“I need a useful man.”
Those words flowed flatly from Rachel Corriere’s lips without hesitation. In her hand, a sheet of white paper was pushed across the glass table in the spacious living room. The man in front of her fell silent. He was Areskael. His hand, which had been holding a teacup, froze instantly. His gaze dropped to the bold letters at the top of the paper. Divorce Agreement. “What do you mean by this?” he finally asked. Rachel crossed her arms over her chest. Her beautiful face looked cold, without the slightest trace of guilt. “Don’t pretend to be stupid. Three years is more than enough for me to put up with a useless piece of trash.” “What do you mean?” the man asked quietly. “Rachel, can’t we talk about this properly?” “For what?” Rachel let out a small, mocking laugh. “For three years of marriage, what have you done, Ares?” She stood up, looking her husband up and down. “You wake up early, clean the house, cook, then sit around waiting for me to come home. That’s all. For the past three years, I’m the only one who’s been working day and night. And you?” “Yes, I know. I can only take care of the house while you’re busy working,” he replied calmly. “I’ve tried to find a job, but I always get rejected. Do you think I want to be unemployed? And why won’t you hire me at your company? Why do you always—” “Enough!” Rachel cut him off sharply. “The company forbids husband and wife from working in the same company!” Rachel said firmly. “And now I need a well-established husband, not a jobless husband like you. Three years is enough! Consider these three years as compensation for the fact that you once saved my life from death.” Ares clenched his fists on his lap, then slowly relaxed them again. “Rachel, calm down first,” he said patiently. “Let’s talk properly. I know your company is having problems. I can help.” Rachel snorted. “Help how?” “I’ll find a way. I—” “Tsk.” The sound came from the direction of the door. A middle-aged man entered with heavy steps. His expensive suit contrasted sharply with the contempt on his face. Mr. Charlie Corriere, Rachel’s father, stopped right in front of the table. He looked at Ares as if he were trash. “You?” Charlie spat on the floor in front of his feet. “Trash like you wants to help the Corriere company?” Ares lifted his head. His gaze remained calm. “Papa Charlie, I’m serious. Give me time. I’m sure I’ll get a job soon. Give me time.” “Time?” Charlie laughed harshly. “Our company needs massive investment, not empty promises from an unemployed man like you, Ares.” Rachel laughed along. “Papa is right. I’ve already given you three years. Now that’s enough!” “I’ll find a job. I’m sure I can—” “You already had three years,” Rachel cut in sharply. “And the result is zero.” Footsteps echoed from the stairs. A woman in her fifties came down with an equally cold expression. Mrs. Maryam Corriere glanced at the man briefly before moving closer to her daughter. “That’s enough, Rachel,” Maryam said. “There’s no need to drag this out. Just divorce this trash of a man.” The man took a deep breath. He could feel his chest growing warm, something inside him surging, but he held it back. Ares looked at Rachel, hoping the woman he loved would take back her words and not listen to her mother. Then Rachel looked at him for a moment before giving a cold smile. “I really was stupid! To think that three years ago I married a useless man like you. Huh, I thought you’d get a decent job, turns out I was wrong.” She pointed at the letter on the table. “Sign it. Now.” “Rachel,” he said softly. “Are you sure about this decision? Are you sure you won’t regret it?” That made Rachel burst into laughter. “Me? Regret leaving a useless man? Hahaha… Impossible.” Charlie chimed in, “Sign it quickly and get out of this house. Don’t disgust us.” Ares looked at each face in the room. Not a single one defended him. No one hesitated. Everything had already been decided before he was even given a chance to speak. “There’s only one thing I want you to remember,” he said, still trying to remain calm. “I never hurt you.” Rachel stepped closer, her face full of irritation. “Enough. I’m sick of hearing your nonsense.” She shoved his chest with her palm. “Sign it now.” Ares staggered a step back. His hand slowly reached for the pen on the table. His fingers trembled slightly as they touched the paper. “You know,” he said, looking at Rachel’s name printed on the document, “I truly intended to help you.” “Nonsense,” Rachel replied quickly. “After this, I’ll marry a rich man, a nobleman’s son. He has already agreed to help my company.” The room fell silent for a moment. Ares gave a small nod. “So that’s the reason.” “Yes,” Rachel answered shamelessly. “He’s useful. Unlike you.” Ares took a breath, then signed the paper with one firm stroke. After that, he crumpled the document in his hand. Rachel extended her hand. “Give it to me.” Ares threw the paper onto the table, right in front of Rachel. “Are you satisfied?” Rachel took it without hesitation. “Very satisfied, Ares.” Ares stood up. His posture was straight, his gaze steady. There was no longer any attempt to hold on. “Don’t regret it,” he said shortly. Charlie laughed mockingly. “Get out. Never come back.” The man walked toward the door. When his hand touched the handle, he paused for a moment, then turned around. “I hope this decision truly saves your company,” he said flatly. Just as Ares was about to open the door, Rachel suddenly grabbed his hand. “Wait, Ares!” Ares brushed Rachel’s hand away, then faced the woman who was now his ex-wife. “What else, Mrs. Rachel?”Latest Chapter

Ares stood not far from Elara. Since the incident with Rachel, he had been paying closer attention to the movements around him. Not out of excessive suspicion, but because his own emotions were unstable. He was no longer sure what was normal and what was not.Elara was conversing with several important guests. Her demeanor was calm, professional, and fully controlled. But that calm was slowly disturbed.Three men in expensive suits approached. From the way they stood and laughed, Ares immediately knew their intentions were not entirely clean.“Miss Elara Cole,” one of them said with a wide smile. “So we finally meet in person.”Elara turned toward them. “Good evening. I’m sorry, have we met before?”“Not yet,” the second man replied. “But we’ve long wanted to establish cooperation with the Cole Group.”“We’ve already sent a proposal,” the third man added as he stepped closer. Too close.Elara maintained her smile, though her tone began to cool. “Please contact my office. Today is not

Chapter 19Before they realized it, the wedding day of Rachel Corriere and Maxim Wilson had finally arrived. The wedding hall stood magnificently in the city center. Crystal chandeliers hung from the high ceiling, white flowers were arranged neatly along the aisle, and guests from the business world and distinguished families filled the room. The atmosphere was festive, yet orderly and refined.Ares stood beside Elara, dressed in a simple black suit. His face was calm, but his mind had not truly been present since earlier.“You didn’t actually have to come,” Elara said softly without turning her head. “I could have attended alone.”Ares shook his head slightly. “My duty is to accompany you.”Elara glanced at him. “You don’t mind?”“No,” Ares replied briefly. That was not entirely true, but he chose to remain silent.Tom approached from behind. “Miss Elara,” he greeted respectfully. “Many guests are waiting to offer their greetings.”Elara nodded. “Alright.”As Elara moved further insi

Chapter 18Ares returned to the restaurant about ten minutes later. His steps were calm, his expression controlled, as if nothing had happened. The restaurant lights were the same, the crowd was still lively, and the atmosphere remained warm. Nothing had changed—except him.He saw Elara sitting at a table near the center of the room. The woman was opening a thin folder containing client documents, but it was clear she was not truly focused. Several times, her gaze flicked toward the entrance.Ares approached.“Miss Elara.”Elara turned quickly. Her brows lifted slightly. “Where have you been?”Ares pulled out a chair and sat down. “Sorry. Nature suddenly called, so I rushed to the restroom.”Elara looked at him for a few seconds, as if weighing something. “You disappeared just like that.”“I panicked, so I didn’t have time to say anything,” Ares replied calmly.Elara let out a small breath, then nodded. “Our associate is still on the way. He said he’ll be a little late because of traf

Chapter 17That afternoon, Elara closed her laptop earlier than usual. She stood up from her chair and straightened the light blazer she was wearing.“Ares,” she called.Ares, who was standing near the archive shelf, turned around. “Yes, Miss?”“We have to meet a client,” Elara said. “A restaurant in the city center. It won’t take long.”Ares nodded. “Alright. I’ll come along.”The journey went quietly. Elara spent most of the time checking messages on her phone, while Ares looked out at the road through the car window. His thoughts were still tied to the ongoing audit, but he tried to stay focused.Upon arriving at the restaurant, a waiter escorted them to the inner area. The place was crowded, yet not noisy. Warm lighting, neatly arranged tables, and the aroma of food filled the air.Elara stepped forward first. “Our client is already inside.”Ares followed behind. But after only a few steps, his gaze stopped. At one of the tables near the window, Rachel Corriere was sitting across

Chapter 16The internal audit officially began the following morning.Since early morning, the atmosphere at Cole Group had changed drastically. There were no more casual conversations in the hallways. Managers walked faster than usual. Some employees appeared uneasy every time the audit team passed by.Elara stood behind the glass wall of her office, observing the activity outside. Her hand held a tablet containing the initial reports that had just come in.“The finance division looks the most shaken,” said Tom, who stood beside her. “Some staff have even requested sudden leave.”Elara smiled faintly, without humor. “That’s a good sign.”Tom nodded. “Pressure makes people careless.”A knock sounded at the door.“Come in,” Elara said.A female auditor entered carrying a thick folder. “Miss Elara, we have found further anomalies.”“From which division?” Elara asked quickly.“Procurement and subcontractors. There are intermediary accounts that were never officially reported.”Elara exha

Chapter 15Elara’s car stopped right in front of the main building of Cole Group. The tall glass-covered structure looked the same as usual, but today it felt far more oppressive.Elara stepped out first. Her face was calm, but her stride was firm. Ares and Tom followed behind her, Tom carrying the folder and tablet he had routinely held since accompanying Elara.“Today’s agenda focuses on Project Athena,” Elara said as they walked toward the entrance. “I don’t want any other discussions for now.”Tom nodded. “Understood, Miss.”Inside the meeting room on the upper floor, several directors were already waiting. Their expressions were serious. Some even looked tense.Elara took the main seat. “Let’s begin.”One of the directors opened the presentation. “As we discussed previously, Project Athena has experienced a six-week delay. Operational costs have surged, while progress on the ground has not been proportional.”Elara interlaced her fingers. “Technically, this project is still very
