Chapter 1: Dorcas's Birthday
Chapter 1 The extravagant, spacious family home of Wesley Graham was lit with decorations and lights, illuminating the whole room. It was Dorcas Graham's birthday today—the family’s matriarch. She was dressed in her elegant, expensive dress and was looking slightly younger despite her age. “Grandma, over the years, I have observed that you love fancy things, so I decided to get you a designer bag worth over half a million dollars.” Dorcas grinned. Then a young man dressed in a perfect gray suit stepped forward. “Grandma, as your good soon-to-be son-in-law that I have always been,” Mario Caleb started, “I bought this for you." He put the wrapped box down carefully. "It's jewelry worth over two million dollars.” Dorcas's grin grew wider. "Bless you, Mario. You'll truly make a good son-in-law, unlike the piece of trash we already have!" Just then, out of the blue, Henry Daniel, the eldest son-in-law of the family, spoke, "Grandma, could you lend me four hundred
Chapter 2: Henry Becomes Stunned
Chapter 2 Henry turned and was dumbstruck to see the figure standing right there. He was wearing an expensive suit and a Rolex wristwatch. In fact, his appearance alone screamed wealth. He blinked, as if trying to recall where he had seen this face. Because of course, he had! Suddenly…. “You're Steve Housel?" He mumbled, still not completely sure. The man, seeming to be in his late sixties, nodded with a smile. He strode forward and bowed. “You still remember me, young master!" “Of course, I do!" Henry answered. “Aren't you the man who arrived after I helped that ... Mr. Potter Jones that fateful day?" Steve's smile grew wider. “Not just benevolent, but retentive," he remarked, tilting. Subsequently, Steve said, “I am. Late Mr. Potter Jones's subordinate." “Late Mr. Potter Jones?" Henry frowned, confused. Mr. Potter Jones was the old man Henry had met swaying on the street, probably looking drunk. When everyone was avoiding him, Henry quickly helped him, pul
Chapter 3: Project's Termination
Chapter 3 That morning, the next day, Henry finished preparing breakfast for the family as usual, waited for them to finish eating, gathered the dirty dishes, and washed them before sneaking out of the house. He got to the Eminence Group by a cab. After settling the driver, he began to walk toward the building. At that same moment of the day, a plush car drove into the compound and parked. Two figures stepped out of the car. The first was around the age of forty, dressed sharply in his grey suit. The last person was dressed lavishly as if to attract ladies. These people were Mario Caleb alongside his father, Caleb Maxwell. Just as Henry was heading toward the building, Mario caught sight of him and, without thinking, he was totally convinced that it was Henry. In fact, he had become conversant with all of Henry's outfits that he could tell it was him without batting an eye. “That's the piece of trash from Mr. Graham's family," Mario told his father before quickly shouting
Chapter 4: Carlson's Entry
Chapter 4 Henry had barely replied when a voice came from behind. “Look at who will be here, the live-in-son-in-law of Graham's family." Henry turned and frowned immediately. The person was no other than Carlson, Mario's immediate friend. Carlson was from a rich family, but his family's name wasn't popular in the city. However, they lived comfortable lives. Carlson loved spending lavishly, especially on flashy stuff just to drag beautiful ladies' attention. He had been a playboy all from the start. He probably was here to get nice and expensive clothes to look good in. Carlson strode forward. "What have you come here to steal?” He asked. The salesperson narrowed her eyes. At first, when she saw Henry, she knew he wasn't capable of purchasing things here, but out of courtesy's sake, she decided to receive him. But after hearing this now, her previous impression resurfaced. “Sir, do you know him?" She asked. Carlson tilted vehemently. "Of course, I do! He's the live-in
Chapter 5: Carlson Licks Henry's shoes
Chapter 5 “What!" “It came true!" “Unbelievable! "I can't believe that card holds such an amount of money!” Fear instantly gripped some of the onlookers, and they dropped to their knees, fearing that Henry was some kind of hidden heir who could get them severely punished for their actions. "Please, we were wrong to doubt you!” They begged. "Don't harm us, please!” Meanwhile, Carlson was dazed. How was that even possible? Henry was a nobody, and he knew it. Too well. How could he possibly have such an amount of money with him? He narrowed his eyes, staring at Henry in utter disbelief. This can't be the Henry he knew! It must be a different person! “Why are you still standing there? Or have you forgotten our bet all of a sudden?" Henry's voice snapped Carlson out of his thoughts. Jerked back to reality, Carlson shook his head vigorously, doubting what his eyes had just witnessed. "This can't be true! Where did you steal that card from? I know you aren't capable of af
Chapter 6: Bad News
Chapter 6 He had decided to tease even though he wasn't ready to reveal his true identity to his family yet. Dorcas spat to the ground as if she had just tasted the most forbidden fruit. “You, the new chairman?” She scorned. "That can never happen! Not in this lifetime!” She uttered. However, what she didn't know was that Henry, standing right in front of her, was the newly elected chairman of the Eminence Group. Overfamiliarity had made them think Henry could never be a prominent person. "Just shut up your mouth and stop saying nonsense!” Hunter snapped. “Your mates are becoming the real thing, and here you're making assumptions that would never come to pass. When are you even going to be profitable to this family?” “Will he ever?" Kate, Hunter's wife, asked disdainfully. Then, Dorcas sighed before saying, "Caleb's family will be coming over for dinner today; make sure all dishes are well prepared. And most importantly, make sure you behave in your best behavior today. Pu
Chapter 7: Maxwell Slaps his Sons
Chapter 7 He shot Caleb a fierce stare, eyes burning with rage as he slammed his hand on the table with barely contained anger. “What did you do? Whom did you offend?" Confused, Caleb asked. “What's that, Dad? I have no idea what you're talking about." Pa! A resounding slap spread across his face, snapping his face to the side. Outraged, Lord Maxwell had slapped Caleb, his son. Everyone in the room gaped. Their mouths opened in surprise and extreme shock, except for Henry, who knew what was happening; he simply smirked discreetly. Caleb clutched his burning cheek, staring at his father. Surprised, Mario approached and hurriedly asked. “Grandfather, what's the problem? Why did you slap Dad that way?" He could barely blink when Lord Maxwell slapped him hard as well. “Your father and you are both useless!" He snarled, face tightened with anger. "You both lied to me that Mrs. Dorothy was going to accept our proposal, but here? They didn't just reject our proposal, but t
Chapter 8: Dorcas Refuses
Chapter 8 Dorcas blurted out. “I don't give my car to anyone." Margaret was taken aback by Dorcas's remark. How could she be this inconsiderate? It was their family's company work she was trying to attend to, and yet Dorcas had refused to lend her car to her. Margaret bit her lips. Dorcas continued, the subject changing. "This is more reason you should divorce that son of a nobody! If you had gotten married to David Brown, getting a new car for yourself wouldn't have been a problem!” At this moment, Henry stepped into the room, and from Margaret's expression, he could tell something was wrong. Therefore, he approached her. “You're still here," Henry asked. “What's the matter?" “Her car got damaged, and she needs a new car!" Dorcas hurriedly replied. “Can you give it to her?" She said sarcastically. Henry blinked. "Then lend her yours. Besides, you've three cars, and it's the company she's going to.” “And I say, no! No one is permitted to share any of my cars with me!”
Chapter 9: Henry Meets the Doctor
Chapter 9 As Henry got to the hospital, walking through the hallway, heading to the room where his mother was, something caused him to suddenly halt in his tracks. His face contorted with a heavy frown as he watched the scene. It was an old man with his two daughters, grovelling and begging one of the hospital nurses as if she was their Savior. Tears were streaming down their cheeks uncontrollably. “Please, you've to save my wife! We may not have the money now, but we promise to pay later! Just attend to her and let her be fine!" The old man dressed in a shabby, baggy cloth was sobbing like a kid abandoned by his mother. “We don't want to lose our Mum!” His two daughters were also begging, their hands clasped together in front of them. "Please, attend to her; our Dad will pay if not now, later!" The nurse glanced down at them and answered helplessly. “I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do. I'm only acting on order. It's the doctor who has the final say." "Then take us
Chapter 10: Henry Pays
Chapter 10 As Henry vomited those words out of his mouth, the doctor stared at him with great amazement. For a brief moment, the steadiness of Henry's voice and the seriousness in his eyes almost made the doctor believe what Henry had just claimed. However, remembering who Henry truly was, the doctor suddenly burst into a mocking laugh. This is the penniless loser that he knew. Prior to the time when his mother's condition worsened and he was demanded to make a deposit, Henry had been begging the doctor to be considerate toward his mother before this unfamiliar human came and helped clear Henry's mother's payment. So, how could Henry possibly afford to pay the bills of all patients in his hospital? That was completely nonsensical! Still amused, “You…want to clear all patients’ bills in my hospital?” The doctor asked, narrowing his eyes at Henry. That must be the funniest joke he had ever heard since he was born. Suddenly, his expression changed, turning dark. The doctor
