UNDERGROUND CONTAINMENT
09:30AM
There was the steady thump-thump sound of his racing heart as the computer beeped faster.
One scene played in his head countless times, over and over.
The car screeched and ran straight into a truck, smashing headfirst and flipping effortlessly into the air.
The explosion was inbound, definitely going to happen.
They could see the heat waves from the tank and the car, then it happened.
A rocking blast of fire that shook the entire perimeter.
It was this explosion scene that kept playing in his head.
Over and over, and over again.
Until it stopped.
Then his eyes snapped open.
The moment his eyes snapped open, there was a loud shattering sound as the glass around him broke into hundreds of shards and burst into the air.
He had been inside a portable, cylindrical glass coffin.
Inside, there was a steel bed and his arms were cuffed to the bed.
The moment his eyes snapped open, electricity burst out of his body and burst the glass to hundreds of shards.
The cuffs also broke apart and he rose immediately to a sitting position, gasping for air.
The scene played again in his head, he was sure he had died, so what was this, how on earth was he still alive?
His perception came to him slowly, he looked around and realised he was in a white room.
An extremely large white room, and all around him, there were hundreds of shorter glass coffins.
“What is this place?” he asked himself. “Where am I?”
Suddenly, doors burst open and opened and armed men began pouring in.
They were holding all sorts of heavy duty machines guns and all aimed directly at their target; him.
“Do not hesitate to neutralise the subject!” one of them barked “his readings are extremely high and he’s undergone a berserk awakening. Use any means necessary to neutralize him!”
Adam was confused and tried to stand up, but before he could make another move, dozens of bullets were already flying his way.
The sound of the bullets, dozens of them, reeling off their case and tearing through the air, alarmed him.
Fear settled in.
His eyes buzzed with crackling blue electricity, and in an instant, he vanished.
Before the security men could react, and even while the bullets were still in trajectory mid-air, he blitzed through them.
His movements were like a violent thunder storm.
Lightning clapped before their eyes only for an instant before he appeared and delivered the blow to their face.
His body had sensed danger and it was moving in self-defence.
Pure instinct.
Electricity criss-crossed through the men, smashing into them and blasting them away to the far edges of the room.
More soldiers poured in, flooding in like water.
From the instant they rushed in, they opened fire, trying to follow the movement of the crackling blue electricity that he was moving like.
“Do not seize fire!” the commanding officer barked as he released his rounds.
“I repeat, do not seize fi…”
For a brief instant, he saw it before it made impact.
Not the calvary’s face, just a fist that seemed to appear out of thin air, crackling with electricity.
Then the fist rammed into his face, crushing his nose and immediately sending him flying backwards and crashing into the wall.
“Commander!” another officer yelled and glared at the calvary “All you damn calvaries!”
He cocked his weapon, a heavy duty laser gun.
It gleamed briefly before releasing a massive red laser beam that shot straight at the calvary.
Instinct acted again, his body knew how to defend.
He stretched out his palm and the moment the fat, racing, laser beam got to him, it hit a force wall of pure electricity.
The officer was beyond flabbergasted ‘He’s holding it back…just like that!’ he screamed inside his head “Go to sleep, you damned monster!”
He roared and increased the tenacity of the beam, but even as he fired harder, it only burnt in a brilliant light as soon as it touched the electric force wall.
Then it happened, the calvary vanished from sight and was behind the officer in less than second.
The officer’s eyes widened, horror filled them.
Before he could react, the calvary caught him by the collar, then lifted him and smashed him headfirst into the steel floor.
His eyes turned white as he instantly lost consciousness, his entire body now pressing a dent into the steel floor.
Still, more security officers poured in.
He wasn’t acting of his own accord again, his body already k new how to use this strange ability, and it was fighting for survival.
The quickest way to thin out their numbers was to shut out more incoming officers.
With his eyes still crackling with blue electricity, he turned towards the door, then he jammed his palms together and a wall of electricity instantly sealed the door shut.
More officers came, but the door was already sealed.
They couldn’t touch the electric wall or they’d be electrocuted, so they opened fire on it, but the effect was neutral, they couldn’t get through.
One of the security men tapped his earpiece and spoke “He’s shut us out! We can’t get in!”
The earpiece crackled roughly and the receiver replied “It’s alright. He’s a quick witted newbie. But he’s still an amateur. At least I’ve gotten in, leave the rest to me”.
The receiver was inside, a young man in his mid-twenties wearing a special uniform.
He looked at the raging calvary and chuckled “My job’s usually boring. Maybe you can finally make it interesting”.
He took two steps towards the calvary, strapped on his gloves and smiled “Another calvary in the room. You’ve finally met your match, newbie”
In an instant, he flashed before the raging calvary, moving like the wind and covering the gap between them at the speed of sound.
His fist was tightened and a pink aura was emanating from his body.
He was going tom take this guy out by surprise.
But as soon as he threw the punch, the calvary’s eyes diverted towards him and he turned around.
Spreading out both palms, he held back the punch from the captain of the security guards and the sheer force blasted the air apart.
The captain smiled, “I knew it” he said calmly “You’re the one who’s going to end my boredom!”
The next minute, a flurry of attacks came flying in.
Dozens of jabs, flying kicks, roundhouse kicks, the captain sent them all mercilessly at his opponent.
The hits were quick and precise, nothing short of professional martial arts.
He, the calvary, was reeling back, barely managing to keep up in terms of a well-coordinated defence.
His eyes darted left and right as he watched the captain’s deadly and precise move.
Too fast.
But slowly, surely, he was beginning to keep up.
He began by defending against the quicker attacks.
Jabs and straight kicks, perfectly avoiding them or directly countering.
His speed increased, he was almost on par now.
Everything was coordinated, the unnecessary movements began to decline.
The captain smiled as he swung mid-air, ‘he’s keeping up. He’s beginning to adapt to my attacks’ he said to himself.
He twisted mid-jump, grinning widely as a sweat drop left his forehead ‘then let me turn up the heat!’
He delivered the next kick, swifter and more brutal than ever, and it was all his opponent could do to shield himself as the kick smashed into him from the right and sent him flying towards the end of the room.
The security guards remaining in the room were amazed, their captain was really doing it.
The calvary caught himself halfway through the length of the room and jammed his legs into the ground.
As he rose his gaze, the captain was racing at him, eyes locked like a bird of prey.
At that last instant, he forced himself to bend backwards, so low that as the captain got to him with a flying kick, it swung right above him and even the captain himself sailed past him.
Shock registered in the captain’s eyes ‘he reacted to that! I should have known! It looked like his ability was electricity. When was the last time the CCA respawned someone like that? Twenty years ago? Maybe more. I have to supress him!’
He landed and spun around instantly, throwing a punch straight tom his opponent who had risen completely.
But the reaction speed was no longer on par, his opponent had adapted, and had become faster.
Their fists locked as the calvary threw his own punch and the air split instantly from the intense wave.
Their gazes were fixed on each other, but the captain couldn’t deny the fact, his opponent had gotten stronger.
His gloves had shredded from the impact and as further proof, electricity was now crackling in the eyes of his opponent.
The next instant, before the captain could make his move, the calvary released a flurry of attacks, all powered with dazzling blue electricity.
Jabs, kicks, round houses, striking with enough precision and power to force the captain into a defensive state instantly.
His eyes widened in surprise, his opponent was almost invisible to the ordinary eye.
His speed and strength was quickly overwhelming and he was being forced back steadily.
‘What’s this?!’ he cried inside his head ‘his attacks weren’t this precise before! What’s going on?! Is he...mimicking my own moves? Impeccably!’
The next punch forced him to cross his hands in front of him, yet, it pushed him back and he easily flipped over; smashing into the ground and quickly coming back to his feet to avoid a surprise hit.
‘Impossible! But if that’s the case, then at this point he should…’
Electricity crackled before his eyes and he stamped his feet into the floor.
He knew the next attack would be the roundhouse kick to the left, a devastating move.
He lifted his left arm to create a shield at his left side as his opponent sent the roundhouse kick.
But his confidence level dropped instantly when he saw it; the crackling blue electricity in the calvary’s eyes suddenly changed to a spark of red and everything else seemed to black out.
‘What is this darkness?’ he asked himself ‘overwhelming…darkness’
The kick came, smashing into the left arm shield with such brute force that a loud crashing sound was heard.
The captain felt it and his eyes widened in horror.
The moment he was hit, his entire left arm, shattered completely.
The impact of the kick was thunderous, sending the captain rocketing backwards and smashing immediately into the sea of glass coffins at the other half of the large white hall.
The security guards had their eyes wide open, they couldn’t believe it, their captain had been forced back.
Brutally even.
Electricity buzzed and sparked briefly as the electric components of the glass coffins failed.
The bodies were on life support and the coffins were the only thing preserving the awakened calvaries that were still in a state of coma.
The captain sat on the floor, resting his back on one of the destroyed coffins.
He was bleeding from a long cut on his forehead, and he left side of his body was slowly soaking with blood.
His own blood that had come from the breaking of his bones and bursting of his blood vessels.
His eyes were almost blank and he stared at the bare, glistening floor.
His was gazing at his own reflection and the pool of blood slowly forming.
‘What is this feeling of despair?’ he asked himself with a whisper in his head ‘how can a calvary like me, feel so helpless against a newly awakened calvary? Is there such a power gap between us already? Is that so? It’s true isn’t it, that true power is purely based on natural selection and luck. No matter how much I train my reinforcement and barrier technique, I can never be as powerful as those already selected for top tier’
He slowly got on his feet and rose his gaze to his opponent.
The calvary was almost growling now, blue electricity flying violently from his body and his eyes suddenly sparking with red electricity.
‘Huh’ the voice whispered in his head again ‘he’s really going berserk this time. But this is my job. I’m the captain! I won’t be going down without crushing you too!’
The calvary glared, his hair was in dreadlocks, floating on his head as electricity sparked and crackled violently around him.
The electricity in his eyes was turning red, his body’s instinct was turning to rage.
He could feel himself losing control completely.
As he locked eyes with the captain, the electricity around him exploded, and he moved.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN (14): - MEMORIES
Kabir was still explaining things to Adam “They contacted the one person who had access to bulk of the nation’s funds in liquid cash. The governor of the Central Bank” Adam’s gaze was riveted into the screen, everything Kabir was saying told him that his father had a deep connection to the CCA. He caught his breadth before speaking “You’re telling me, that my dad went deep into all this, because his friend’s wife had been killed six yrs earlier by the missionaries? Isn’t that a bit vague?” “Your father had his personal grudges” Big D replied “Take for example, the disappearance of his four siblings when he was still a teenager. That remained a mystery till he died. In pursuit of what might have happened to them, he discovered the CCA. He had no idea however, that he was biting a lot more than he could chew” “My father’s siblings disappeared?” Adam was getting a bit confused and more curious now “What happened to them?” “Your dad was beginning to suspect that the CCA were beh
CHAPTER TWELVE (12): - TRUTHS II
The moment the shots rang out, lightning tore across the dark sky and thunder exploded overhead. Rain dripped. One. Two. Three. Then it began pouring fervently. The bullets must have passed through to the other side of his skull, because blood sprayed out on both sides. He could have avoided the bullets, blocked them, or even caught them if he wanted, but he was frozen stiff in disbelief. Blood streamed own his forehead; over his eyes, and the rain drenched both of them just like the night he had saved her. This time, he was staring down the barrel of a gun. Remi gritted her teeth in frustration, then yelled “You! You bloody murderer!” She shot multiple times again. One bullet tore through his shoulder. Another struck the other arm. Then three more ripped into his chest. Adam coughed out blood and gasped for breadth as a bullet punched his heart. He dropped to his knees, blood pouring from his entire chest. Fear filled him as he raised his gaze and met Remi’s crying ey
CHAPTER ELEVEN (11): - TRUTHS I
THE NEXT DAY Remi stood in front of her dressing mirror and exhaled loudly, letting go of some steam. Her cheeks were red just from imagination. A kind of giddiness swept through her body. She exhaled again, gaining a bit of composure. “Putting everything aside” she thought to herself “all the mystery surrounding dad’s death and everyone suddenly forgetting Adam, I haven’t felt this way in a long time” She flashed back on the night when Adam had saved her from the two calvaries. “Seeing Adam again after such a long time, especially after everyone’s forgotten him; I can’t help but feel hot inside me. Sure, we were close before his death, but we were too busy with all this calvary wahala to tell each other our feelings. We couldn’t get lost in emotion” She picked up a comb and ran it through her hair once “But, when he died, I realized I had lost a part of myself that I neglected. It’s a miracle that he’s back, but we’ve lost so much in this period” She dropped the comb “His
CHAPTER TEN (10) PART TWO (2): - THE CLOSE
Adam stared at Banks as the heat wave gutted at his clothes and burnt the concrete and steel around. His gaze was calm and unwavering, to kill such a man; Big D’s words echoed in his mind again “If you ever take a life, remember it weighs heavily on your shoulders” “Every man lives once Adam!” Banks roared, his voice like a raging volcano “you and I, and all the calvaries, are just living on borrowed time. True freedom for me now, is going back to where I came from”. Adam sighed, he knew what Banks meant. He closed his eyes as he drew in a long breadth, then exhaled, letting himself feel the heat. Then, he flung them open, and they were no longer ordinary. Both eyes were glistening with crackling blue electricity. He pinned his gaze on Banks and raised his right hand towards him, stretching out his palm wide. Electricity clapped brilliantly around him, crackling violently and coming in front of outstretched palm to form a small sphere. The sphere of electricity compressed h
Chapter Ten (10) part one (1) :- Freedom
Something amazing happened. Fire seemed to crackle briefly in reality itself and Banks vanished instantly. Less than a second later, he appeared before Adam, attacking with his palm straight for his opponent’s chest. In front of the palm, there was a brilliantly bright spinning ball of fire. It was transcending flame, becoming something like almost bright yellow light. Adam’s eyes widened in terror ‘how did he get here without me seeing him? He’s almost lightning fast’ Banks roared out the name of his final technique before he struck “Stellar!” The ball of flaming light struck Adam with rocket force, but just before it hit him, he crossed his daggers in an X in front of him, trying to form a shield. The ball of light exploded in a powerful beam the moment it struck him and blasted him straight through the entire lobby and straight through all the rooms to the very wall of the building. The entire first floor lit up in a brilliant yellow light like a solar flare a
Chapter Nine (9): - “What do you fight for?”
Banks stood glaring at the black bodies of the three men, he had burnt them to black crisp, if that was even a thing. “I knew that last guy was a barrier calvary” he said to himself “always the most annoying guys”. The lights flicked and the glass bulbs exploded to shards, shutting off the lights in the lobby. He turned around and saw three silhouettes take form in the darkness. He was still in his black suit and tie, complete with cover shoes to match. “You still have a thing for making entrances, don’t you, glassman”. The backup lights came on; solar powered LED lamps that had a soft glow. Glassman stood there with Adam and Jerry by his side. “Banks” he said calmly, then his gaze moved to the three dead calvaries, their bodies were vaporizing. “Did my ice calvary not even put up a fight?” he kissed his teeth “I knew I should have come with Scatter instead. But he’s no good when it comes to stealth” “Neither was this one” Banks interrupted “He glared at me. You know h
