“I guess I'll check my basic attributes later then.”

Oberon thought as he and Sam opened the doors of the car and made their way out. Oberon felt awe at the sight of the building but also understandable, after all he was a walking abnormality. He felt just like a notorious serial killer walking into police department.

“Thanks Watson. Don't forget to come pick us up at the agreed time.”

Sam said to his driver through the partly opened window.

“Worry not master Sam, I'll be here.”

“Just Sam is fine, save the title of maser for official family meetings or official gatherings.”

He said with a smile as he slipped his phone into his pocket, he the turned to look at the massive glass dome that served as the UBM department within the city.

“Impressive right?”

He asked.

“And massive.”

Oberon replied, his gaze still fixated on the building.

“Shall we?”

Sam asked gesturing towards the entrance that had people walking in and out in droves, mostly middle aged men and women and occasionally teenagers of the same age as Oberon and Sam or perhaps even older, most of them clad in all sorts of gear and holding safely secured weapons.

“We shall.”

Both of them made their way into the building through the revolving doors only to feel more impressed by the sight that greeted them.

The building's interior was even more impressive than its exterior, its size boasting that of two massive stadiums merged together. Its walls were made of a pitch black material with a glossy surface, however Oberon didn't doubt its durability, it was after all made out of a renowned material known to be much harder than any form of metal but lighter too.

As they walked in they were directed towards one of the receptions that filled the entire building. The entire place was occupied with receptions and personnels that managed these receptions. However Sam and Oberon didn't seem curious about why there was a lack of other visible facilities asides the receptions and strange large transparent tubes, this was because it was common knowledge that the true infrastructures and wonders of ever UBM department existed underground.

“Hello there young men, what may I do for you today?”

A short chubby male receptionist asked with a professional smile plastered on his face, a smile that said approach my station I know exactly what I am doing and how to help you.

“Hello sir, we are newly awakened students, and we would like to register as mystics alongside gain access to the void gate.”

Sam said cutting straight to the chase. The receptionist didn't seem fazed by the fact that they were newly awakened and were going into the void so early, instead he calmly pulled out two little compact devices and placed it before the duo, his smile ever present.

“Kindly place a finger on this device and a bit of your essence into it.”

He instructed. Oberon and Sam followed his instructions and did as asked without delay, immediately that's was done, a melodious and mechanical chime was heard from the computer before the receptionist and he calmly retrieved the devices before proceeding.

“Alright then, you have been successfully registered within the bureau's database. As registered mystics you now have responsibilities that you cannot neglect and are responsible for. Firstly, you must venture into void at least four times a month and assist in culling the numbers of beasts and hostile monsters around the shelters.

Secondly, once called upon by the bureau for specialized assignments or questioning, you must always be present and must not attempt acts of evasion. Thirdly you are tasked with protecting humanity with your awakened abilities. If there is a realm collapse occuring around you, you are mandated to help.

Fourthly, you are mandated to report strange findings to the bureau like the discovery of new realms or forbidden items, skills or methods.”

Oberon's heartbeat slightly increased at the mention of new realms, he gulped instinctively and cold sweat broke out on his forehead.

“This is definitely not pleasant.”

He thought but calmed himawkd so as not to look strange or particularly suspicious.

“As registered mystics, you are now entitled to receiving a monthly reward as long as you follow the already established rules and fulfill your duties and responsibilities. As initiates, you are entitled to a monthly reward of 30,000 Credits and 10 merit points. As your rank increases, so will your rewards.”

*Aissshhh!*

Oberon sucked in a sharp breath at the mention of the monthly rewards. To grow stronger in this world of mysteries and mysticism, one needed an awful lot of resources, rich in quantity and quality. To get these resources, one needed money.

After the emergence of the void and other realms, humanity united beneath one banner and shared one form of currency, credits. Credit was the new dollar, credit was the new penny, it was the new nickels, it was the new naira and many more. With credits, humanity became united when it came to finance. Merits were also a form of credits, they were however only obtainable by doing meritorious service that benefited the growth and safety of humanity.

For example, killing beasts in the void or building shelters and managing them. As long as a deed is considered meritorious, one can earn merits for it. Merits could be used to obtainable various items and whatnot unobtainable with credits. As long as one accumulates enough merits, they are even rewarded by the bureau.

“Here are your passage tokens to the void. I wish you a safe trip.”

The receptionist said with a pleasant smile as he gave both Sam and Oberon a black card with the bureau's logo printed in extravagant golden colours. They both took their respective cards and walked towards one of the large strange tubes that populated the building, with Sam leading the way.

In front of all the tubes were guards dressed in dark suits, matching shades and shoes, they blocked the way to the tubes with hands folded before them and legs slightly apart no doubt looking very professional and mysterious.

“Just by looking at them, I can feel the energy radiating off them, they're strong and dangerous. Whoever decides to cause trouble within the bureau is nothing but a fool with a tendency for suicide.”

Oberon thought. One of the gurads looked down at them for a few minutes, perhaps expecting something. Sam immediately presented the card given to him and the reception and the guard nodded slightly in approval before letting him pass. Oberon also presented his card and was approved.

They both steeped into the tube that opened up for them and closed when they were within it. After a few seconds of waiting, the tube began to descend, revealing itself to be an elevator that brought them both down.

The wait within the elevator didn't take more than five minutes, once it stopped and opened up, Sam and Oberon walked out of it and into another massive room, also the size of two stadiums merged together.

Unlike the main floor, there were no receptions populating the place, instead what took up the most space were to absolutely massive stone pillars, tall enough that they barely reached the roof. Between these pillars, one could see an equally massive distortion of space. A glowing crimson portal.

“A void gate.”

Oberon said under his breath as he and Sam walked towards it without breaking stride.

There were only a few void gates around the whole world, and around each of them, the bureau had built their departments and headquarters.

The duo showed the guards before the gate their black cards and they were allowed entry without problems.

As they stepped through the portal, Oberon felt the space warp around him. He felt as though he was suddenly surrounded by the cold dark ocean only he felt a slight pressure and quantitative mass around him. A wave of dizziness struck him for a few seconds before he was finally freed and able to completely walk through the portal.

Upon opening his eyes, Oberon was once more captivated for they were now in a bustling city.

He also paid attention to his surroundings, watching out for any signs of danger. “I'll steer clear of the tower for now, I have a nagging feeling I'm not nearly strong enough to go exploring.”Snap!!Just then the sound of twigs snapping immediately alerted Oberon, his eyes narrowed and his grip on the hilt of his dagger tightened. His heart rate increased considerably as the darkness that had receded when he walked into the forest immediately returned. He stared intently at where the sound had come from but he couldn't see through the darkness, nor could he sense anything hidden with the oppressive darkness. Oliver, a short dark haired boy with an average look, was of the Pathway Of Puppets, and his branch was puppet master, allowing him to create puppets and control them. Would you like to learn the intermediate mastery dagger arts manual? Y/N ‘Yes.’ Oberon thought without delay. Just then the book seemed to glow with a slightly intense purple light before fading away and forming a purple orb of light the size of a pinky finger. • Chapter Nine: Death's Retribution

After following Bruce's lead through the shelter for quite some time, Oberon finally got to see a branch of the renowned War god guild, second only to the Golden Cyclops guild. The branch building was quite large, and there were a lot of people walking in and out. On the building's roof, there was a statue of a spartan warrior wielding a bloody sword in his left hand, and a spear in his right. The Spartan had his sword raised in the air and his spear piercing the back of a panther-like beast that seemed to be terrified. “That's quite realistic….and majestic.” Oberon commented as they both walked in. Bruce was still earning looks from a lot of people and Oberon could only think of two reasons why that was the case. The first reason was because Bruce was a legacy, he was Bruce Bellingham. The second reason was because he was shirtless, charming and looked dependable. ‘Legacies sure do have it easy.’ Oberon couldn't help but think. The duo both walked into the guild without was

If one looked closely, they could even see the tiny figures that manned the walls, puppets.“Alright, enough sightseeing. I'll go gather our new party members, it's best we begin as soon as possible and saturate our cores.”Sam said as he clapped his hands and turned to Oberon who nodded and replied.“While you do that, I'll look around, there are a few things I want to get for myself.”With that the two friends parted ways.
