Chapter One (1): - The Girl With Blue Eyes
The streets of Lekki, Lagos The rain was drizzling now, pouring lightly from the night sky. September rain. The kind that never really ended. The streets were not particularly empty, but it wasn’t as busy. There was the tap-tap sound of Adam’s foot against the floor as water splashed with every step. But it was light. Almost inaudible. Chapter Two (2): - Remilekun Makinde
There was a loud thunder clapping sound and a brilliant flash of blue electricity as the man got struck by Adam’s attack. He rocketed backwards, the electricity charge paralyzing him and sending him back with bullet speed until he struck a truck with tremendous force and everything exploded in a blast of electricity. Adam sighed “Normally, I’d take the stronger guy out first, but it doesn’t matter when I’m up against much weaker opponents” He turned back to Remi and saw the astounded look in her face, and then smiled at her to ease her tension. “Sorry if I scared you by going too harsh with them. Chapter Three (3): - Day One (1)
THREE MONTHS AGOCCA HEADQUATERS,MAITAMA, ABUJAUNDERGROUND CONTAINMENT09:30AM There was the steady thump-thump sound of his racing heart as the computer beeped faster. One scene played in his head countless times, over and over. The car screeched and ran straight into a truck, smashing headfirst and flipping effortlessly into the air. The explosion was inbound, definitely going to happen. They could see the heat waves from the tank and the car, then it happened. A rocking blast of fire that shook the entire perimeter. It was this explosion scene that kept playing in his head. Over and over, and over again. Until it stopped. Then his eyes snapped open. Chapter Four (4): - Day One (2)
As he locked eyes with the captain, the electricity around him exploded and he moved. The captain’s eyes widened as he activated his own technique “Barrier art; Locking cage!”. His opponent’s steps were slowed before his eyes, and as he stretched out his palm towards him, a dense, pink barrier formed a cube around the calvary and locked him in. Over in the observation room, a young doctor clad in a white robe, walked over to a group of security guards watching the fight scene from the CCTV footage. He could see the berserk calvary, a young man probably in his very early twenties that was wearing dreadlocks. He arranged the frames of his glasses as he observed closer, electricity was crackling violently around the calvary. His expression changed to surprise, then to delight, he grinned widely. “Will you look at that? Today is my lucky day. What’s the serial number of that calvary?” he asked one of the guards. Chapter Five (5): - The Missionaries
The days passed briefly as Adam quickly grew accustomed to his new environment. Big D was more of a friend than a superior, and Kabir was everything else; mentor, chef, doctor and whatever else there was. He was trained to harness his ability, something he quickly adapted to since he had undergone a berserk awakening. And he had even had combat sessions with Big D. On a sunny Wednesday morning, doctor Kabir received a summon from higher authorities, and he left the lab to Adam and Big D. Time passed slowly as the boys sat in one part they cut out as the living room and watched TV. Chapter Six (6): - The First Raid
FLOOR 32 SUITE-04 CCA HEADQUARTERS, ABUJA 7:00PM It was late evening, all the missionaries summoned had gathered together in the suite. They were calvaries of different kinds, some young while others were more mature. It was evident though that they all were still in their youth when they died. None seemed to be older than 30yrs old. Adam scanned through the room, different people filled it, nonetheless with very intriguing abilities. He wondered what each person’s ability would be. He turned to Glassman “Are these all the missionaries?” “These are the ones summoned for this mission. Barely a fraction of our true number. In a country as large as this, getting figures is relatively easy” Adam nodded “So everybody here has a unique ability” “Not necessarily. Chapter Seven (7): - “I Quit!”
PRESENT DAY The next morning came late and cold, Adam was already up and sitting at the bedside table. He wore only shorts with no top on and he was scrolling through his phone. There was a cup of steaming hot chocolate on the table and just when he held it, Remi stirred awake. She was covered with a blanket and when she rubbed her eyes, she remembered where she was. “What time is it?” she asked, still sleepy. Adam didn’t bother looking back, he slurped from his cup of hot choco, “7:15 am. Still sleepy?” he asked “Not anymore” she stirred some more and removed the blanket, that was when her senses suddenly came back to her and realisation dawned. She screamed! Adam jumped at the shrill, sharp sound of the high pitch scream and his hot choco splashed all over the wall. “What is it?” he exclaimed in alarm. Chapter Eight (8): - The Eko Raid
Adam appeared inside doctor Kabir’s lab, sprawled on the floor like a corpse. He appeared like a flash of lightning first, then took human form, instantly. Kabir was alarmed when Adam flashed into existence, but when he saw him sprawled on the floor with the deep wound, fear rushed into his eyes. He rushed over and carried Adam from the floor and into one of the rooms where Big D was. “Shit!” Big D exclaimed “What happened to him?!” “I’m yet to find out myself” Kabir replied and immediately commenced treatment. A couple hours later, Adam stirred and his eyes opened slowly. He looked around his immediate environment, this was not his hotel room. Alarmed, he jumped to a sitting position and looked around more, he was sitting on a hospital bed and wearing a kind of blue paper gown. “How did I get back here?” he asked himself, he was not wrong, he realised it as dr. Chapter Nine (9): - “What do you fight for?”
Banks stood glaring at the black bodies of the three men, he had burnt them to black crisp, if that was even a thing. “I knew that last guy was a barrier calvary” he said to himself “always the most annoying guys”. The lights flicked and the glass bulbs exploded to shards, shutting off the lights in the lobby. He turned around and saw three silhouettes take form in the darkness. He was still in his black suit and tie, complete with cover shoes to match. “You still have a thing for making entrances, don’t you, glassman”. The backup lights came on; solar powered LED lamps that had a soft glow.
