  FLOOR 32

  SUITE-04

  CCA HEADQUARTERS, ABUJA

  7:00PM

It was late evening, all the missionaries summoned had gathered together in the suite.

They were calvaries of different kinds, some young while others were more mature.

It was evident though that they all were still in their youth when they died.

None seemed to be older than 30yrs old.

Adam scanned through the room, different people filled it, nonetheless with very intriguing abilities.

He wondered what each person’s ability would be.

He turned to Glassman “Are these all the missionaries?”

“These are the ones summoned for this mission. Barely a fraction of our true number. In a country as large as this, getting figures is relatively easy”

Adam nodded “So everybody here has a unique ability”

“Not necessarily. Most abilities are a repetition, I’m sure you’re aware of that. So many of them here have similar abilities. But it doesn’t make their combat techniques the same. Each man has a unique combat technique that makes us, missionaries, stand out. Among us missionaries, only very few have rare class abilities, of which I am one. And you have officially become part of”.

He rose and all the missionaries turned to him

“Welcome everyone” he began his welcome speech “You’ve already been briefed about tonight’s mission and its details. Before we go any further, I’d like to introduce our newest member and my junior hand man. Adam, the 4th lightning king”.

Their gazes moved, awe evident in their eyes as it landed on him.

Adam rose gingerly, unaware of how to address them.

“It’s you, isn’t it?” one of the missionaries said and stepped forward, he had a close resemblance to someone Adam knew, but couldn’t exactly place who.

“You’re the new lightning king, aren’t you?” the missionary said “The 4th user of electricity in the entire world. My name is Jerry, sometimes called the clone. My ability is cloning”

“Uh…nice to meet you, Jerry” Adam replied and shook his hand “I’m Adam”

“I know who you are” Jerry replied “you’re the one who beat my brother to a pulp a while back. On the day you respawned”.

Adam wasn’t sure of what Jerry was saying, but then a sudden memory flash made him recall the event and he saw the resemblance in their faces now.

“You’re…” he gasped “you’re the security captain’s brother! I’m terribly sorry!”

“It’s alright” Jerry replied “We died on the same day and were respawned together, but he happened to be much weaker than me in terms of combat. His barrier technique is solid though, I’ll give you this, breaking through it was no small feat. Welcome to the missionaries, Adam”

“I’d like to welcome you too, junior hand man” another voice said and muscular man walked up to him

“My name is Scatter, a calvary of equal standing as Jerry”

  “Nice to meet you…”

“I’m not done yet” Scatter cut in “As junior hand man, you naturally deserve our respect. So I’ll ask only once, do you really believe you’re a lightning king yet? With all due respect, junior hand man, the missionaries are the best of the calvaries in this country. Positions here are earned”

Adam locked gazes with the man “Scatter, was it” he said calmly “poking your opinion without being invited is actually classified as rude. It’s hardly nice, is it? You have tons of experience and I suppose by that experience, you know not to judge a person from the cover”

Glassman smiled briefly, Adam had replied quite boldly.

“Enough of the introductions” he cut in “Jerry. Please relate the details, again”

Jerry stood in front of a projector that blared the face of one man on the white board “This is Sen. Akin Makinde, the man we’re after tonight…”

After the operation was reviewed in every possible detail, Glassman took the stage “You all know the figures on this man. He’s worth over a hundred billion Naira. The average share for each participating man is five million. Adam gets the final job done, so his share is ten million Naira. If that is clear, then gentlemen, let’s move”

They teleported to the location, a reserved vacation home somewhere in Kubwa, FCT, Abuja.

Meanwhile, inside the vacation house, senator Akin Makinde had arrived only an hour earlier and was settling in.

His chefs and cooks were busy, as well as all other staff and the security personnel.

He was on a call with his daughter, “Yes” he said into the phone “It’s alright if you can’t make it tonight. Finish whatever you’re doing, okay? It’s a 3-day vacation so I’m alright if you’re not coming today anymore……… alright dear, take care of yourself” then he ended the call.

He barely had any idea, it’d be the last call he’d make

Outside the enormous building, at the other side of the gigantic gate, the missionaries each began twinkling into appearance like flashing stars.

  Finally, Glassman and Adam appeared.

Glassman turned to Adam “You don’t know how to use teleportation?”

“Not yet” Adam replied “But I’ll soon grab the concept” he added with an idiotic smile.

Glassman sighed, then turned to the rest “There’s at least fifty armed men in here, let’s make the encounter brief and finish the job” they nodded.

He turned back to Adam “You. Blast open the gate, let’s make an entrance”

As the security personnel’s patrolled around the yard of the house, there was a sudden loud buzzing and crackling sound.

Blue light flashed briefly from the direction of the gate and they all turned their attention to it.

Then there was a sudden loud crackling boom, a deafening roar of thunder that blasted the entire gate to pieces.

Adam stood with his right hand outstretched and electricity crackling in his hand, to his own surprise, there was a dagger in his grip, one that had an elaborately designed handle and what seemed like with wolf skin directly in-between the blade and the handle.

“What’s this…?” he asked confused “How did this dagger get here?”

“Pocket space” Glassman replied “some calvaries have the abilities to take out certain objects and weapons from a pocket in space, and store other objects in there. So far, only one lightning king has showed that capability. And it’s not Douglas”

The security men stood in shock as they gazed across the destroyed gate, they had been petrified by the incident too much to even move while Glassman was explaining.

Then as the missionaries began stepping forward, the men’s eyes widened, this was a full-fledged attack.

“It’s an attack!” one of them yelled “Open fire!”

They began shooting sporadically, their rifles rattling as the bullets ricocheted off their cases.

Adam’s arm was still outstretched and his eyes crackled again. The dagger in his hand vanished and he opened his palm.

Suddenly, all the bullets hit an invisible wall and came to a halt in front of the missionaries, all held together by visible lines of electricity.

Electricity was crackling all over his body and the security men froze, what kind of devil was this?

Frankenstein’s gaze shifted slightly ‘Electro kinesis’ he thought to himself ‘the ability to forcefully activate electric charges in objects and control them in a way akin to telekinesis. Truly impressive’

Jerry stepped forward as the security personnel gawked with incredulous faces “Let’s make quick work of them, shall we?”

He moved, his speed as fast as a bullet, and in an instant, he was before one of the men.

The man stumbled backwards and shot, but something unnatural happened.

As the bullets struck Jerry, his body seemed to glitch and he split into a dozen clones.

The security man yelped in confusion and all the rest turned around and opened fire. But the clones seemed to be immune to bullets, in fact, they were faster and they made clockwork of the men.

Sweeping through them, the clones killed them by snapping their necks and breaking their bones.

By the time he was done, the clones came back into one body and Jerry turned his head to them, smiling.

Adam stood frozen to the spot “He killed them” he heard himself whisper

“Would you prefer they kill him” Glassman replied and stepped forward “Let’s go”.

They burst into the main house and were first visited by a shower of bullets.

Before Adam could act, another calvary had used his technique to create a large force field in front of them that stopped the bullets from coming through. They cascaded on the wall of the force field.

“I’ll take it from here boss” Scatter said and grinned, then stepped forward.

As soon as the bullets stopped coming, the force field broke apart and Scatter activated his technique.

His eyes shone crystalline blue and a tattoo in his arm, an equal arm cross, shone with a white light.

  “Scatter ice art; Ice mayhem”.

Three snowflake symbols appeared on the floor and wall each, then suddenly, large ice spikes shot out of them and stabbed through multiple officers, impaling them and freezing them to death instantly.

The rest of the officers were frozen stiff, paralyzed by the power that these monsters had.

Glassman sighed and took off his hat, his head was bare, no hair because it was an awesome stitch work of skin and flesh.

On his forehead, there was also a tattoo of an equal armed cross. He stepped forward “As always Scatter, you tend to be rather, aggressive”.

Adam studied the similar tattoos that they both had, then turned to Jerry “What is that tattoo?”

“It’s a mark of brotherhood” Jerry replied “the sign of the missionaries. Anywhere you see one, it means that person is one of us”.

Frankenstein’s tattoo beamed and there was a sudden loud cracking sound.

Then the bursting sound of glass followed as all the glass objects in the entire house burst to pieces and their shards, swam to him.

Adam was in awe, he understood now, as the glass shards swam to Frankenstein who was beginning to levitate, why he was called Glassman.

Glassman rose higher off the floor and the shards of broken glass began swimming around him, then began spinning at a hyper fast pace. So fast that they transformed into a bright gleaming pink light.

The violent force of this spinning light began shredding things in the room. The wall, the shelves, and even awards.

Adam turned to Jerry again “This is a really amazing ability” he said

Jerry concurred “Solomon Frankenstein is one of the few people in the world of calvaries with an ability unique to only themselves. The ability to manipulate glass to unimaginably desired effects rests with only him. That’s why we call him glassman”

Jerry looked to Frankenstein, then back to Adam “At this point, you’d like to lay flat on the ground”.

Adam looked around and saw that everybody was going flat on their belly, something glassman was about to do was probably terribly powerful.

He concurred, and went flat on the ground.

The spinning beam of pink light paused for a second or thereabout and everything seemed to enter slow motion, then Glassman spoke “Glass art; exploding glass”.

The explosion that followed was rocking and grand.

A massive beam of light that tore through everything and completely erased everything it touched. Only those underneath Frankenstein were left untouched, and those were the missionaries.

Adam opened his eyes and saw that the missionaries were slowly coming to their feet.

Then he saw it, each and every one of them had the mark, the equal armed cross that served as a sign of brotherhood between them.

They went to the 2nd floor, that was, the top of the house and burst into the senator’s room to find the senator, a lanky man, with around a dozen other security officers.

Before the security men could act, the remaining missionaries took them out and left only the senator.

Frankenstein looked at the man who was shaking beside himself “Please, don’t do this! I don’t know what you people are, but you can’t do this to me”

“Why is that? Senator Makinde?” Glassman asked.

Makinde’s eyes brimmed with a new fire “It won’t change anything! What I’ve started won’t stop! It will never stop!”

Frankenstein smirked ‘the perfect speech’ he thought to himself, then turned to Adam “you see that, he’s a wicked unrepentant soul. Now is your part of the job. Imagine how many people he has brought endless suffering. Use that to fuel your rage, and kill him”.

Adam was already mad at the man, terror financing would never stop?! How could a person be so terribly!

A ball of electricity formed in his palm and his eyes crackled with blue electricity “electric art….” he closed the gap between him and the senator in an instant and rammed the electric ball into his chest “flash bomb!”

There was a loud clapping explosion of thunder and when it died down, the senator had struck the wall and died on the spot. His body and internal organs were burnt black from the intense heat generated from the flash bomb.

Adam stood like a raging titan in front of the senator “I hate people like you” he said to the corpse “People who will stop at nothing to achieve their own personal desire”

Glassman smiled “You’re officially one of us now, Adam. From now on, we will call you, the storm bringer. My junior hand man, Adam, 4th lightning king, and storm bringer of the missionaries”.

Adam turned to him with electric brimming eyes “I’m keeping it” he said coldly “If I catch anyone who does injustice to innocent people, I’ll bring a storm straight to their doorsteps”.

Glassman smiled and turned around “Everyone, the job’s done. Let’s go”

Kabir was still explaining things to Adam “They contacted the one person who had access to bulk of the nation’s funds in liquid cash. The governor of the Central Bank” Adam’s gaze was riveted into the screen, everything Kabir was saying told him that his father had a deep connection to the CCA. He caught his breadth before speaking “You’re telling me, that my dad went deep into all this, because his friend’s wife had been killed six yrs earlier by the missionaries? Isn’t that a bit vague?” “Your father had his personal grudges” Big D replied “Take for example, the disappearance of his four siblings when he was still a teenager. That remained a mystery till he died. In pursuit of what might have happened to them, he discovered the CCA. He had no idea however, that he was biting a lot more than he could chew” “My father’s siblings disappeared?” Adam was getting a bit confused and more curious now “What happened to them?” “Your dad was beginning to suspect that the CCA were beh

The moment the shots rang out, lightning tore across the dark sky and thunder exploded overhead. Rain dripped. One. Two. Three. Then it began pouring fervently. The bullets must have passed through to the other side of his skull, because blood sprayed out on both sides. He could have avoided the bullets, blocked them, or even caught them if he wanted, but he was frozen stiff in disbelief. Blood streamed own his forehead; over his eyes, and the rain drenched both of them just like the night he had saved her. This time, he was staring down the barrel of a gun. Remi gritted her teeth in frustration, then yelled “You! You bloody murderer!” She shot multiple times again. One bullet tore through his shoulder. Another struck the other arm. Then three more ripped into his chest. Adam coughed out blood and gasped for breadth as a bullet punched his heart. He dropped to his knees, blood pouring from his entire chest. Fear filled him as he raised his gaze and met Remi’s crying ey

THE NEXT DAY Remi stood in front of her dressing mirror and exhaled loudly, letting go of some steam. Her cheeks were red just from imagination. A kind of giddiness swept through her body. She exhaled again, gaining a bit of composure. “Putting everything aside” she thought to herself “all the mystery surrounding dad’s death and everyone suddenly forgetting Adam, I haven’t felt this way in a long time” She flashed back on the night when Adam had saved her from the two calvaries. “Seeing Adam again after such a long time, especially after everyone’s forgotten him; I can’t help but feel hot inside me. Sure, we were close before his death, but we were too busy with all this calvary wahala to tell each other our feelings. We couldn’t get lost in emotion” She picked up a comb and ran it through her hair once “But, when he died, I realized I had lost a part of myself that I neglected. It’s a miracle that he’s back, but we’ve lost so much in this period” She dropped the comb “His

  • CHAPTER TEN (10) PART TWO (2): - THE CLOSE

Adam stared at Banks as the heat wave gutted at his clothes and burnt the concrete and steel around. His gaze was calm and unwavering, to kill such a man; Big D’s words echoed in his mind again “If you ever take a life, remember it weighs heavily on your shoulders” “Every man lives once Adam!” Banks roared, his voice like a raging volcano “you and I, and all the calvaries, are just living on borrowed time. True freedom for me now, is going back to where I came from”. Adam sighed, he knew what Banks meant. He closed his eyes as he drew in a long breadth, then exhaled, letting himself feel the heat. Then, he flung them open, and they were no longer ordinary. Both eyes were glistening with crackling blue electricity. He pinned his gaze on Banks and raised his right hand towards him, stretching out his palm wide. Electricity clapped brilliantly around him, crackling violently and coming in front of outstretched palm to form a small sphere. The sphere of electricity compressed h

Something amazing happened. Fire seemed to crackle briefly in reality itself and Banks vanished instantly. Less than a second later, he appeared before Adam, attacking with his palm straight for his opponent’s chest. In front of the palm, there was a brilliantly bright spinning ball of fire. It was transcending flame, becoming something like almost bright yellow light. Adam’s eyes widened in terror ‘how did he get here without me seeing him? He’s almost lightning fast’ Banks roared out the name of his final technique before he struck “Stellar!” The ball of flaming light struck Adam with rocket force, but just before it hit him, he crossed his daggers in an X in front of him, trying to form a shield. The ball of light exploded in a powerful beam the moment it struck him and blasted him straight through the entire lobby and straight through all the rooms to the very wall of the building. The entire first floor lit up in a brilliant yellow light like a solar flare a

  • Chapter Nine (9): - “What do you fight for?”

Banks stood glaring at the black bodies of the three men, he had burnt them to black crisp, if that was even a thing. “I knew that last guy was a barrier calvary” he said to himself “always the most annoying guys”. The lights flicked and the glass bulbs exploded to shards, shutting off the lights in the lobby. He turned around and saw three silhouettes take form in the darkness. He was still in his black suit and tie, complete with cover shoes to match. “You still have a thing for making entrances, don’t you, glassman”. The backup lights came on; solar powered LED lamps that had a soft glow. Glassman stood there with Adam and Jerry by his side. “Banks” he said calmly, then his gaze moved to the three dead calvaries, their bodies were vaporizing. “Did my ice calvary not even put up a fight?” he kissed his teeth “I knew I should have come with Scatter instead. But he’s no good when it comes to stealth” “Neither was this one” Banks interrupted “He glared at me. You know h
