CHAPTER 30 — THE TRUTH COMES OUT
“You idiot,” Miren said as she gave Adrian a huge knock on his head.Adrian screamed in pain as he turned back to look at Miren, who had an angry expression on her face.“What the fuck was that? Why did you hit me?”“Do you really think you could look me in the eye and lie about how you got these injuries? Of course I know how you got them. You fought in the Underground Arena, right?” Miren said with a nonchalant expression on her face.“How did you know?” Adrian asked with surprise.“Oh, trust me. I may be holed up in my office all day, but information flies into my ears more than most people in this Academy,” Miren said as her summon landed on Adrian’s chest and started healing his injuries.“You must be a spy or something because you surprise me every time,” Adrian said with a smile, lying down shirtless on one of the beds in the infirmary.“Maybe I am a spy, maybe I’m not. Who knows? I just love to always be informed,” she replied.“If you are really as good as you say, what is th
CHAPTER 31 — THE MERIT POINTS
“As we all know, the field trip is about to begin, and there is something important I need to share with you,” Mr. Frank said, grabbing the attention of the entire class.“There’s something you need to understand about this field trip. Every student in this academy is assigned a Merit Point record.”“You earn Merit Points through examinations, tournaments, training exercises, monster hunts, dungeon expeditions, and other academy activities, and those points aren’t meaningless numbers.”The holographic screen behind him changed, displaying the ranking of the previous first-year class.“At the end of your first year, ten students who accumulate enough Merit Points will become eligible to compete for positions within the Student Council.”The classroom immediately became noisy.“The current Student Council consists of second-year students. When they graduate, their positions will become vacant.”Mr. Frank looked across the classroom.“And those positions will be filled by the strongest a
CHAPTER 32 — THE COLOURED DUNGEON
Adrian sat in the third-to-last seat at the back of the school bus, watching through the window as his classmates rolled their luggage and arranged them before entering the bus he was in and the second bus ahead of them.Mr. Frank had told them that they would spend four days on this field trip exercise so they could learn that there are some dungeons that they would spend days inside and would need to sleep there in order to have the energy to go on and clear the dungeon. He saw Lirielle coming from a distance, rolling her travelling bag and with her hair tied back into a ponytail. God, she was beautiful, and she had a cold expression on her face as one of the instructors went to collect her bag from her. She then approached the bus Adrian was on.She walked down to their seat where Adrian was and locked eyes with Adrian and the boy sitting in the second seat beside him. The innocent boy looked between Lirielle and Adrian and back to Lirielle again, and with her cold stare completely
CHAPTER 33 — THE HUNT BEGINS
The two buses finally came to a stop in front of a huge building that looked like a hotel. In front of the building was a bus from another school. Quinn College.Quinn College was a school for the wealthy, as they didn’t accept students whose families weren’t influential and rich. They showed preferential treatment to students who came from homes in higher positions. There were also students from that school in the bus and some outside the bus, but the people that stood out the most were a boy and girl, both of whom sat on top of the bus.“Here come the students from Aegis. Does any one of them fancy your eye?” the girl named Eva asked.“I only have eyes for Lirielle. All the rest are trash that can be easily crushed,” the boy called Kane replied.“I heard she was given the position of Queen, basically meaning she would be the number one and commander of all first years, but she refused. There she is,” Eva replied as they both looked at Lirielle coming down from the bus and looking ar
CHAPTER 34 — ON A SUNNY DAY
Adrian stooped to catch his breath as he wiped the sweat off his face with his handkerchief.“Damn, this place is hot. I would have chosen another location if I knew I would be burning like this,” Adrian complained as he looked around, seeing nothing but sand and mountains of even more sand.“Tank, you've gone through everything, right?” Adrian asked Tank, who was still in his soul space. He had given Tank his phone to memorize all the monsters and their ranks so that Tank would recognize them on sight.“Yes, Your Grace. With our current capabilities, nothing in this area would pose a serious threat to us,” Tank replied.Adrian kept on walking on the sand, taking steps forward as he kept sinking, but he didn't stop.Soon, his senses alerted him, and he saw five Sand Jackals a distance away, growling and slowly coming closer to him.Their skin was red, and they were a little bit bigger than dogs, with sharp teeth and red glowing eyes.“Advance, Your Grace. These animals are nothing bef
CHAPTER 35 — HOLD THE LINE
“These guys just keep coming. What the hell, man?” Adrian shouted as he climbed a pincer that aimed for him and jumped directly onto the Scorpion, stabbing its head and killing it on the spot. His clothes were soaked with these monsters' blood as they had been fighting for a while.“I tried to warn you, Your Grace, but you were quick to jump into battle,” Adrian heard Tank in his head, and he scoffed.“Maybe next time you'll warn me a little faster,” Adrian replied as he was already getting tired. If this battle went on, he would run out of energy, and even his mana wouldn't be able to keep his two Knights running.Overdrive could speed up their battle, but he wasn't sure he had the mana to maintain them while both his Knights were on Overdrive. It was either he activated Overdrive and risked going unconscious in the middle of battle, or he kept fighting with what he had and ran out of energy. The second option was the one he chose.Adrian soon turned to look in a particular direction
CHAPTER 36 — THE ICE PRINCESS
“It’s been a while, Eva,” Damian said as his wings blew dust as he descended and finally landed on the ground.“You’re still as cocky as ever, Damian,” Eva replied as her White Tiger growled at the approaching Damian, but she calmed it down.“What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be stacking up your points?”“I’m doing the same thing you’re doing, but I’m wise enough to send my summon to do the hunting,” Damian said as he approached the edge of the mountain they were standing on, looking down at the battlefield where Adrian and his Knights had killed the Scorpions.“You didn’t even bother to interfere,” Eva said to him.“Oh, I did plan to interfere,” Damian corrected her but was cut short.“You planned to interfere and steal his kill, didn’t you?” Eva finished his sentence.“I was indeed surprised when he awakened his second Summon, and it was a Knight too, but this one was different, so I knew I had to observe him in this tournament and maybe break a few bones to make sure
CHAPTER 37 — THE DAY AFTER
Adrian felt little hands roaming all over his face. Then he felt the little hands poke his cheeks and drag his nose. These little, disturbing actions forced him to open his eyes, only to be greeted with blurry vision.“Papa,” Adrian heard the voice in his ears and knew straight away it was Mina.“Mina,” he called out, his voice cracked from not speaking for a while. His blurry vision saw his little red-haired daughter raise her hand in the air and bring it crashing down on his face, slapping him hard and making his head move sideways. The slap brought Adrian back to life completely, and the blurriness in his eyes was gone.Adrian held his cheek as he looked at Mina, who looked ready to do it again.“Why the hell did you do that?” Adrian asked, frowning, but the little kid just laughed and lay down on his chest, hugging him.“Welcome back to life, Shadow. You had a good sleep?” Miren, who was sitting on
CHAPTER 38 — THE HIDDEN WORLD
Adrian walked down from his room early in the morning with Mina holding his hand.Once he came outside to the camp, he met many of his classmates parading the grounds and doing whatever they wanted.Today was the last day of the field trip, so many of them decided to stay back, rest, and accept whatever points they got because they had tried their best.Mina was curiously looking around as she saw many people moving in different directions. Some were moving with their summons, while others were doing one thing or the other.Another set of his classmates gathered where the ranking meter was, discussing the top five students who were currently leading. He happened to walk by and immediately felt stares so intense that it felt like they were piercing his back.Mina also held his hand tighter as Adrian could feel that she was uncomfortable with the stares.“He was unconscious for two days straight and he's still here. What an unserious guy,” someone said.“Instead of him going out to kill
CHAPTER 39 — THE MIMICRY SPIRIT
Lirielle had just returned to camp after spending the entire time in the field. She was tired and very exhausted and didn't even bother to check the rankings to see who was leading. As she was still approaching, she felt a presence by her side, and she didn't even need to look to know who was there.“Seryu?” she called.“Yes. You sure took your time.” Seryu, Lirielle's personal attendant and one of the close workers of the Seraphine Family, spoke to Lirielle.“You know how I am, Seryu. Don't bite me for it. What of Adrian?” Lirielle asked.“On day one of the field trip, he headed out and faced a group of Sand Scorpions, but unfortunately, he didn't last long as he was brought back unconscious. He stayed unconscious for two days and just today, he was seen heading back out into the field again,” Seryu reported.“Heading back into the field? What for? We just have less than an hour before the whole event is over. Sometimes I can't even guess what that idiot is thinking,” Lirielle said a
