.Without thinking any further, he quickened his steps.“Rachel!” he called out loudly.Rachel, who had just walked a few meters with Max, immediately stiffened. She turned around with a shocked expression, then it changed to irritation when she saw who was calling her.“You?” she said coldly. “What do you want now?”Ares hastened his steps and grabbed Rachel’s wrist.“Are you pregnant?” he asked firmly. “Answer me. Whose child is it?”“Let go of me!” Rachel slapped his hand away harshly. “Don’t touch me!”Several people in the lobby began to look over. Max stepped forward, standing in front of Rachel with a mocking expression.“What is this?” Max sneered. “A poor man daring to harass my wife?”Ares did not look at Max. His gaze remained locked on Rachel.“Answer me,” he said in a low voice. “If you’re pregnant with my child, that divorce is inval
Chapter 6
Ares was still sitting on the sidewalk when thirst struck again. His throat was dry, his stomach twisted faintly. He swallowed several times, but there was nothing to swallow.“Calm down… don’t die yet,” he muttered while massaging his temples. He half-stood, then sat back down again. His vision spun slightly. He had not eaten anything since the afternoon, and his body still carried the lingering pain from the beating earlier.“Idiot,” he said to himself. “Just surviving is already hard, and I still managed to cause trouble.”The sound of a car engine approached slowly.Ares lifted his head, slightly alert. A black car stopped right in front of him. The window rolled down, revealing Tom’s calm face.“Ares,” Tom called briefly.Ares fell silent for a few seconds. “Tom?”Tom stepped out of the car without wasting words. “Get in.”Ares frowned. “Get in where?”“Into the car,” Tom answered plainly. “Now.”Ares stood up, hesitant. “Where are you taking me?”Tom looked straight at him. “Mis

At exactly eight in the morning, the atmosphere in the Cole mansion began to feel alive. Sunlight streamed through the large windows of the living room as Ares stood awkwardly near the sofa. He had been awake since dawn, but he did not know what to do other than wait. The main door opened.Elara entered with calm steps, wearing a simple yet neat outfit. A long-sleeved white blouse paired with dark slacks, her hair tied low.Ares straightened his posture instinctively.“Good morning, Miss Elara.”Elara turned her head. “Morning, Ares.”She stopped a few steps in front of him and glanced at Ares briefly, then frowned.“Where are you going dressed like that?” she asked flatly.Ares reflexively looked down at the T-shirt and pants he was wearing. “To the civil registry office.”Elara raised an eyebrow. “The civil registry office?”Ares nodded. “Yes. To take care of the divorce certificate.”Elara fell silent for a moment. “In clothes like that?”Her tone was not mocking, yet it made Ares

The car had just left the civil registry office area when Elara’s phone vibrated. She glanced briefly at the screen, then answered the call.“Yes, Tom.”Tom’s voice sounded slightly tense on the other end.“Miss, there’s a problem. The board of directors is calling for an emergency meeting. Right now.”Elara frowned. “An emergency meeting?”“Yes. Several senior directors have already gathered. They mentioned the financial report and the Athena Project.”Elara straightened her back. “I’ll be there immediately.”She ended the call and turned to Ares, who was sitting beside her.“We’re going to the office,” she said shortly.Ares did not ask any further questions. He only nodded and sat up straighter. The car changed direction toward the business district. The Cole Group building towered high, its glass reflecting the morning light. As soon as they entered the main lobby, the atmosphere felt different. Several employees whispered quietly. Their faces looked tense.Tom was already waiting

Chapter 9“You said you couldn’t fight! But what was that just now?” Elara repeated her question. Her words hung in the air. The car kept moving, the sound of the engine steady, as if nothing had happened a few minutes earlier.Ares glanced at her briefly, then returned his gaze to the road ahead. He scratched the back of his neck slowly. He was genuinely confused about what he should say.“I… honestly don’t know how to answer that,” he said truthfully. “That was probably just a reflex.”Elara stared at him for quite a while. “What did you say? Just a reflex?”“Yes,” Ares replied quietly. “I don’t even remember how I moved against them. It sounds ridiculous, but that’s the truth.”Elara did not respond immediately. She leaned back against her seat and looked out the window. Her face looked calm, but her eyes clearly held many questions.Tom, who was driving, glanced at them through the rearview mirror. “Forgive me, Miss Elara,” he said cautiously, “but that didn’t look like a reflex.
Chapter 10
Chapter 10The night grew deeper. The guest room lights had been turned off, leaving only faint moonlight slipping through the gap in the curtains. Ares lay flat on his back, staring at the ceiling. His eyes were closed, but his mind was far from calm.At some point, the sounds around him disappeared.Everything felt dark. Then a loud crashing sound echoed. Ares opened his eyes, but it was not the room he saw.The sky burned red. Black clouds twisted violently. The ground cracked, filled with rubble and blood.“The Ninth Heaven is collapsing!”The voice echoed. Ares looked down. His body was clad in black-and-gold armor. His hand gripped a long spear drenched in blood.“This…” he murmured. Before him, thousands of gods stood in formation. Their faces were tense, wounds covering their bodies.“Areskael Valdyr!” someone shouted. He turned. A sword-wielding god ran toward him. “The left flank is nearly collapsing! The God of Chaos has breached the third defense!”Ares lifted his head. Hi
