PROLOGUE: Red Dream
The ominous glow from the blood red moon bathed the land in crimson. Hundreds of bodies, all broken and shriveled up, having been robbed of all life and essence. *Huff* *Huff* *Huff* A young boy breathed raggedly as he fell to his knees, among the sea of shriveled bodies. He clutched his chest with his left hand as he took in the sight of the corpses that seemed familiar and yet unfamiliar. As he took in the sight of the carnage, something grabbed his ankle from behind. It was a cold touch that sent a dreadful chill sweeping down his spine. His head snapped around in an instant only to see that he was being touched by one of the corpses. The corpse's hold on his ankle tightened as it struggled to pull itself out from the pile of bodies it was buried under. The boy felt a sharp sting in his chest as he saw the face of the corpse, although her eyes were sunken and her skin shriveled up, it seemed like he actually knew her but at the same time did not, just like it was with the othe
Chapter One: Awakening Ceremony
The hall was filled by the time Oberon and Sam arrived, the students chattered endlessly amongst themselves and the instructors settled their Stern gazes upon them from the stage. Oberon felt a gaze burn into the back of his neck as he and Sam made their way to the section where their classmates were seated. “You see. I told this was going to happen.” Sam said as he stole a glance at instructor Randal whose gaze was fixated upon the duo. “You should have left me, then you wouldn't have gotten into trouble.” “Left you and let you miss the ceremony? Never!” Sam retorted as they both sat down side by side. “Oberon don't you get it? This is the biggest day of our lives, the day we get to awaken our pathways and step into the path of greatness. It would be a sin to miss it.” Sam sighed and began fiddling with his fingers while Oberon observed the hall and the students that filled it. He could see a few unfamiliar faces who had come to observe and perhaps a few that were rumored
Chapter Two: Dream Voyager
“Wish me luck.”Sam said with a strained smile as he stood up from his seat and approached the platform. Hundreds of students had already had their chance at awakening on the stone platform, some succeeded but others…..they were not so lucky. Now it was time for Oberon and his classmates to attempt to awaken on the stone platform. A few of them had attempted to awaken but none had succeeded, the air felt heavy as tension remained at an all time high. “Will I fail to awaken? If I fail to awaken, is it all over?”Oberon muttered to himself as he watched Sam step onto the platform with steady steps. The instructor placed both palms on the surface of the stone platform and as usual, the inscriptions began to glow and white motes of light began to gather from the air before forming a stream that continuously encircled him. Oberon and the rest of his classmates watched in anticipation as the stream of light encircled Sam as if searching for something, eventually the stream flowed into him
Chapter Three: Dream Voyager (2)
Oberon walked back to class absent minded, all around him the cheers of students who were excited that they had successfully awakened was deafening. It was almost like he was allergic to it, their excitement at having gotten good pathways and branches. One could only become a great person with a strong pathway, branch, connections and wealth. Sam alongside the other legacies had the connections, the wealth and the right pathway and branches to lay the right foundation. Even Jane the school beauty had all these. They would no doubt steal the spotlight in all the upcoming events and opportunities, their names would be known for life but Oberon….he had none of these things, he was an orphan with no wealth to his name and no connections.“I'll just be another ordinary person. If only I had awakened the right pathway.”He muttered as he turned around a corner.“Hey isn't that the guy that awakened a really rare pathway?”Someone whispered as Oberon walked, however he didn't lift his he
Chapter Four: Absurd Skills
“This can't be real, a skill of the initiate rank can't just grant me access to a realm all of a sudden.”Oberon said in confusion, and his confusion was not unfounded.“A realm is supposed to be an independent plane of existence governed by its own laws, essence and inhabitants. This shouldn't be possible.”He thought as he calmed himself down by taking deep breaths. He set the description for his first skill aside for a while and instead focused on his second skill so he could take his mind off the questions that now bugged him. “The ability to bring things back from the dream realm and into reality.”Just thinking about it made Oberon gulp instinctively. It was too good to be true and yet, there it was on the record. Realms were places laden with opportunities and also dangers, there were a lot of things to be found and discovered within realms that perhaps nobody really knew anything about.“If I could make a stable line of selling scavenged items from this realm then wouldn'
Chapter Five: First Voyage Into The Dream Realm
Oberon opened his eyes lazily, yawned and stretched a little before finally sighing. His sleep had been rather short and he didn't have any disturbing dreams like the ones that had haunted him on the day of awakening. Although he still didn't know the causes of those dreams and their underlying meaning, he didn't want to delve into it at the moment. All he wanted to do for now was to grow stronger, survive the perils of the void, earth and the mysterious dream realm alongside to pass the qualification assessments organized by the school.Just then Oberon noticed something strange about his room, the first thing he noticed was the smell, it was the smell of dust and old furniture. He immediately paid attention to his surroundings after noticing this.“Huh? Where am I? What is this place?”Oberon asked himself as he jumped out of bed in a state of panic. He was no longer in his small apartment that he had grown used to over the years, he was not surrounded by his old working table,
Chapter Six: The UBM
Oberon's eyes fluttered open calmly as the rays of the morning sun filtered into his room through the window. For a moment he could do nothing but lay still in bed, his mind wondering on and on about the events that had occured in the dream realm. He sighed, and got out of bed expecting to be exhausted however he seemed fine and relaxed, like he had gotten a good amount of sleep, however he knew he had gone through quite the stress searching through the village for clues. “Even my clothes aren't dirty.”He thought as he looked at himself in the mirror hung on the wall. Then he sighed once again and thought about what had occured after he discovered he had been in the dream realm. After he discovered he had been in the mysterious dream realm all along, Oberon had brought himself to accept it and had calmed his nerves. He had searched beneath the beds in the other houses and had found more dream Stone bringing his total to sixty.“I have no idea if it has any value but for now, I
Chapter Seven: The UBM(2)
“I guess I'll check my basic attributes later then.”Oberon thought as he and Sam opened the doors of the car and made their way out. Oberon felt awe at the sight of the building but also understandable, after all he was a walking abnormality. He felt just like a notorious serial killer walking into police department.“Thanks Watson. Don't forget to come pick us up at the agreed time.”Sam said to his driver through the partly opened window.“Worry not master Sam, I'll be here.”“Just Sam is fine, save the title of maser for official family meetings or official gatherings.”He said with a smile as he slipped his phone into his pocket, he the turned to look at the massive glass dome that served as the UBM department within the city.“Impressive right?”He asked. “And massive.”Oberon replied, his gaze still fixated on the building.“Shall we?”Sam asked gesturing towards the entrance that had people walking in and out in droves, mostly middle aged men and women and occasionally teen
Chapter Eight: Rejected
CHAPTER EIGHT“Wow.”Oberon said under his breath as he looked around him, he could see all sorts of people going about their daily activities, from people in armour and all sorts of gear to people buying groceries selling goods in established stalls.“I heard there were shelters set up in the void for mystics to stay in during expeditions but I never expected the shelters to be this big.”Sam said looking ahead at the gargantuan white walls that surrounded the city, protecting it from stray beasts. If one looked closely, they could even see the tiny figures that manned the walls, puppets.“Alright, enough sightseeing. I'll go gather our new party members, it's best we begin as soon as possible and saturate our cores.”Sam said as he clapped his hands and turned to Oberon who nodded and replied.“While you do that, I'll look around, there are a few things I want to get for myself.”With that the two friends parted ways. Oberon walked through the crowd of people and he
Chapter Nine: Death's Retribution
After following Bruce's lead through the shelter for quite some time, Oberon finally got to see a branch of the renowned War god guild, second only to the Golden Cyclops guild. The branch building was quite large, and there were a lot of people walking in and out. On the building's roof, there was a statue of a spartan warrior wielding a bloody sword in his left hand, and a spear in his right. The Spartan had his sword raised in the air and his spear piercing the back of a panther-like beast that seemed to be terrified. “That's quite realistic….and majestic.” Oberon commented as they both walked in. Bruce was still earning looks from a lot of people and Oberon could only think of two reasons why that was the case. The first reason was because Bruce was a legacy, he was Bruce Bellingham. The second reason was because he was shirtless, charming and looked dependable. ‘Legacies sure do have it easy.’ Oberon couldn't help but think. The duo both walked into the guild without was
