Chapter 71
71. Adrian didn't know when he fell asleep, but when he opened his eyes, everywhere was still quite dark. He couldn't see anything save for a faraway glow which was coming from a torch lit by one of the dungeons guards, no doubt. He adjusted himself and sat up. He could hear nothing the faint dripping of water somewhere. There was still some dried blood sitting at the corner of his mouth, and his ribs hurt like hell. The guards hadn't held back when it came to beating him. Adrian leaned his head back against the cold stone wall and let out a sigh. "System." He muttered weakly. The screen came on. "What is the status on these strange restraints?" [MAGIC-SEALING CUFFS DETECTED.][LIMITING OUTPUT: 92%.] Adrian clicked his tongue. "How annoying of them." He shifted slightly, ignoring the pain shooting through his side. "Anything else? Are there any hidden functions?" [WARNING: RESTRICTED ACCESS.] He smirked. If they thought that was enough then they were fools. "
Chapter 72
72. The room stayed silent after Henry's question. No one spoke about it or said anything. Even the healers looked away as they didn't want trouble. Princess Sue stood there, staring at him like she didn't recognise the man in front of her. "You're unbelievable. I always knew you were annoying but this is beyond evil." She hissed. Henry raised a brow. "Careful." "No, you be careful!" She snapped. "This is not how a prince behaves." "This is exactly how a king behaves, and that is what I am." Henry corrected. "You're not king yet." "I will be anyway, does it matter at this point? Look at my father! And that man who did this to us all, this is a cross I must carry." She clenched her fists. "Adrian is not guilty." "Are we still on that?" "Yes, we are!" She went down and stood toe to toe with him. "He saved your father right in front of you!" "And then he killed him right after. What's your point? We went over that with one of the rejects already." Henry
Chapter 73
73. Adrian sat on the cold floor, his back against the wall, his head slightly lowered. Breathing still hurt very much for him and he had been drifting in and out of sleep. But now his eyes were clear. He was a man who had lost almost everything, there was still a chance. "System." He sighed. The screen came up before him. [STEALTH MODE ACTIVE.] [MAGIC-SEALING CUFFS: 88% SUPPRESSION.] He clicked his tongue. "Still so annoying." He hadn’t expected it to be so slow. He flexed his fingers and the cuffs glowed, pulsing back again, like they were still active and fighting him back. "Push it again." [WARNING: HOST CONDITION WEAK.] [FORCEFUL OVERRIDE MAY CAUSE DAMAGE.] "Do it anyway. I just need to be free of them.” He said. The system didn’t show a screen or anything, but he heard a small crack, followed by another again. He smiled as the screen showed up. [SUPPRESSION REDUCED: 89% - 69%.] "Very good, continue with the initial." He rolled his shoulders, ignor
Chapter 74
74. He could hear something when he opened his eyes. Drip. Drip. Drip. “Water?” Adrian asked himself as he sat up. He had no way of knowing if it was daytime or night, but it was the first time he had heard something other than himself, random guards, or an ominous wailing sound coming from somewhere. All he could do was think and fall asleep to regain his energy. Or whatever was left of it. He suddenly heard a clinking sound and the sound of something hitting someone’s head followed by a groan and a thud. Adrian became alert immediately! What was that? He heard quick but soft footsteps. An ordinary person wouldn’t be able to hear such, but he did. It was followed by a choking sound before a body hit the ground. "System. Why haven’t you informed me that I’m in danger?” [NO DANGER.] The response shocked him. “What is going on?” [MULTIPLE HOSTILES DETECTED.] [STEALTH SIGNATURES PRESENT.] "Assassin types, then.” He sighed. “I wonder why they want to kill me.”
Chapter 75
75. The air felt cleaner and free as they went higher. Adrian couldn’t believe how much he had missed breathing in fresh air. He rolled his shoulders as he walked through the narrow passage, and the annoying weight that had been sitting on his chest since the cuffs were locked on him was gone now. All he had to think about were other issues. The masked assassin walked ahead of him, leading the way with silent signals. Another one walked behind him, watching their backs. "Eat." The one behind him muttered, tossing something forward. Adrian caught it without looking. It was bread. Barely soft, but he didn't complain. It was much better than nothing. "Water?" He asked. A flask was pushed into his hand and he drank a lot immediately, sighing. "Don't finish it." Adrian stopped drinking. His body screamed for more, but he stopped himself. "System.” He muttered. [SUPPRESSION REMOVED.] [CORE FUNCTIONS RESTORED: 61%] [ENERGY LEVEL: LOW BUT STABLE.] He could notice
Chapter 76
76. "Answer me! If you can't answer responsibly, then you must get out of my way!" No one could speak. The healers looked at each other, unsure of what to say. The woman with the dagger tightened her grip, but her hand trembled just a little. "You're asking us to trust you? How do you think we can?” She asked. “If you’re a truly honest man, you’d understand our dilemma.” "I’m not asking for trust, I’m telling you to stop wasting time." The chamber doors flew open and everyone turned to see princess Sue walk in furiously with the hooded alchemist behind her. "What the hell is going on in here? Why isn’t anyone doing anything?” She demanded. Suddenly, her eyes fell on the man in tattered clothes before her. "Adrian?” She said in shock followed by relief. "You're alive..." She breathed. "Barely, your highness. And we don't have time." The healers quickly rushed toward her. "Your highness!" One of them said. "You need to order him out immediately!" "He b
Chapter 77
77. Adrian had his hand pressed against the king's chest, his body shaking as the mana transfer was in place. Adrian was genuinely surprised that he lasted this long, but he knew he couldn't even dream of stopping. Blood kept dripping from his nose and mouth and he could barely see what he was doing with his blurry vision. None of that deterred him, though. He knew what he wanted and wouldn't stop until he got it.He couldn't. "Don't stop, please!" Princess Sue shouted, her voice breaking. "Whatever you're doing, please don't stop!" "I told you already..." Adrian said, his voice heavily strained. "If I stop he dies instantly. I can't do that to him!" The healers stood frozen now. No one dared to touch him again, as they were afraid of the possible outcome. The king's body convulsed violently again and a loud whipping sound was heard as a bright red vein appeared and burst open. Dark and red energy leaked out of it all over the room. "It's spreading again!" A healer sc

78. The room felt like it was about to collapse and everyone had fallen despite having held on to something initially. Adrian was the only one remaining in his initial position, but his body shook so badly it looked like he would fall apart any second. At least the king's convulsions had slowed. That was proof of progress if anything. Adrian sighed. “And you wanted me to abandon the king.” He said. "Wow, look!" One of the healers’ assistants pointed. The king's body, which had been jerking violently moments ago, now only trembled very slowly. The healers were all surprised, it was like someone had performed a miracle. The dark veins and markings on the king weren't spreading anymore. No, actually they were decreasing, leaving their ugly forms to whatever. Someone tried to touch him but Adrian roared at them. “IT’S TOO SANGEROUS!” He basically screamed. “I won’t save you if you get it out of idiocy.”The healer removed his hand, muttering a weak apology. "He stab

79. The room was still shaking when the doors burst open. “I knew that something fishy was going on in here!” Prince Henry stormed in, followed by armed guards. His cloak was right behind him, and his face was morphed into this evil thing. Not to mention his eyes. He did not look pleased to say in the least. "Someone tell me what the hell is going on in here!” He demanded. No one answered him, but from the hurrying, to the king on one bed and Adrian on another, one could tell that there was a lot going on. Henry saw Adrian just then laying down and his boiled. “HIM!” He exclaimed. “Who is responsible for this traitor being here? No wonder these things have been happening, it’s all him doing it!” Princess Sue was instantly pissed off. "Henry, shut up and look around you! This isn't the time for your nonsense!" "Nonsense?" Henry repeated, letting out a short, cold laugh. "The palace is under attack, the city is in a state of chaos, and the man responsible is lyin

80. Deep beneath the capital, where no sunlight could reach, something big was happening. Massive circles carved into stone lit up one after the other as the tremors started. Energy from different sources and channels came in a large mass, all heading into one large chamber that had been kept hidden for so long. But now it was time.— Meanwhile, in the palace the walls continued to shake and the tremors persisted. Largely, the place stayed in one piece but ceiling bits kept coming down and the walls were cracking. "How many times is this place going to fucking shake?" A healer asked. “We have to leave!” "Until we all die, probably.” Another muttered. “Either way, it’s not fallen yet so we might be safe.” Princess Sue ignored them, her eyes and mind fixed on Adrian. He hadn’t even twitched, let alone waking up. "Adrian.” She whispered, touching him. Kingdom saved or not, she wanted him to be okay. He hadn’t even slowly become one of her closest friends and she had so many
