Chapter 1 - General's return
Four hundred guests sat in silence under the crystal chandelier; this was a wedding of the heir of the Blackwell family. At the altar stood Sean Blackwell with a relaxed smile, while Doris Brennan stood beside him, trembling in a gown worth millions. But it couldn't hide the fresh bruises on her cheeks. Her teary eyes fixed on her son, a terrified seven-year-old boy, Liam, who was held by one of Sean's men.The priest stood firmly as he stammered, knowing what would happen if he didn't go ahead with the wedding."Do you, Doris Brennan, take Sean Blackwell to be your husband, in sickness and health, till death do you part?" Doris's lips parted, but she couldn't utter a word. Tears dropped from her eyes, not of joy but of panic and tension that had engulfed her body. The guests murmured silently, knowing what would happen if their voices were heard. "Mummy, save me." Her son whimpered, his face crimson and his body shaking uncontrollably. The guard's grip was so tight that the boy cou
Chapter 2 - Another Failed Plan
At that moment, about fifteen soldiers stormed in, assault rifles raised, boots hammering the marble in perfect rhythm as they spread out and sealed every exit. Guests screamed and dropped to the floor.Behind the soldiers walked a giant of a man, silver stars gleaming on his shoulders, his presence alone enough to make the soldiers straighten their spines.Admiral Cody!"What a pathetic loser," Sean called out, his confidence surging back the second he saw the uniformed man. "Stealing a phone and thinking he could get away with it.”"He doesn't have any escape route; Admiral Cody is going to make him pay for not only stealing his phone but ruining his friend's wedding."“This man is going down! Admiral Cody doesn't have mercy on anyone.”“He should just give up, get on his knees, and apologise to Sean Blackwell.”The murmurs continued, as everyone couldn't wait to know what would happen and how Dennis would be dealt with.Doris looked down, her face burning in shame and disappointme
Chapter 3 - Restaurant Order
The doors of the restaurant swung open, glass and gold trim gleaming under crystal chandeliers as Dennis walked in holding his son's hand, calm as ever, while Doris trailed a step behind, glancing around at the marble floors and hushed, wealthy chatter. She couldn't stop the thought creeping in. “How is he going to pay for a meal here?”They were seated at a table near the window. A waiter approached, straightened his jacket, and handed them menus with the practised politeness of a man used to serving people who never checked the prices."Order anything you want," Dennis told Liam, sliding the menu toward him.Liam took his time, eyes wide at the pictures of food he'd never tasted, while the waiter stood there, jaw tightening with every passing second. Then the restaurant's manager walked past, a sharp-eyed woman named Amanda, and stopped mid-step when she recognised Doris. Her eyes swept over the two of them, Dennis in ordinary clothes, and Doris, still in the gown from the wedding t
Chapter 4 - Crossed Threshold
The man who stepped out of the lead Rolls-Royce was in his fifties, dressed in a dark tailored suit that fit like armour. He didn't walk into a room. He owned it the moment he crossed the threshold.Hector Beaumont, Billionaire CEO of the Beaumont Group. The man whose signature was on the deed to the very building they stood in.Amanda's spine went rigid. She smoothed down her blouse with shaking hands, heart hammering. Hector never came to this location himself, not once in the three years she'd managed it. He sent his butler to review the books, sent accountants to check the numbers. He never, ever showed up in person. She bowed so low her forehead nearly touched her own knees."Mr. Beaumont," she exhaled. "This is such an honour; I wasn't told you'd be coming. Is something wrong? Everything here is completely under control, I promise you. There's just a man who's refused to leave and caused a bit of a disturbance, nothing I can't manage. We also have Mr. and Mrs. Ashby dining with
Chapter 5 - Faked Explanation
Dennis took a slow breath, and for the first time that night, his voice softened enough for the walls he kept around himself to crack, just slightly."Doris, something happened after everyone thought I died," he began. "I wasn't dead. I had to disappear. I was hurt badly enough that I lost my memory for a while. I didn't want to come back to you and Liam broken, half a man who couldn't even remember his own name. So I stayed away until I could stand on my feet again."Doris's eyes went wide, her lips parting, but no sound came out. Six years of grief, and the reason was this simple, this human."While I was recovering," he continued, "there was a fire at a mall. I saw a little girl in a wheelchair, trapped, no one going near her because the flames were spreading too fast. I got her out." He paused. "Turned out she was Hector Beaumont's daughter."Doris pressed a hand to her mouth, with her eyes still fixed on Dennis."When word reached him, he found me. Insisted I come to his house. T
Chapter 6 - Plot Twist
At the Blackwell family estate, the air itself seemed to hold its breath.Dickson Blackwell's foot slammed against the marble floor, the sound cracking through the room like a gunshot. His jaw clenched in rage, and his fists clenched at his sides."How dare he?" he roared, the words tearing through the room. Every man standing before him flinched, eyes dropping to the floor. No one in that house had seen Dickson Blackwell lose control in over a decade, and now the fear of it filled the room like smoke."Mr. Blackwell." Camila's voice shook as she stepped forward, wringing her hands. "I did everything I could to bring her to you. That man, Dennis, he wouldn't listen to reason. He broke my son's arm right in front of me."Dickson's gaze shifted to Ethan, whose arm hung stiff in a fresh bandage, his face pale from pain and humiliation both."Mr. Blackwell," Victor added quickly, eager to seem useful, "my mother has already disowned Doris. She and her husband have nowhere left to run. I'm
Chapter 7 - Apartment Encounter
Rain lashed the roof of Doris's apartment that morning; a dark stain had spread across the ceiling in the corner of the bedroom, and water dripped steadily into a bucket Doris had placed there earlier.Dennis stood beneath it, watching the water fall, drop by drop, into the bucket already half full."How long has this been happening?" he asked, without turning around.Doris wrapped her arms around herself, standing in the doorway. "A few weeks now, I've called someone to fix it twice. But everytime they said they'd come and never did. I told the landlord myself, more than once. He kept saying he'd send someone, but It just kept getting worse."Dennis pressed two fingers against the swollen patch of ceiling, and watched it sag under the pressure like it might give way completely. His jaw tightened, and he shook his head."You've been living like this with Liam." His voice was filled with irritation "I didn't have a choice, Dennis. I couldn't afford anywhere else, and I couldn't leave
Chapter 8 : Flogged Forty Times
Dennis slapped the man across the face so hard. Chamberlain's scream ripped through the house, the sound a man makes only once in his life and never forgets. Dennis held his gaze steady, watching pain flood the man's eyes without a flicker of mercy in his own. "Please! Please, I'm sorry!" Chamberlain sobbed.Dennis loosened his grip slowly, deliberately, letting the man feel every second of it. "Sorry doesn't pay years of stolen rent, and keeping her apartment this way," he said. "Now you will pay her back. Every single dollar you took from that apartment while she thought you were protecting her interests. Do the maths yourself, or I'll do it for you. And trust me, my number will be higher."Chamberlain's eyes went wide, darting toward the door, but he knew there was no door far enough from Dennis Kensington. He nodded, hands trembling as he pulled out his phone, his good hand fumbling with the screen twice before he managed to open his banking app."The account details," Dennis
Chapter 9 - Zion Hill Estate
"I'm heading out to get some groceries," Dennis told Doris, "Lock the door behind me. Don't open it for anyone, not even if they say they know me.""You're scaring me," she said, trying to force a laugh that didn't quite land."Nothing," he said, holding her face in both hands. "Scared keeps you alive. I'll be back before you know it."She nodded and locked the door the second he stepped into the hallway. Dennis stood there a moment, listening for the click, then let his expression change entirely, the softness dropping away like a mask he'd only worn for her.His phone was already at his ear before he reached the stairs."Peter," he said into the phone. "I need eyes on my family, two men outside the building starting now. Nobody gets near that door, not even a delivery boy, not a neighbor, I mean nobody.”"Already moving," Peter answered. "I'll have men there immediately, they won't blink.""Good." Dennis stepped forward, "One more thing, I need a house agent. Someone who won't was
Chapter 10 - The Villa Inspection
The machine beeped.Elaine's eyes dropped to the small screen, expecting a red flash, expecting the word declined to humiliate Dennis the way she'd already decided to enjoy.Instead, the screen blinked green. Transaction Successful. Her gum stopped moving mid-chew. She stared at the machine like it had betrayed her personally, then looked up at Dennis with an expression caught somewhere between confusion and disbelief.Dennis didn't gloat; he simply reached across the counter and took his card back, sliding it into his jacket pocket with the same calm he'd worn since he walked through the door."Hurry up," he said, already checking his watch. "I have other things to handle today. I didn't come here to watch you chew gum and stare at a receipt."Elaine's composure cracked further. She wasn't ready to believe it, not completely. Plenty of stolen cards floated around this city; plenty of fraudsters had tried their luck at Zion Hill before, and she wasn't about to be the one who let an im
