Chapter 1
The sound of Ronan’s ribs breaking was louder than the thunder in the torn sky.Crack. Snap. The sickening noise echoed in his own ears, followed instantly by a wave of pain so intense it made his vision flash pure white. He flew through the air, thrown like a broken ragdoll, and crashed hard into the cold, wet mud.He tried to gasp for air, but his lungs refused to work. Instead of oxygen, a thick, warm liquid bubbled up his throat. He coughed, and dark red blood sprayed across his pale lips and down his chin. He was choking on his own blood.Above him, the sky was wrong. It was not the familiar dark blue of a midnight sky. It was a chaotic, bleeding purple. Great tears in the clouds swirled like bruised wounds, flashing with unnatural red lightning. The world had ended not long ago, and this sky was the proof. The Veil that protected their world had shattered, letting the nightmares in.The ground shook.Boom. Boom. Boom.Heavy, massive footsteps stepped closer. Ronan forced his hea
Chapter 2
A Scavenger jumped from a broken statue, landing heavily on Olivia’s back. Its sharp claws dug deep into her shoulder. Olivia screamed in pain. She dropped to one knee but managed to reach back, grabbing the small demon by the hair and slamming it onto the ground in front of her. She drove her sword through its head. But the moment she did, the Abyssal Troll moved. The giant monster stepped forward, raising its heavy stone club high into the air. Olivia looked up, her green eyes wide. She crossed her arms, holding her sword up to block, but it was useless. The club crashed down. The impact did not hit her directly, but it struck the ground right next to her. The sheer force of the blow shattered the stone floor. A shockwave of broken rocks and heavy dirt blasted into Olivia, throwing her violently across the courtyard. She hit a marble pillar with a sickening thud and fell to the ground, entirely still. Her sword slid out of her hand, the last spark of her magical fire dying out compl
Chapter 3
A shape began to form in the red light. It was the silhouette of a woman made of pure fire, floating in front of him. She reached out a burning hand and gently touched his cheek."My domain is born from intimacy. It is born from the bed. It is born from the deep, raw connection of flesh and soul. To use my power, you must find vessels. Women of magic, women of latent bloodlines. You must bind them to you. The deeper your physical and emotional connection with them, the more invincible you will become. They will be your chalices. Without them, my power will burn you alive from the inside out."Ronan’s mind spun. This was madness. He was dying in the mud, a giant troll about to smash his head, and this ancient entity was talking about passion and intimacy as the source of god-like power."It is a heavy crown," the voice whispered, noticing his hesitation. "Your enemies will hunt you. Other mortals have found different Seeds. Seeds of death, of war, of shadows. They are building kingdoms
Chapter 4
The Abyssal Troll did not care that Ronan was glowing. It did not care that the broken human had just crushed its foot. The monster only knew anger, pain, and a wild desire to turn this glowing man into a red stain on the mud.The ground shook as the Troll planted its good foot and lunged forward. It threw its entire massive body weight into a single, devastating punch. Its fist was the size of a large boulder, covered in thick, grey skin and sharp, bony spikes. The punch moved through the air with a loud whoosh, aimed directly at the center of Ronan’s chest.A normal man would have been torn to shreds. A normal man would not have even seen the fist coming. But Ronan was no longer just a man.He stood his ground. He did not dodge. He did not step back. His eyes, burning with a blinding golden fire, tracked the giant fist as if it were moving in slow motion. With an unnatural, terrifying grace, Ronan raised his left hand.BANG!The sound of the impact was like a cannon firing. A shockw
Chapter 5
Ronan carefully slid his glowing arms under Olivia’s body. He lifted her. She felt impossibly light, like a feather. Even though his body was breaking apart, his physical strength was still god-like.He held her tight against his chest and ran.He darted around the broken statues and leaped over deep holes in the floor. The Troll swung its giant club at him, but Ronan was already gone, leaving only a trail of golden sparks in the air. The club smashed into the ground where Ronan had been standing a second ago.Ronan reached the back of the sanctuary. The heavy iron doors to the crypt were half-open, leading down into total darkness. He rushed inside, carrying Olivia down a long, circular flight of stone stairs. The air down here was cold and smelled of damp earth and old dust. It was completely silent, a sharp contrast to the screaming monsters above. When they reached the bottom of the stairs, they entered a large, circular room made of solid black stone. Old stone tombs lined the wa
Chapter 6
Ronan looked into her green eyes. He felt a deep sense of guilt, but also a desperate, undeniable need. "I need a Chalice. An anchor. A woman with magic in her blood.” The Voice said. “The condition of the power is absolute. My power awakens through intimacy. It is born from... from the bed. From a deep, physical, and emotional bond."Olivia stopped breathing for a second. The crypt grew very quiet, except for the loud, violent banging on the door above."You mean..." she started, her voice dropping to a whisper."I have to bind my soul to yours," Ronan said honestly, not looking away. "Flesh, blood, and soul. An ancient rite. If we share a deep, intimate connection, the golden fire will flow from me into you. It will reignite your dead magic. It will heal your wounds. And it will stabilize my body, letting me use the god-like strength without burning up."Olivia stared at him. She looked at his glowing chest, his beautiful, pained face. Then she looked toward the heavy iron doors.CR
Chapter 7
Ronan moved his hands down her arms, his glowing skin sliding against hers. Every place he touched, her bruises faded. Her cuts knit themselves back together without leaving a scar. He pressed his body heavily against hers, feeling the rapid beating of her heart matching the rhythm of his own.Olivia arched her back, letting out a soft moan that was swallowed by the loud banging from above. She felt her clothes burning away, turning into soft white ash as the heat between them grew. She pulled at Ronan’s torn shirt, throwing it aside. She wanted nothing between them. She needed to feel the absolute truth of this magic.Their bodies moved together in the dark, guided by a primal instinct older than the world itself. It was a desperate, urgent rhythm. Every breath they shared, every touch, every kiss forced the bond deeper into their souls."Yes," the ancient Voice whispered in Ronan’s mind, sounding deeply satisfied. "Yes. Claim your Chalice. Let the fire of your desire forge the chain
Chapter 8
Thwack. The sound was wet and sharp. Before the thick grey dust in the crypt could even settle, a terrifying thing happened. The Scavenger demon at the front of the pack had opened its mouth to hiss. It never got the chance.A severed head, with its ugly mouth still wide open and its sharp teeth dripping with slime, flew across the dark room. It spun through the air like a thrown rock, trailing a perfect circle of black blood.Smack.The demon’s head hit the solid stone wall of the crypt and bounced off. A second later, the monster's headless body finally realized it was dead. It collapsed to the cold floor with a heavy, wet thud. The rest of the demons froze. The small Scavengers stopped clicking their teeth. Even the giant Abyssal Troll stopped moving. They all stared at the headless body, and then they slowly turned their red eyes to the man standing in the center of the room.Ronan stood there, his arm still stretched out from the strike. He had moved so fast that the human eye co
Chapter 9
Before they could get up, Olivia leaped into the air. She threw a ball of pure, compressed fire from her left hand. It hit the ground between the two fallen monsters and exploded like a bomb, blowing them into tiny, burning pieces. The crypt was completely painted in demon blood and ash.Suddenly, a heavy, deafening roar shook the entire room. The Abyssal Troll had finally had enough. The giant monster pushed through the smoke. It was furious. It could not understand how two tiny humans were destroying its pack so easily. The Troll raised its giant stone club, holding it with both hands, and brought it down toward Olivia with all its massive strength.'Ronan!' Olivia’s mind screamed.Ronan was already moving. He leaped across the room, leaving a trail of abyssal fire behind him. He threw himself right between Olivia and the falling stone club.He did not try to catch it this time. Instead, he pulled his right arm back. His fist began to glow so brightly it looked like a miniature sun.
Chapter 10
Olivia reached up and cupped his face with both hands. Her thumbs wiped away a smear of black ash from his cheek."Ronan," she said firmly. "Look around us. The world is full of real monsters. They destroyed our homes. They killed our families. They were going to eat us alive. You are not a monster. You are the only reason I am breathing right now."She leaned in and kissed him softly on the lips. It was not the desperate, violent kiss of survival they had shared earlier. It was slow, tender, and deeply emotional. The moment their lips touched, the crypt lit up with a soft, pulsing golden glow. The connection between their souls sang with joy. The power was intoxicating. It made them feel invincible, like two gods sitting in the ruins of a broken world.Ronan pulled back slightly, resting his forehead against hers. "I promise you, Olivia. I will protect you. I will use this power to tear apart any nightmare that tries to hurt you.""I know you will," Olivia smiled, feeling completely
