The ominous glow from the blood red moon bathed the land in crimson. Hundreds of bodies, all broken and shriveled up, having been robbed of all life and essence.
*Huff* *Huff* *Huff* A young boy breathed raggedly as he fell to his knees, among the sea of shriveled bodies. He clutched his chest with his left hand as he took in the sight of the corpses that seemed familiar and yet unfamiliar. As he took in the sight of the carnage, something grabbed his ankle from behind. It was a cold touch that sent a dreadful chill sweeping down his spine. His head snapped around in an instant only to see that he was being touched by one of the corpses. The corpse's hold on his ankle tightened as it struggled to pull itself out from the pile of bodies it was buried under. The boy felt a sharp sting in his chest as he saw the face of the corpse, although her eyes were sunken and her skin shriveled up, it seemed like he actually knew her but at the same time did not, just like it was with the other bodies. “You. It's y..your fault. You are at fault.” Her voice was raspy and her speech strained but just hearing himself being accused, the boy felt tears well up in his eyes. His chest tightened, and his heart ached. An unbearable certainty settled over him. Somehow….someway……He knew he had caused this. *Thump* *Thump* *Thump* *Thump* However, just as it seemed like he would give in to the feeling of guilt that seemed to overwhelm him, he heard footsteps coming from behind. Turning his head slowly, he saw a figure clothed in a red cloak, their face hidden behind a hood and their features obscured. The figure reached out to him with slender but pale hands, as if to help him up and lift him from his knees. He reached out as well, as if to grab the figures hands, however…… “Ughk!!” The figure wrapped their slender and deadly pale fingers around his throat whilst lifting him up and choking him in the process. He tried to fight back, his hands straining to free his throat from the increasing pressure that threatened to crush it. As he scrambled to breathe, his hands pushed against the figure's hood, only to reveal an unnerving smile that covered him in cold sweat. A feeling of dread and fear washed over him, embracing him from all sides. “He shall rise again, and his name shall be known across all realms and races. “Among mortals he shall be known. Among Mystics he shall be known. Among pseudo-gods his name shall be a bane and among true gods he shall be He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named.” **************** "Oi Oberon wake up. Seriously? Are you really sleeping today? Of all possible days?.” "If Randal catches us, I'm blaming you.” Oberon woke up to the sound of a familiar voice nagging repeatedly about something he couldn't fully understand. He felt fuzzy and slightly dizzy and to top it off his vision was blurry. “Where am I? I can't see, I can't see anything.” Oberon said almost in a state of alarm as he looked around, confused and ignorant of his current situation. However the owner of the voice didn't seem to be having any if it. *Thwack* “Snap out of it!” Oberon's head jerked slightly to the side and he was left in a daze for a few seconds, however the sharp stinging pain from being hit brought him back to reality. Looking around, the first thing he saw was the face of a boy he knew all too well. Sam. “Come on, we need to go now. Everyone has left already, at this point we'll be the last to get there and we'll be scolded by the instructor. I don't want to make a fool of myself on a day like this and you shouldn't either.” Sam urged before taking hurried steps towards the door. Oberon stood up right after and followed behind him while simultaneously rubbing his cheek that was now slightly red. “The awakening ceremony huh? It's finally starting.”Latest Chapter
Chapter Thirteen: The Nightmare
It was cold, strangely silent and eerie. As he moved through the forest, Oberon kept on marking the trees, making sure he knew where he had come from and the way back to the village. He also paid attention to his surroundings, watching out for any signs of danger. “I'll steer clear of the tower for now, I have a nagging feeling I'm not nearly strong enough to go exploring.”Snap!!Just then the sound of twigs snapping immediately alerted Oberon, his eyes narrowed and his grip on the hilt of his dagger tightened. His heart rate increased considerably as the darkness that had receded when he walked into the forest immediately returned. He stared intently at where the sound had come from but he couldn't see through the darkness, nor could he sense anything hidden with the oppressive darkness. Oberon instantly became anxious, he felt slightly agitated and fear gradually settled in.Snap!!Just then, when it seemed like he had been fussing over nothing, another audible sound of snapp
Chapter Twelve: Pale Gardens
Oberon opened his eyes to a very familiar pink sky and white sun, he felt the wind ruffle his air slightly and upon inhaling he felt an abundant amount of rich essence fill him, revitalizing his very being only to be let out when he exhaled."I guess I'm back in the dream realm."After the first wave back at the training room in the war god guild branch within the shelter, Oberon had successfully managed to get new members, making the previous team of two a team of five. The new members were rather good at what they did, and seemed to have decent experience when it came to combat or support. Oliver, a short dark haired boy with an average look, was of the Pathway Of Puppets, and his branch was puppet master, allowing him to create puppets and control them. Their strength was tied to his and so was the number of puppets he could control all at once. Even the quality of the puppets created were tied to his rank. Cynthia, a petite brunette with average height and a slim but petite lo
Chapter Eleven: New Members And The Second Wave
Surrounded by two undead wolves and one spearman, the temporary team of three held on with the best of their abilities, standing at the back of the team were the two boys, Oliver and Peter.Oliver controlled the puppets which were humanoid constructions made out of patched up pieces of black worn out leather. There were two of puppets, one held onto an iron shield, acting as the tank and the other wielded a broadsword acting as the front liner. They both had little glowing blue crystal shards embedded in their chests that pulsed periodically. Both puppets stood in front of the group, the frost weave, Cynthia stood behind the puppets and Oliver alongside Peter stood behind her. This was their formation.“Puppet 2, block the undead wolves attacks, puppet 1, disarm the spearman and cleave it in two.Cynthy, kindly slow down their movements and Peter buff her up. With these, they should go down easily.”Oliver said as he directed his puppets and teammates. The puppet wielding the iron
Chapter Ten: First Wave
Oberon immediately manifested his dagger and the manual he had purchased earlier. ‘I should have learned this earlier.’ “Bruce, cover me for a while.” Oberon said as he hastily focused his will on the black bounded manual, as he did so a familiar purple construct appeared in the air before him. Would you like to learn the intermediate mastery dagger arts manual? Y/N ‘Yes.’ Oberon thought without delay. Just then the book seemed to glow with a slightly intense purple light before fading away and forming a purple orb of light the size of a pinky finger. The purple orb floated in the air for a bit before finally piercing through his head without causing any injury. Upon absorbing the orb, information instantly flooded Oberon's mind, stances, grip, attack patterns, defense patterns, evasion patterns. Almost everything he needed to know about wielding a dagger. The dagger suddenly settled in his grip like he had been using the dagger for years and had learned almost all there
Chapter Nine: Death's Retribution
After following Bruce's lead through the shelter for quite some time, Oberon finally got to see a branch of the renowned War god guild, second only to the Golden Cyclops guild. The branch building was quite large, and there were a lot of people walking in and out. On the building's roof, there was a statue of a spartan warrior wielding a bloody sword in his left hand, and a spear in his right. The Spartan had his sword raised in the air and his spear piercing the back of a panther-like beast that seemed to be terrified. “That's quite realistic….and majestic.” Oberon commented as they both walked in. Bruce was still earning looks from a lot of people and Oberon could only think of two reasons why that was the case. The first reason was because Bruce was a legacy, he was Bruce Bellingham. The second reason was because he was shirtless, charming and looked dependable. ‘Legacies sure do have it easy.’ Oberon couldn't help but think. The duo both walked into the guild without was
Chapter Eight: Rejected
CHAPTER EIGHT“Wow.”Oberon said under his breath as he looked around him, he could see all sorts of people going about their daily activities, from people in armour and all sorts of gear to people buying groceries selling goods in established stalls.“I heard there were shelters set up in the void for mystics to stay in during expeditions but I never expected the shelters to be this big.”Sam said looking ahead at the gargantuan white walls that surrounded the city, protecting it from stray beasts. If one looked closely, they could even see the tiny figures that manned the walls, puppets.“Alright, enough sightseeing. I'll go gather our new party members, it's best we begin as soon as possible and saturate our cores.”Sam said as he clapped his hands and turned to Oberon who nodded and replied.“While you do that, I'll look around, there are a few things I want to get for myself.”With that the two friends parted ways. Oberon walked through the crowd of people and he
